‘GMA’ anchor Sam Champion to take over Tamron Hall’s morning television slot with new hosting gig

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: ‘Good Morning America’ weatherman Sam Champion is taking a new gig as the new co-anchor of 'Eyewitness News Mornings @ 10' desk at ABC this fall.

The 62-year-old has been serving as the weekday morning and noon weather anchor at WABC-TV since 2019 and worked with the network for years prior to this as a weatherman. He is now being rewarded with a new anchoring gig owing to his past success with the network.

This makes Champion a co-host of another morning show on the network. However, the weatherman’s new job now means that the Tamron Hall show, which aired at 10 am, will have to move.

The new series 'Eyewitness News Mornings @ 10' is bound to push talk show host Tamron Hall’s eponymous show to 2 pm.

Sam Champion’s new gig at ABC News ends Tamron Hall’s morning television hopes

After ABC announced that Champion would be the new co-host of 'Eyewitness News' starting this September, there was much speculation about what would happen to the Tamron Hall show.

It’s now clear that 'Eyewitness News Morning @ 10', which is launching in September, will be taking over the slot that was originally held by Champion’s competitor, Hall.

Champion will join Mike Marza, Shirleen Allicot, and Dani Beckstrom on the new series. Mike, Shirleen, and Dani already have spots on the current 'Eyewitness News' program that airs each morning.

However, it's not all gloom for Hall. Network executives reported that the time change for the 'Tamron Hall Show' came only after it had a "record-breaking season four ratings.”

Tamron has had an exceptional year, and I know this move will grow her incredibly passionate Tam Fam even more," ABC Owned Television Stations President Chad Matthews explained.

He added, “And the addition of local news programming at 10 am — led by these extraordinary teams — will allow us to dig even deeper into the topics and events that showcase our local communities and the issues most impacting them.”

Matthew also said, that 'Eyewitness News Mornings @ 10' will “expand upon breaking news and topics being discussed on 'Good Morning America' and 'Live with Kelly and Mark.’”

Sam Champion and husband Rubem Robierb’s extended holiday

The ‘ABC’ weatherman has been on an extended vacation with his husband Rubem Robierb in South America, visiting Brazil and Salvador.

During this vacation, Champion also celebrated his 62nd birthday where he was surprised by Robierb with a cake in bed.

The TV personality also posted a snap of him at dinner as vivid greenery appeared in the background when he blew the candle on his cake. He captioned the post, “When I say, my husband knows how to plan a special birthday….He is the freeking best at it #bestbirthday.”
