Charles Schwab Challenge power rankings based on odds

The second men's major tournament on the calendar is officially in the books with Brooks Koepka capturing his third PGA Championship.

Now, the PGA Tour is set to begin a stretch of entertaining tournaments between now and the U.S. Open. The first one will be the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial.

In this article, I'm going to power rank the top 10 golfers at the event, based on a combination of the betting odds and my person opinion.

Let's dive into it.

Charles Schwab Challenge power rankings

1) Scottie Scheffler +400

There's absolutely no question that Scottie Scheffler deserves to top all odds boards and power rankings. He fought back to a third place finish at the PGA Championship and he has always thrived at events in Texas. He also lost in a playoff to Sam Burns at this tournament last year.

2) Viktor Hovland +1600

Viktor Hovland put on a ball striking clinic at the PGA Championship, gaining +2.66 strokes on the field with his approach game. As a result, he finished solo second at the event. If he can carry that strong play into this week, he has a great chance to win.

3) Jordan Spieth +1400

Jordan Spieth has always thrived at the Charles Schwab Challenge. He has finished in the top 10 in eight of the last 10 years, including winning the event in 2016. He had a solid PGA Championship and seems to be past his injury and now he's a candidate to win, returning to a course he's very comfortable at.

4) Collin Morikawa +1800

Collin Morikawa finished in second place at this event in 2020 when it was the first tournament back after a long break in action due to COVID. His putting has finally begun to turn a corner at the PGA Championship and if he can keep trending in the right direction with his flat stick, it won't be much longer before he gets his next win.

5) Tony Finau +1400

Tony Finau loves winning weaker field events and that's exactly what the Charles Schwab Challenge is. He has two top five finishes here over the last four seasons, so he'll be ready with his "A" game this week.

6) Justin Rose +2800

Justin Rose won this event in 2018 and he has had a bit of a career resurgence this season, winning the Pebble Beach Pro-Am and finishing 9th at the PGA Championship last week. He's a solid bet this week at 28/1.

7) Tommy Fleetwood +2800

Tommy Fleetwood is cursed to never win a PGA Tour event, but his style of play seems to fit Colonial well and he has been in decent form in recent weeks. He may not be as good as the top dogs this week, but with a relatively weak field, it could be time for him to compete on a weekend.

8) Sam Burns +2800

The only reason Sam Burns is on this list is because he won this event last year. Outside of that, he has been in terrible form lately, including missing two straight cuts. We'll see if he can find his swing this week.

9) Max Homa +2200

Max Homa is another golfer who has been in bad form lately, but we've seen him thrive at times and he has finished in the top 30 in two of the three times he has competed at this event.

10) Sungjae Im +2000

Sungjae Im is due to be in contention on a Sunday and finished in the top 15 at this event in two of the last four years. He may have suffered from jet lag at the PGA Championship after winning an event in South Korea the week before. We'll see if he recovered well enough to compete this week.

Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
