LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Fans of 'American Idol' are now pleading to oust Katy Perry as a judge after a weird video of the 'Smile' singer acting like a cat while donning a snug leather costume went viral on Saturday, June 17. Perry also faced a lot of criticism from the viewers during the latest installment of 'American Idol' for her remarks to contestants, her appearance, and her behavior.
Due to her controversial and potentially "rude" coaching techniques during Season 21 of the program, the 'Part of Me' singer has received a number of negative comments and rants on social media. Perry most recently came under fire for being "rude and condescending" to participants who had trouble with their duet during the show's Hollywood Week. Perry's alleged rude behavior and "mom-shaming" of Sara Beth Liebe, the 25-year-old contestant, forced her to quit the singing competition, as per New York Post.
'We have cat woman with us'
In the video, which was uploaded to the official 'American Idol' Instagram, Perry, 38, Luke Bryan, 46, and Lionel Richie, 73, are seated at the judge's table when 'All Night Long' singer remarked on Perry's attire and said, "We have cat woman with us." Perry appears in the video wearing a pair of what look to be six-inch sharp platform boots and a pair of shiny, black, high-waisted spandex leather pants along with a long-sleeve deep V-neck sheer bodysuit, as per Daily Mail.
Bryan laughed at Richie's joke and referred to his fellow judge as "Katy Purry." Accepting the comments of fellow judges, Perry leaped up on her chair and stretched out her left leg before settling back and crouching with her hands raised like paws, and she sang, "I’m ready to prowl for talent." The weird act didn't stop there as Perry concluded her cat performance by pawing at Bryan's shoulder. She further said in a purring voice, "That's me pawing," while Bryan was observed grinning uncomfortably.
'Can't stand her'
Many 'Idol' fans were left unimpressed by Perry's attitude, while several others criticized the video, demanding her removal as an 'Idol' judge. Some even thought that touching a co-judge on film was inappropriate. One wrote on Instagram, "Can't stand her they need to get rid of her & Luke," while a second wrote, "We should never have a Judge acting like she did touching men on show Quack O." "Lost her respect in Australia ?? wonder why Katy??" wrote a third unimpressed fan, while one dubbed the 'Dark Horse' singer "weirdo" and wrote, "Weirdo. And not as talented as she thinks she is. I’m surprised she lasted this long even breathing the same air as LR."
Several fans even took to Twitter to slam the singer for her cat performance on the 'American Idol' set. One such Twitter user wrote, "She was once hot and is now just cringe. The wall comes for all." Another wrote, "She is just getting weirder and weirder," to which one chimed in, stating, "Hopefully Katy Perry doesn’t end up like Madonna. Looking for attention in 25 years after 68 plastic surgeries and dating men a third her age. Sad." "She may have just watched too many Nicholas Cage movies," wrote one sharing a funny GIF.
Katy Perry's fair share of backslash
This incident is nothing new, as fans have criticized Perry before, especially during the current season of 'American Idol'. Rumors that Perry is thinking about quitting the show have also been circulating, so those who want her fired from the show may soon get their wish fulfilled. Following intense criticism all season and concerns, Perry retaliated, saying that she is being constantly "thrown under the bus by producers," who she says have purposely edited her to look like the "nasty judge." An insider told that this season has been extremely difficult for her, especially after she was implicated in an alleged mom-shaming episode that drove one contestant to leave the program.
Perry thinking of quitting 'American Idol'
According to an ABC insider, Perry might quit the show to spend more time with her daughter Daisy who is now two years old. As she has expressed her wish to expand her family, spend more time with Orlando, and pursue her musical career away from the competition, Perry has reportedly been "milling over" her future for months. The 'Dark Horse' singer previously expressed the desire for Daisy to have a "baby brother or sister," as per the source.
