FIBA World Cup 2023: Team USA Roster, group schedule, dates and more

The 2023 FIBA World Cup is right around the corner. Here's everything you need to know about Team USA including their roster, group, schedule and more.

The United States comes into the 2023 FIBA World Cup after one of their worst performances ever in the tournament in 2019, where they lost to France in the quarterfinals.

While the United States is not bringing their A team to the FIBA World Cup, they still are not short of talent. 2023 Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero and recent first-time All-Stars Tyrese Haliburton and Anthony Edwards lead the team.

FIBA World Cup: Team USA roster

They are joined by the following: Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson of the Brooklyn Nets, Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart of the New York Knicks, Brandon Ingram of the New Orleans Pelicans, Jaren Jackson Jr. of the Memphis Grizzlies, Walker Kessler of the Utah Jazz, Bobby Portis of the Milwaukee Bucks, and Austin Reaves of the Los Angeles Lakers.

They are now coached by Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, who will be leading the team in the FIBA World Cup for the first time. Kerr's staff will include Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue, Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, and legendary Gonzaga men's basketball head coach Mark Few.

The United States remains the betting favorite at -105, and that is likely because many other international NBA stars have decided to pass on this summer's tournament such as two-time MVP and reigning NBA champion Nikola Jokic. Canada will have Jamal Murray and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Slovenia will have Luka Doncic.

FIBA World Cup: Team USA schedule

The United States will start the tournament in Group C with Jordan, New Zealand, and Greece.

They will play their first game against New Zealand on Aug. 26, faceoff against Greece on Aug. 28, and close the group stage against Jordan on Aug. 30.

With the tournament taking place in Asia, the time zone adjustment is not the friendliest to American viewers, but thankfully their first two games will have later start times at 8:40 a.m. ET.

Should the United States win their group as expected, or at the very least come in second, they will advance into Group I which will consist of the top two teams from Group C and Group D. That will most likely be the United States, Greece, Lithuania, and Montenegro.

These games would be played on Sept. 1 and Sept. 3. Should they finish as one of the top two teams from that group, they would advance to the quarter-finals on Sept. 5. and Sept. 6, the semi-finals are on Sept. 8, and the final is on Sept. 10.
