STATESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA: Elizabeth Bailey, a North Carolina teacher accused of having sex with a student, allegedly broke the terms of her bail by consuming alcohol in her car with two young people. On Saturday, May 13, Bailey, 37, was involved in a car accident on Statesville's Mocksville Highway, and she was taken in by police.
Iredell County Sheriff's Office stated that two children who were with the fired high school teacher at the time of the collision fled before police arrived, according to DailyMail. Bailey, who was in the passenger seat up front, acknowledged that she had been drinking. She had even given one of the minors permission to operate the vehicle without a license, according to Fox. The two young people who fled the scene were later found by police. One of them was taken into custody as a result of an unfulfilled juvenile secure custody order. The science teacher Bailey received citations from the highway patrol for a misdemeanor charge of aiding an unlicensed driver to drive a car as well as another misdemeanor charge of contributing to a minor's delinquency. She was detained on a charge of violating her pretrial release.

The court ordered Bailey to avoid approaching the student with whom she is allegedly having a relationship as part of her pre-trial release deal. Even though Bailey broke the terms of her bail because of her involvement with the student who is under 16, she was released without having to post another bond.
The sheriff's office said in a statement, "Our agency was made aware that District Court Judge Christine Underwood amended the bond to strike the $750,000 bond issued by the magistrate. Bailey is to remain under a posted bond from October 2022. This investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may follow," according to DailyMail.
What are the charges against Elizabeth Bailey?
Bailey was charged with a total of 24 counts, including felony intimidating or tampering with a state witness and criminal statutory rape of a child 15 or younger, according to DailyMail. She worked at Northview Academy in Statesville until she was suspended in October 2022, at which point she left her position. A $750,000 bond was initially set for Bailey, but it was eventually lowered to $50,000.
