'Bad decision': Fans slam 'The Flash' director Andy Muschietti for not recasting Ezra Miller in potential sequel

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: There’s no doubt that ‘The Flash’ is one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year and will take DC in a new direction. Moviegoers were really excited about the movie, but things went downhill when Ezra Miller got tangled in a massive controversy that made everyone wonder if he was the right guy to lead the movie or not. Warner Bros decided to move ahead with Miller and noted that they are not going to re-cast the character. The movie is just around the corner and the first wave of reviews has been extremely positive. Now, everyone wants to know if Ezra Miller will continue to play the fastest man alive. Well, director Andy Muschietti believes so.

Amid allegations of violence and grooming, Miller has been facing calls to be re-examined in their lead role in the upcoming DC film. However, Muschietti seems to have reassured the fans that the aforementioned actor will not be recast if a sequel is ever made.

While speaking in an interview for ‘The Discourse’ podcast (via The Playlist), the filmmaker noted that no one can play the character The Flash or Barry Allen like Miller did. He also noted that the actor gave their 110% in bringing the character to life. On the other hand, he believed that this character was made for Miller.

“I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but with this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys — it feels like a character that was made for them,” Muschietti said.

Social media didn’t leave any stone unturned to criticize Muschietti for his comments and made him remember the kind of things that Miller did in his life. One of the fans wrote, “That’s a really bad decision given all he has done… But then again, that’s one thing DC has been able to make reliably… Mistakes.” Another social media user wrote, “I’ll watch this one because it was already filmed, but I will not watch any DC content after this if he’s there.” Another social media user wrote, “Literally anyone can do a better job than Miller, a random guy on a street would do a better job.” Another social media user tweeted, “Ezra is great as the Flash and all, but with all the allegations against him, it's best they replace him.”

One of the users took Jonathan Majors’ example and noted how “dirty” they did him in comparison to Miller. The user tweeted, “Reading this, I can’t unthink of how dirty they did Jonathan Majors in comparison.”

“Grant easily could take over and would be a million times better,” wrote another user.

So, it is clear that fans don’t want to see Miller in future DC projects, but it appears that their incredible performance in the movie has been recognized by the director and producer. If a sequel to ‘The Flash’ is greenlit and Muschietti returns to helm it, Miller will continue playing the titular character.

Apart from Miller, the upcoming movie also features Michael Keaton, Sasha Calle, Ben Affleck, Michael Shannon, Kiersey Clemons, Jeremy Irons, Maribel Verdu, Ron Livingston, Antje Traue, and Saoirse-Monica Jackson in pivotal roles.

‘The Flash’ is scheduled to hit theatres on June 16.
