Kansas City Chiefs Rumors: Hollywood Brown is a trade target
The Chiefs receiving corps could use some help. As young as they are, Patrick Mahomes continues to have faith that the likes of Skyy Moore and Justyn Ross are the long-term answer at the position -- and perhaps they are. Kansas City is off to a hot start defending their Super Bowl victory, after all. Yet, something seems to be lacking from this group that perhaps they could find on the trade market.
Enter Hollywood Brown. Brown is a speedster who flamed our with the Baltimore Ravens and has since been left without a consistent quarterback in Arizona. The Cardinals don't know when they'll get Kyler Murray back, and in the meantime are playing above their weight with Josh Dobbs behind center. This team is destined for a rebuild. Brown, meanwhile, could fetch a nice return -- Arrowhead Addict suggests a second and fifth-round pick as reasonable compensation for Brown.
Grant Tuttle explains why Brown would be a good fit: "For the Chiefs, this makes sense for a whole host of reasons. The biggest is that no one, outside of Travis Kelce, appears to be able to create separation. Kadarius Toney was touted as the future number-one receiver all offseason. It appears as though things are not working out as expected and they need to try to nab a true number one."
Giving up on another season may not be what Cardinals fans want to hear, but considering Murray's contract and injury status, winning the No. 1 selection is a good idea, regardless of whether Jonathan Gannon and Arizona decide to pick Caleb Williams or not. Trading Brown could help ensure that happens.
Kansas City Chiefs Rumors: Justin Watson dealing with an injury
Justin Watson received some playing time last week in Denver, and showed some flashes. Watson was able to get some separation on the Broncos secondary. Yet, as soon as that flash started, it ended in pain, quite literally. Watson left the game on this play, and dislocated his elbow.
As Andy Reid said after the game, the initial prognosis did not look great. Arrowhead Pride described the play in which Watson was injured:
"Early in the fourth quarter, Watson streaked down the right sideline with Denver defender Damarri Mathis in pursuit. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes connected with Watson in stride, but Watson could not bring the football in. Mathis dove for Watson shortly after the pass bounced off his hands, bringing him down to the ground on his left elbow. Watson briefly stayed on the ground, writhing in pain."
"[He] hurt his elbow," said Reid. "We'll just see how he does here. It's not broken, so that's a positive thing."
While Reid and the Chiefs knew Watson didn't break his elbow, he did dislocate it, which could mean he'll miss a few weeks. An already-thin Kansas City receiving corps is down another man. Watson is eighth on the Chiefs in catches with 10 and third in receiving yards with 219.
Do the Chiefs have competition for Frank Clark?
While the Kansas City Chiefs have been tabbed as the likely favorite for Frank Clark, who was released over the weekend. Clark spent the majority of his prime in Kansas City, but signed with Denver this offseason in a decision that didn't pan out for either side. Clark received very little playing time for Sean Payton's group.
Prior to his release, I pitched a trade for Clark to Kansas City, which included the Chiefs dealing a late-round selection or pick swap to their rivals. Clearly, that was never in the cards, which is why Clark was released instead.
CBS Sports Cody Bejamin theorized several potential new homes for Clark, with the Chiefs being at the top of his list. However, KC is not alone. The Falcons, Rams, Ravens and Seahawks all could use the pass rushing help. While they do not have the history the Chiefs do with Clark, a fresh start could be beneficial for Clark.
What the Chiefs do have in their favor is a recruiter in the form of Chris Jones, who already mentioned on social media that he would discuss Clark's return with general manager Brett Veach. It's unclear how that conversation went, but it's obvious KC is at least considering a reunion.
