Georgia football: No White House visit for the Bulldogs

The Georgia Bulldogs are not going to visit the White House and president Joe Biden, despite an invite extended by his staff. Per the program, there was a scheduling conflict. They released a statement confirming no ill will towards the current president:

"The University of Georgia first received on May 3 an invitation for the Bulldog football team to visit the White House on June 12. Unfortunately, the date suggested is not feasible given the student-athlete calendar and time of year," the Georgia athletics department said in a statement to the Athens Banner-Herald, part of the USA TODAY Network. "However, we are appreciative of the invitation and look forward to other opportunities for Georgia teams moving forward."

It's an odd series of events for the Bulldogs, as they didn't visit the White House after their 2022 College Football Playoff run, either, due to COVID-19 restrictions.

It's a tradition for champions across all major sports to visit the White House, but UGA has missed its opportunity for two straight years.

Georgia football: Dominick Blaylock transfers in-state

Former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Dominick Blaylock has transferred to Georgia Tech, opting to remain close to home. Blaylock was a former top target of the Bulldogs and Kirby Smart, and had plenty of potential after a decent freshman season.

However, Blaylock had rotten injury luck, tearing his ACL on two occasions. He was surpassed by George Pickens on the depth chart and never really recovered. Add in the COVID-19 pandemic, when all of college sports was uprooted, and this is the first real opportunity Blaylock has to made an impact on the collegiate level. Perhaps, with a decent season at Tech, he could even continue his career at the professional level.

Blaylock deserves this opportunity, which is why most UGA fans have wished him well despite leaving for an in-state rival. Tech isn't much of a threat to the Dawgs, being in a different conference altogether.

"Dom never complains," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said of Blaylock last spring. "He works and handles the cards he's been dealt very well, and he's had some really tough resiliency. He has overcome it. I'm really proud of Dom."

There will always be a place for Blaylock in Athens. Unfortunately, sometimes the match just doesn't work out. In this case it had little to do with Blaylock's mentality or on-field performance.

Georgia football: De'Nylon Morrissette arrested this week

UGA football player De'Nylon Morrissette was arrested Monday on misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of drugs, driving too fast for conditions, following too closely, and Class D restrictions, per reports.

Morrissette is a former four-star prospect from Stone Mountain, Georgia, who played in 11 games last season. He didn't make much of an impact on offense, as he recorded just 34 yards receiving. However, entering his sophomore season, he was expected to see an increase in targets on a crowded UGA depth chart at wide receiver.

Morrissette suffered a hamstring and knee injury, per Kirby Smart, towards the end of the Bulldogs National Championship run. This explains his very limited offensive output, though he did make a number of plays on special teams. Morrissette made three catches in Georgia's spring game, which suggested an increased role on offense. Given the Bulldogs impressive defense, Morrissette caught the eyes of Smart and the coaching staff.
