Amazon Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat

Made with Honeywell Home thermostat technology, the Amazon Smart Thermostat is Energy Star certified and compatible with the Alexa smart assistant. You can track and manage your energy use with the Alexa app as well as adjust temperatures remotely. We called it a dependable and affordable thermostat for your smart home in our review—one of the main drawbacks being that this device is not compatible with Google Assistant, HomeKit, or IFTTT.

GE Cync Smart Thermostat

The latest entry in GE Lighting's smart home lineup, the Cync Smart Thermostat is easy to install, supports Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice controls, and works with most heating and cooling systems.

The black-and-white controller measures 3.3 by 5.3 by 1 inches (HWD) and crams information like current room temperature, heating and cooling set points, operational status, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection status, various icons, and more onto its oval screen.

Though compatible with most residential (24V AC) two-stage heating and cooling systems, as well as auxiliary heat pumps, the thermostat does not interact with other GE Cync devices, nor does it support IFTTT applets or Apple's HomeKit platform. It does, however, pair with GE's iOS and Android app for viewing and adjusting temperatures, checking humidity readings, and setting a fan timer, among other functions.

Emerson Sensi Touch ST75 Smart Thermostat

Control the Sensi Touch ST75 smart thermostat with your phone, voice, or color touch-screen panel. Easy on the eyes and simple to install, it supports Apple's HomeKit and Samsung's SmartThings home automation platforms, as well as native Siri voice control.

Available in black (29% off), silver (12% off), or white (27% off), the 3.4-by-5.6-by-1-inch (HWD) ST75 features a thin clear bezel surrounding a 4.2-inch color touch-screen control panel. It's compatible with single and multi-stage oil, gas, and electric HVAC systems and those with central air and heat pumps.

Set up the thermostat to send push alerts when your home's temperature and humidity levels reach a certain threshold, and create custom seven-day heating and cooling schedules via the Sensi mobile app for Android and iOS.

Google Nest Learning Thermostat

The Nest Learning Thermostat, as its name suggests, learns your schedule and programs itself to save energy. The third-gen model—which boasts a slimmer design, larger LCD, Bluetooth support, and geofencing technology—earned PCMag's Editors' Choice stamp of approval for its sleek design and vast library of features, including the ability to interact with other Nest and third-party devices, as well as support for Alexa, Google Home, and IFTTT.

At 1.2 inches thick and 3.3 inches in diameter, the puck-shaped Nest sports a 2.1-inch, 480-by-480-pixel screen, surrounded by an outer ring used to launch and navigate the onboard menu. Hidden inside are 10 temperature sensors, as well as humidity, ambient light, and activity sensors. Whether you spend most days at the office or are planning summer vacation, the Nest Learning Thermostat can detect when you've left home and switch to energy conservation mode.
