'A big mistake': 'Lockwood & Co' fans left fuming after Netflix cancels supernatural show after one season

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Netflix is known for canceling shows that become fan favorites and they are in no mood to stop. In one of the most upsetting news coming from the entertainment industry, the streaming platform has canceled ‘Lockwood & Co’ after one season and no discussion is being done of the show being shopped.

Based on Jonathan Stroud’s young adult novels of the same name, the series primarily focused on a teenage ghost hunter named Lucy Carlyle (Ruby Stokes) who teams up with Anthony Lockwood (Cameron Chapman) and George Karim (Ali Hadji-Heshmati)to form a ghost-hunting agency that specializes in dealing with dangerous ghosts. The series turned out to be a huge hit and reached #2 in the list of Netflix's Top 10. But it seems the numbers were not big enough for Netflix to renew the show for a second season.

Complete Fiction thanked fans for 'embracing the series'

Complete Fiction, the banner that was responsible for developing the series, confirmed the news of the cancellation by releasing a statement on its official Twitter account. The statement noted that making a show like ‘Lockwood & Co’ was “one of the most rewarding experiences of their careers” and thanked Netflix, along with the cast and crew, for helping them bring the books to life. They also expressed gratitude toward fans for embracing the series.

“With heavy hearts, we announce that ‘Lockwood & Co.’ will not be returning for a second series. Making this show was one of the most rewarding experiences of our careers and we will forever treasure it. Being trusted by the supremely talented Jonathan Stroud to adapt his outstanding series of books was an honor and a privilege. Working with him as closely as we did across the development, production, and release of Lockwood & Co has made him a friend, and part of the Complete Fiction family, for life,” the statement read.

The fans, which were known as Lock Nation, did everything to get the show renewed but unfortunately failed to do so.

“To the fans – to Lock Nation – you really have been the greatest. We cannot thank you enough for how much you have embraced, celebrated, and loved the show. You are the kindest, most creative group of people online and it has been so gratifying to see how your passion for these characters and this world has brought you all together. This might be the end of the line for the TV show, but the books live on, as do the friendships made. We encourage you to embrace both,” the statement concluded.

Fans BLAST Netflix for 'canceling 'another potential series'

Fans were devastated by the news of the cancellation and slammed the streaming platform for canceling all their fan-favorite shows. One of the fans wrote, “THIS WAS A TERRIBLE DECISION I’M CANCELLING MY SUBSCRIPTION,” Another social media user tweeted, “And they have done it again! No wonder everyone is switching to other platforms. If they keep up this rate no one will want to pay for Netflix if there isn't anything good to watch.” Another user wrote, “This is a big mistake. It’s such a great show!” Another social media user tweeted, “That's really disappointing :/. it was really good just low viewership because Netflix did no advertising for it.”

“Hoping another streaming service might pick it up cause’ damn this is disappointing, but sadly not surprising,” said another user. “Always canceling shows with great potential. I hate Netflix,” wrote another fan.

The reviews were extremely positive and opened with a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. As of writing this piece, the series holds a rating of 92% on the aforementioned review site.

It would be interesting to see if any other network or streaming platform will shop for the show and carry the story forward.
