LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The ongoing drama surrounding 'Jackass' star Bam Margera and his ex-wife Nicole Boyd has taken another contentious turn. Margera, 43, known for his tumultuous personal life, was recently placed on a psychiatric hold and subsequently sought treatment at one of Lamar Odom's rehab facilities.
Meanwhile, Boyd's lawyer, David Glass, has come forward to shed light on the situation, alleging that Margera has been sending Boyd, 39, a series of "abusive" texts since his release from the psychiatric hold.
Custody dispute and Phoenix's absence
The main point of contention between the exes revolves around the custody of their child, Phoenix. Boyd and their son were reportedly present during Margera's recent public intoxication arrest, and it appears that Phoenix has not been in his father's presence since then. Glass shared the disturbing nature of the texts Margera allegedly sent to Boyd in an interview with TMZ. According to him, Margera resorted to name-calling and blamed Boyd for all his problems. "Bam has started texting since his release from the 5150 hold, but the content quickly turned abusive, calling Nikki awful names, saying she is the cause of all his problems, even saying she’s a 'gold digger'," the lawyer said.
The legal battle between Margera and Boyd has been ongoing for some time, with Boyd seeking $15,000 per month in child support. These recent revelations about the text communication between the former couple could potentially sway the courts as they deliberate on the matter. Margera's legal team, however, has responded to these claims by asserting that Margera and Boyd were never legally married, despite their wedding ceremony in 2013.
Margera's lawyers emphasize financial support
Margera's attorney, Peter Thompson, spoke to TMZ, attributing his client's emotional response to the child support case. Thompson emphasized that Margera has continued to provide financial support for Boyd and Phoenix, despite the lack of contact between them. "Bam continues to support her and Phoenix even though she won’t even allow a phone call or FaceTime with Phoenix. He just wants to see his son and continues to come up against a brick wall on that. Contact would go a long way in getting this resolved," Thompson told the outlet.
The conflict between Margera and Boyd over child support and custody appears to be deep-rooted. Boyd has accused Margera of neglecting his responsibilities, while his lawyers argue that he is providing financial support. Boyd had said, "We love Bam, both as a husband and father," in a statement shared with People following Margera's rehab stint last year. "We pray that he will give it all he has this time at this new rehab facility," she said, adding, "So he can complete his treatment and come home to the family that loves him." Margera was previously married to childhood pal Missy Rothstein from 2007 to 2012.
