Broncos fear the worst after terrifying Tim Patrick injury at camp

The Denver Broncos just took a brutal blow after wideout Tim Patrick got injured in training camp.

In a bad case of deja vu, Denver Broncos wide receiver Tim Patrick suffered a potentially-serious injury in training camp on Monday.

As first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter, Patrick was carted off the field due to a non-contact left leg injury. On Monday, he was doing a 7-on-7 drill in full pads, and as he started to run a route, his left leg buckled and he collapsed to the ground.

Patrick was helped onto a cart and immediately was escorted into the team's facility. The 29-year-old felt this same pain last offseason, when he tore his right ACL, also in a non-contact drill, in early August; he ended up missing the entire 2022 season.

The 29-year-old appeared extremely upset after the incident and even threw his helmet. In Patrick's absence, ex-Saints weapon Marquez Callaway could be the next man up.

Here's what Broncos head coach Sean Payton said about Patrick's injury:

At the time of this writing, the Broncos are awaiting the results of Patrick's MRI. Payton said he feared Patrick suffered an Achilles injury but would wait for the test results before speaking further.

Patrick was projected to be a starter in the Broncos' offense this season alongside Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton. Behind those three, Callaway, Lil'Jordan Humphrey, Brandon Johnson, and rookie Marvin Mims Jr. sit on the depth chart.

In 2020 and 2021, Patrick accumulated nearly 1,500 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns and developed into a fast-rising threat on the offense. He signed a three-year extension in 2021 but has yet to play a snap after that deal due to last year's ACL tear. Unfortunately, this year's potential Achilles injury could put him back on the shelf.

Wishing Patrick a speedy recovery, and hopefully his injury doesn't turn out to be too serious.
