Disney's 'The Little Mermaid' remake seemingly takes a dig at Kate Middleton

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Disney's childhood favorite animated movie 'The Little Mermaid' just got a live-action remake and while fans are quite thrilled about it, there are many layers to this movie than seen from the surface. Well, it seems like Disney has gotten out all that it had for the British Royal Family and have laid some easter eggs in its new remake. A critic who caught the early screening of 'The Little Mermaid' has found some debatable topics just lying around throughout the movie. According to the reviewer, the movie had some elements that talked about Meghan Markle leaving the royal family and also took a deep dig at Kate Middleton.

The critic shared that the movie gives out subtle hints about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's relationship and compares it to the two lead characters, Ariel (who is a person of color in the new version) and Prince Eric (who is well, white). But, out of all those subtle cues, one scene, in particular, seemed to confirm that the plot was indeed trying to involve people from the actual Royal Family.

'OK, definitely not Catherine'

As you might know, Ariel gives up her voice to go up to the surface to find her prince charming, but when she reaches, she can't speak so Prince Eric tries to guess her name. The first guess comes out as Diana and when Ariel denies it, the second comes up as Catherine. After this, Ariel gives him a disgusted look and Prince Eric says, "OK, definitely not Catherine." While all of these subtle cues don't support Disney's internal logic that has been adapted for the movie, and if that is the case, then it is quite obvious that the person who wrote the scene is clearly taking a dig at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's sister-in-law Catherine, the Princess of Wales, aka, Kate Middleton.

Meghan Markle revealed that she identifies with the Mermaid

In the infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan Markle revealed that she identified with the Mermaid and kind of understood where she was coming from. If it isn't that obvious then here's some proof. During the release of 'Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special' show, Meghan revealed that she watched the 1989 animation film during her time living with the Royal Family and revealed, "I went, 'Oh my God, she falls in love with the prince and because of that she loses her voice," Meghan Markle shared.

'The Little Mermaid' movie is all set to release on May 26.
