AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS: Bruce Springsteen took a massive tumble on his way to the stage during his Amsterdam concert. The celebrated singer-songwriter fell while climbing the steps on Saturday, May 27, as fans gasped. The ‘I’m On Fire' singer rolled onto his back and lay on the floor with his guitar still in hand just when his team rushed in to get him back to his feet.
His guitarist was the first to react and removed his instrument, whereas two concerned workers pulled Bruce back. Fortunately, Bruce Springsteen remained unaffected by the fall, sporting a quick smile before addressing his fans. The 73-year-old singer is presently on a world tour, got the microphone, and shouted, 'Good night everybody!' The ‘Dancing in the Dark’ singer hopped onto the next song. Springsteen is touring the world along with E Street Band as part of the 2023 Tour, which includes 37 shows in 32 locations. The next venues on the list include Landgraaf, Netherlands, Zurich, Switzerland, and Birmingham, UK.
'Springsteen went ahead despite Italy hit by disaster'
Bruce was recently in Italy where he courted criticism last month for pressing on with his concert despite the region of Emilia-Romagna being severely hit by disaster. The local news outlet reported that rescue crews tried hard to reach towns and villages in northern Italy remaining isolated due to heavy rains and flooding. The authorities began planning clean-up and reconstruction plans to minimize the damage caused, as per the Daily Mail.
Ferrara mayor Alan Fabbri wrote on Facebook: “I am sorry if anyone may have thought that Ferrara was insensitive to the tragedy in Romagna just because it did not cancel the concert by 'The Boss.'”
'Singing and dancing thoughtlessly in the same area'
Springsteen also didn’t cancel the concert as it went on as per schedule on May 18 in the town of Ferrera, just 30 miles from the epicenter of ground zero. As per organizers, 50,000 fans were expected to be there, but due to major flooding, not many could reach the venue.
One local councilor criticized the decision of the artist and said it was an insult to the 'pain, desperation and difficulty' of those affected, whereas Italian TV presenter Tiziana Ferrario wrote on social media, “I love Bruce Springsteen but given the victims and the towns submerged by mud, the Ferrara concert seems out of tune. Once [upon a time] you would go and shovel and help who was buried in mud rather than singing and dancing thoughtlessly in the same area.''
