LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Today’ host Craig Melvin’s bad behavior in the studio has once again been called out by co-host Sheinelle Jones. The incident transpired during the latest episode of the ‘Today’ show when the hosts in the studio were talking about car safety. Al Roker was present as well and looked surprised at Melvin's insensitive and mocking comment.
Melvin, without a second thought, asked Jones if she could change a spare tire when the latter was talking about a time when she had an issue on a road trip during the show’s segment about summer car safety. This abrupt and condescending question came only a few days after Melvin laughed at Jones on air when co-host Peter Alexander asked her about her surfing skills.
What did Craig Melvin say to Sheinelle Jones?
Vicky Ngyugen, an investigative journalist was on the ‘Today’ show to talk about useful items to keep in the car in the event of emergencies. During the summer car safety segment, Ngyuyen mentioned that a lot of new car owners do not keep a spare tire in their cars. This prompted Jones to share one of her experiences. She said, “We were on our way upstate, and I hit a pothole, it was not my fault.” Roker who was listening intently intervened with a joke. He said, "The pothole just jumped out at you."
Jones grinned as she said she opened the trunk of the car and there was no spare at the time. Melvin then asked, "Had there been a spare, would you have been able to change it?” Jones snapped back with "No, but I could have called somebody!” Vicky then finished Sheinelle’s thoughts and stated, “Yeah, it would have been a step in the right direction.” It was clear from Sheinelle’s reaction that Craig’s distasteful comment irked her and she didn’t seem to like the unnecessary assumption directed toward her.
Craig Melvin has been called out before
The Jones incident wasn’t the first time that Melvin was called out for his absurd remarks. Recently, Roker called out Melvin for walking out in the middle of a segment, leaving him stranded. A segment called 'Cool during summer workouts' saw fitness instructor Stephanie Mansour imparting wisdom to the three hosts in the studio.
After introducing the guest, Melvin walked away from the set, prompting Roker to call him out for his rude behavior. “Is it a good thing, too, if you’re not feeling great, to just kind of wander off, the way Craig did?” Roker asked Mansour. Melvin stumbled with his words and replied, "I– I– I made my contribution to the segment. I thought I–." Roker wiped the floor with him as he said, “What happened to the team?” Melvin returned to the set shaking his head and whispered near Roker, “You’re such a jacka**."
