LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: At Netflix’s Tudum Event 2023, the popular drama series ‘Bridgerton’ officially revealed the first look of the most anticipated Season 3. Following that, the promotional photos were also released on the official social media handles.
What followed was an ever-growing fan war over the main characters of Season 3. The drama series' popularity has given way to a huge fanbase of viewers who have once again clashed in their opinions. While many showered the first look with love, others came forward with the issues they have with the protagonists of Season 3, Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton.

The evidence of ‘Bridgerton’s immense popularity can be seen in these first-look photos. Penelope Featherington is rid of her signature yellow dress, a fact also pointed out by the actress Nicola Coughlan at the Tudum Event, “Is Penelope finally done with yellow dresses?” On the other hand, Colin Bridgerton is shown sporting sideburns in another dashing look.
What is 'Bridgeton' Season 3 about?
Season 3 will be focused on Penelope and Colin who have had a rocky relationship so far and will, according to many ‘Polin’ fans, finally get their own love story. The Instagram post of the same reached over one million likes in around 19 hours, the most numbers achieved by the account.
While the news of Season 3’s larger plot has been out for quite some time, many fans were still divided after the first look was revealed. Fans who had waited for Penelope and Colin’s relationship to develop more are elated with the news while others have expressed their disappointment in the new season already.
'Cannot wait for them to ruin another book'
One fan appreciated the all-new look of Penelope in a tweet saying, “Nicola Coughlan in these stills is exactly how I pictured Penelope in her late 20s during Romancing Mister Bridgerton. There’s still so much I’m unsure about regarding Season 3, but she’s going to kill it, and that’s the one thing that matters.” Several viewers have issues with both Penelope and Colin for their character flaws and the things they have done in the previous seasons. One fan tweeted saying, “Low key hoping that she ends up with someone else because Colin is such a dud idk how they thought he could come after king George.” Another fan was disappointed over the transmission from the ‘Queen Charlotte’ to the upcoming season saying, “So we’re supposed to go from Charlotte and George’s incredible love story to *checks notes* Colin and Penelope????”
The relationships, or ‘ships’ according to fandom slang, from ‘Bridgerton’ has always caused fans to clash with each other. The trend continued and many fans said they were not interested in ‘Polin’. A fan called such fans out saying, “Everyone’s saying how they’re not daphne and simon, kanthony and now george and charlotte. OBVIOUSLY they’re not them. you forget they’re part of the bridgerton universe too, THEIR OWN BOOK THEIR OWN STORY.” One fan also said, “I don’t like Penelope because she is an evil person. It has nothing to do with her body type. i’d look like a big old hypocrite fat-shaming someone when I’m bigger than the actor.” Given that the series is adapted from a book series, a reader of the books shared, “Cannot wait for them to ruin another book i liked. (i know) this is the story everyone was "waiting" for, but just skipping over benedict's one feels weird. are they just gonna include his one in this? gonna be messy then because obv eloise is fan fav and gonna get a lot screentime.”
