Following massive community backlash, Epic Games promised to remove most of the cosmetic age restrictions in Fortnite Chapter 5.
A few days ago, Epic Games introduced age restrictions on certain skins, banning iconic options like Black Widow and Lara Croft in Creative islands rated lower than T. In an attempt to keep skins with violent undertones away from lobbies including young children, Epic Games prevented players of all ages from wearing their purchased skins.
The decision prompted cries for refunds and a reversal of the policy. Fortunately, Epic Games came up with a solution.
Epic Games Removes Cosmetic Age Restrictions For Chapter 5
The public outcry to Fortnite cosmetic age restrictions prompted a swift response from Epic Games. Instead of doubling down on their new policy, they assured fans the changes will almost entirely be removed in Fortnite Chapter 5.
Epic Games stated, "Until we have our long-term solution, cosmetic gating will be off for the majority of cosmetics, starting with the v28.00 update." They added, "We've been deep in the comments over the past few days and we’ll keep working on getting this right."
In Chapter 5, "less than 10" skins will remain restricted to Creative islands rated T for their "obvious fear or violence elements." Epic Games did not reveal the specific skins yet.
When Does Fortnite Chapter 5 Start?
Fortnite Chapter 5 starts on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023, at 9 a.m. ET. After The Big Bang live event concludes, fans only have to wait one day to see everything Epic Games has in store for the next Fortnite Chapter, including new LEGO, Rocket Racing, and Rhythm modes.
Downtime for the major update begins at 11:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023. Matchmaking will be disabled and players will not have access to Fortnite until Chapter 5 officially goes live.
Are There Skin Restrictions for The Big Bang Live Event?
No, there are no skin restrictions for The Big Bang live event. Epic Games assured fans they can "use any cosmetic at our next big in-game event."
No matter what your age is, you will be able to wear the skin of your choice during the epic Chapter 4 finale event on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, at 2 p.m. ET.
