PASADENA, CALIFORNIA: Sainted, a 26-person southern trap choir, sought to "shine" with a Coachella-worthy performance, according to multiple Judges. However, viewers of 'America's Got Talent' have resorted to social media to complain about not understanding what they sang.
'AGT' audiences and judges alike were "blessed" with one Act's performance, and we can't wait to see where it goes. Season 18 of 'AGT' continues to offer us great Acts from across the world, including Sainted, a 26-person choir. Members of the Charlotte, North Carolina-based trap choir formed in 2020 describe themselves as a "trap choir" because they include gospel, worship, and trap music. When 'AGT' Judge and executive producer Simon Cowell questioned who thought it was a good idea to bring their performance to the 'AGT' stage, the group answered it was "God's idea." Before approaching the stage, Sainted pondered on the fact that 'AGT' had "millions and millions of viewers," as one performer informed AGT producers. The gang dressed in identical and loose-fitting dark grey clothing, with several wearing sunglasses for a relaxed and comfortable appearance.
'You should be on the big stage at Coachella'
The group started with an original song that was accompanied by clapping, steps, and other interesting dancing movements. The piece finally included the 1993 dance hit 'You've Got to Show Me Love' by Robin S. and Sandeville, which kept the Judges singing long after the group had left the stage. Sainted's composition included a show-stopping vocal arrangement by one of the vocalists midway through the performance, who called out to the crowd, "It's time to party, AGT!"
The group completed the song in the same way it began, with hands in the prayer position and one vocalist flaunting a portable fan with the words "Shook."
Howie Mandel, a long-time 'AGT' judge, commented that the fan "said it all." "It’s young, it’s exciting, it’s not what you think choir is," Howie remarked of the Act. "You should be on the big stage at Coachella; I would see every concert you guys play at."
Judge Heidi Klum concurred with Howie and seemed to enjoy every bit of the performance. "I love your vibe, I love how every single one of you look, the outfits," Heidi remarked. "The choreography, it’s fantastic! Love all of you. Love!”
"It was one of my favorites," Judge Sofia Vergara added, listing her favorite aspects of Sainted. "It was creative, the dancing was great, it was fun, the voices are amazing. I mean, you guys have done a really good job."
Judge Simon concurred, stating he "loved everything" about the performer. "I have to thank you, I have to thank God because he brought you here, so thank you, and I mean that," Simon remarked. "You’re so cool, so current, then we get that amazing vocal halfway through."
Simon was confident in his fellow Judges' votes, and all four Judges voted "Yes," including Heidi, who offered an enthusiastic "big fat yes." Simon, who was the last to vote, said, "I'm gonna say that's about 4,000 yesses."
'Not an act I would go to see'
On 'AGT's official Insta page, a fan asked, "Am I the only one that didn’t really like this act?" Another person added, "Didn’t like this one. Song was way too slow and dint bring much energy." One person chimed in, "I actually hated it...last weeks African choir was way better."
On Twitter, fans noted, "All the clapping got in the way of the music. I couldn’t hear it clearly." A second user tweeted, "They weren't the best. Very boring." Another person chimed in, "Sorry was bored." A fourth person tweeted, "Not an act I would go to see."
One tweet also read, "Ugh. First 2 acts NOPE. Kids not ready and choir can’t understand them." Another agreed, "They were talented. Had good beat but couldn’t understand anything they sang." One person also shared their issue with the performance, "I will say Sainted start off a little bad because I could not understand what they were saying(without the captions) but they got a little better at the end. Have to wait and see on these guys if they get to the live rounds."
