LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Britney Spears has opened up about one of the most controversial moments of her life when she shaved her head off, creating a media frenzy.

The pop star was going through a painful divorce at the time from her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Also, a constant paparazzi target and gossip fixture the head-shaving incident seemed to support a narrative that she had become erratic.

Britney Spears shares actual reason for shaving her head in 2007

The 'Baby One More Time' singer reveals in the memoir, as reported by People, that it was her way of rebelling against the scrutiny and pressure she faced since she was a teenager.

“I’d been eyeballed so much growing up. I’d been looked up and down, had people telling me what they thought of my body, since I was a teenager,” she wrote.

“Shaving my head and acting out were my ways of pushing back," she added.

It was previously reported that the pop icon had been angry over Federline who reportedly wouldn't let her see their two children Sean and Jayden.

Conservatorship made her grow her hair back and get back into shape, but she wasn't happy

She revealed, “Under the conservatorship, I was made to understand that those days were now over,” she wrote.

“I had to grow my hair out and get back into shape. I had to go to bed early and take whatever medication they told me to take,” Britney added.

The conservatorship also took a toll on her passion for music.

“I would do little bits of creative stuff here and there, but my heart wasn’t in it anymore," she wrote, adding "As far as my passion for singing and dancing, it was almost a joke at that point."

“Thirteen years went by with me feeling like a shadow of myself," she continued.

Britney Spears says she 'didn’t deserve what my family did to me'

Spears felt angry and betrayed by her family for controlling her body and money for so long.

She said, “I think back now on my father and his associates having control over my body and my money for that long and it makes me feel sick.”

She compared herself to male artists who never faced such restrictions despite their problems.

“No one tried to take away their control over their bodies and money. I didn’t deserve what my family did to me,” said Britney.

When in 2021, Spears finally got rid of the conservatorship she decided to tell her story in her own words.

“It is finally time for me to raise my voice and speak out, and my fans deserve to hear it directly from me,” she wrote.

She added, “No more conspiracy, no more lies—just me owning my past, present and future.”
