Jack Grealish doesn't remember when Man Utd won the treble
Jack Grealish is well aware that Manchester City achieved something special this year by winning the treble, but he’s not aware of exactly when Manchester United managed the same thing back in the 90s. The England midfielder has been enjoying himself since City won the Champions League earlier this month – with his drinking inspiring a new chant – and he’s faced some criticism for the levels of celebration he’s been involved in. When asked about the criticism he received after drinking during the victory lap through Manchester on an open-top bus parade, he brought up the United treble from 1999. Only, he couldn’t remember the year it happened – instead saying it was a “very long time ago”. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter When asked if the criticism bothered him in an interview with talkSPORT, the 27-year-old said: “Not really. I’d done something that comes around once in a lifetime. The last time it was done… I don’t know when Man United did it, but it hasn’t been done for ages.” As most football fans will remember, Sir Alex Ferguson managed United to a historic treble in 1999 which concluded with the dramatic 2-1 win over Bayern Munich in injury time at the Camp Nou. Grealish admitted to staying up for 72 hours at one point before joining up with the England squad last week. “Why not celebrate like that?” he added. “Everyone was with me. I wasn’t on my own, going out with my friends. I was with the whole team. We enjoyed ourselves on the Saturday, Sunday, Monday. I had the best weekend of my life. I’d just won the Champions League and I was so emotional after it.” Asked whether he’d recovered from the partying, he answered: “Yeah, of course! I probably had one of the most enjoyable seasons of my life. “The second half of the season, I played a big part in something that will go down in Man City history. Last weekend was the best weekend I’ve ever had. I’m still trying to come to terms with it. I’ve been on such a high the last week. “I feel good. I trained on Wednesday and Thursday, and felt alright. Obviously, Saturday and Sunday, I felt good.” Have your say in our news democracy. Buffalo Bills’ Jordan Poyer reveals why he cancelled golf event at Trump club
NFL player Jordan Poyer of the Buffalo Bills announced that he has cancelled his annual golf event, following pushback and teams and sponsors pulling out of the charity tournament after they learned it would be hosted on a course owned by former President Donald Trump. The Bills safety announced the news on Instagram on Saturday. The event was set to take place next month at the Trump National Doral Golf Club in South Florida. “Unfortunately, the location of the event led to a few sponsors and golfers withdrawing at the last minute due to external pressures,” the 32-year-old wrote. “While it’s disappointing, I respect their decision. Nevertheless, we will persevere.” It remains unclear how many sponsors and teams withdrew because of the location. The event was intended to benefit the ECMC Foundation – the Erie County Medical Center – according to the Buffalo News. While Mr Poyer described them as a “big sponsor,” the foundation said they were simply the beneficiary. ECMC Foundation executive director Susan Gonzalez wrote in a letter to the Buffalo News that the “ECMC Foundation was fortunate to be a beneficiary of Jordan Poyer’s golf tournament in Florida”. “Although the Foundation was not a sponsor, we have had an excellent partnership with Jordan and we respect his decision to cancel his tournament; we hope he will consider supporting us in his future events,” she added. Last year, PGA of America ended its connection to Mr Trump and moved the 2022 PGA championship from his Bedminster, New Jersey golf course as a result of the January 6 2021 insurrection, Yahoo! Sports noted. The R&A revealed earlier this month that it wouldn’t organise the British Open at Mr Trump’s Turnberry golf course in Scotland while Mr Trump is the owner. The course previously hosted the tournament in 2009, about five years before Mr Trump acquired it. Mr Trump came under fire during his time as president when he suggested hosting the G7 summit at Doral. But Mr Trump’s courses have hosted several events organised by Saudi-operated LIV Golf. On Wednesday, the PGA Tour revealed that it would appear before a Senate subcommittee in July. Connecticut Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal has asked executives from the tour, as well as Saudi golf interests to appear before the panel as they probe the deal between the PGA and LIV that shocked the golf world. The Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations will hold a hearing on 11 July to look into the agreement between the PGA tour, Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, and the European tour to gather commercial business and rights in a new firm, the AP noted. “Our goal is to uncover the facts about what went into the PGA Tour’s deal with the Saudi Public Investment Fund and what the Saudi takeover means for the future of this cherished American institution and our national interest,” Mr Blumenthal said in a statement. “Americans deserve to know what the structure and governance of this new entity will be. Major actors in the deal are best positioned to provide this information, and they owe Congress — and the American people — answers in a public setting.” Read More Pence won’t say whether he’d pardon Trump Trump news – live: Trump named ‘Man of the Decade’ at GOP dinner as NFL star cancels golf event over backlash Trump is funneling 10% of 2024 campaign donations to cover his legal bills Rape accuser files new lawsuit as Trump seethes over 2024 flop – live Where do Donald Trump’s family stand on him running in 2024? Dillon Danis calls Logan Paul a 'pu**y' and tells him to meet him anywhere for a fight
Mixed martial artist Dillon Danis has challenged Logan Paul to meet him ‘anywhere in London’, after a dramatic press conference to promote their fight in Manchester in October ended without a face-off between the two fighters. Danis and Paul will enter the ring for a fight during the same event which sees musician and YouTuber KSI take on boxer Tommy Fury. However, when the pair were unable to finish the conference with a classic face-to-face, Danis tweeted: “I wanted a face-off with Logan Paul. He called it off in fear of his life and got me escorted out. “Meet anywhere in London p****.” Paul, meanwhile, put out his own tweet claiming Danis “threw a tantrum and left the arena before our face off”, attaching a photo of him confronting Mike Perry – “a real fighter who will actually show up” - instead. The comment is a reference to Danis previously being booked to fight KSI earlier this year, before pulling out. And things were already tense in the build-up to the press conference, as Paul took to Instagram Live to claim Danis “lodged himself in his [hotel] room” and is “not showing up” for their filmed face-to-face, before Danis finally arrived 40 minutes late. And Danis couldn’t help but clap back on Twitter in relation to the delay, joking he “had a surprise in the hotel room for my birthday”, sharing yet another picture of Paul’s fiancée Nina Agdal. During the press conference itself, Danis walked on-stage with the same Toy Story alien hat worn by Paul in his infamous 2017 video from Japan’s Aokigahara forest in which he filmed a person who had died by suicide, and then launched Prime bottles into the audience. Paul, meanwhile, had his own surprise props, beginning with a poster appearing to show Danis in an altercation together with text saying “real fighter”, and ending with a birthday cake depicting a bloodied Danis knocked out on the floor. The conference was brought to a sudden halt, however, when Fury’s father John Fury punched a table before flipping them all over. As the chaos ensued, Paul got the head of Danis from his cake and lobbed it at his opponent. While the event resumed for a face-off between KSI and Fury, which saw the former push the latter, no face-off took place between Danis and Paul. The boxing match involving all four fighters takes place in Manchester on 14 October. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. On a typical day, the Ocean Spirit would be operating eco-tours across Maui as part of the non-profit Pacific Whale Foundation's marine conservation and education program. The ship survived the Maui wildfires earlier this week that leveled entire communities and killed at least 80 people because it was anchored off Lahaina and not in the harbor (another foundation ship, moored in the harbor, was not so lucky).
