Chiefs Rumors: Chris Jones' agent makes a pit stop in the BBQ capital
Finally, some positive news regarding Chris Jones and a potential extension in Kansas City. It's nothing super substantial, but Chiefs fans will take it.
This past weekend, Chris Jones' agent, Michael Katz, shared a picture of his food from Joe's Kansas City Bar-B-Que, suggesting that he was in KC. For work or for leisure? No one really knows.
The fact that Katz was in Kansas City and not, say, Chicago or Detroit, could dispel some of the uncertainty shrouding Jones' future with the only home he's ever known.
At the same time, social media is a modern menace. It usually never tells the full story. Earlier this offseason, Dalvin Cook was reportedly working out in Miami, and he ended up signing with the Jets.
Besides, Jones, who may be looking for a contract that pays him $30 million annually, has been sending cryptic messages on social media all summer. In one recent post, he insinuates that he's prepared to take a financial hit and hold out until Week 8 of the regular season.
All this is happening just a few weeks before the Chiefs' season opener against the Lions. As of Sunday, Jones has already accrued nearly $2 million in fines and may continue keeping his distance -- it's the only leverage he really has, anyway.
Chiefs Rumors: Carson Wentz saddling up to be Mahomes' backup in near future
No, not this again. Please end this torture.
Former Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has slipped back into Chiefs kingdom like a slithering snake as he continues to weigh his free agent options. Spoiler: he doesn't have many.
After disastrous seasons with the Colts and Commanders, Wentz has gone to desperate measures to increase his appeal to QB-needy teams. An Instagram post of his cringe-y fashion choices didn't really do the trick, so he's apparently gone a more direct route.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Wentz and the Chiefs did talk this past offseason, and there was "some dialogue about Wentz potentially joining the Chiefs down the road." The two sides appear receptive to "keeping that communication open."
So as the QB2 battle between Shane Buechele and Blaine Gabbert rages on, Wentz remains lurking in the shadows waiting for his zillionth opportunity to live up to his first-round potential. How should Chiefs fans feel about this? Uneasy, at the very least.
Potentially handing the reins to a quarterback who left black marks on his last two franchises and has a history of cruel disappointments does not inspire any confidence. If Gabbert feels like the safest option to backup Patrick Mahomes, Wentz is the wild card who could throw the Chiefs' season into dark chaos or (and there's always a glimmer of hope with him) keep the team competitive in an emergency.
Personally, we'd go with the clean slate Gabbert. But it's the Chiefs' season to gamble away.
Chiefs Rumors: A realistic 2023 projection for Skyy Moore
Rookie Rashee Rice has received more hype than Skyy Moore this offseason, but that's only because he's the new Chiefs wideout on the block. Moore isn't going away anytime soon.
The 2022 second-rounder put together an unassuming rookie season with 22 catches for 250 yards, nabbing his first career touchdown in the biggest game of his life in the Chiefs' Super Bowl win over the Eagles.
Could that touchdown be a sign of better things to come in 2023?
Arrowhead Addict's Josh Fann gave his realistic projection of Moore's second year in the league in which Moore would at least double his receiving total from his first year. That adds up to roughly 600-plus receiving yards.
It's a fair bar to set considering the thin state of the Chiefs' receiving corps this year, and many in Chiefs camp have already started to sing the praises of the young and speedy wideout. Compared to his Kansas City peers, Moore didn't develop into a key piece of the offense last season; he finished fourth in snaps among wide receivers, leapfrogged by both late signing Kadarius Toney and Justin Watson.
As Fann predicts, Moore's Year 2 should see him achieve more success as a consistent contributor with one year of experience under his belt. Let's just not get carried away with any outrageous predictions.
