Apple's Shazam just added the best feature ever for concertgoers

Apple's Shazam app just got a lot more useful for people who like to attend concerts.

In the new Concerts section in the app, you can now see upcoming concerts from the artists that you've Shazamed — meaning, used the app to find out which song is playing — as well as see the concerts you've saved in the app. You can choose to see upcoming gigs in all locations, or just near your current location.

While that's nice for heavy users of the app, I actually find another, related feature far more useful. Down in the Concerts section you'll see the "Find a Concert" button. Tap that, and you'll get a list of artists playing either near you, or at a location of your choosing. You can also set the time frame for the search to "all upcoming," or today, tomorrow, this weekend, or a custom date range.

While there are other ways to see which artists are playing near you soon (Facebook's Events and apps like Bandsintown come to mind), I find Shazam's simplicity pretty great. The app was also fairly comprehensive in showing upcoming gigs near my location.

Shazam is a free app in Apple's App Store, and while it's not necessary (the functionality is built into iOS, and you can access it by opening the Control Center on your iPhone and tapping the Shazam button), it's gotten a lot more desirable with this latest update. The music discovery app's biggest strength has always been finding out the name of that tune that's playing, but if Apple keeps adding features like this, it might become a decent companion to Apple Music.
