A mother was left furious after being made to clean up her son’s sick after he vomited in a supermarket. There are many instances discussed online that divide the internet, such as this supermarket etiquette, and one woman has continued the conversation after revealing a horrible moment she experienced. The anonymous woman shared on social media that she was in a Woolworths supermarket chain in Australia with her five-year-old and two-year-old when her youngest son vomited while they were at the self-checkout. She tended to her son and apologised to staff for what had happened but was shocked when they told her she'd have to clean the mess up herself. She explained: “Then I started to get really frustrated and flustered (I wasn't rude or anything like that), after I settled my son I apologised to staff for having to get someone to clean up, and the worker turned to me and said ‘no, you have to clean it up’.” The woman explained she started clearing up her son’s vomit while trying to manage her two children who were getting fussy. The mother continued: “My son was being a real handful the whole time, and we were so close to the front entrance that opened up to a busy road. “I started to clean, and the employee told a worker to stand over me to make sure I cleaned it up, meanwhile my son was trying so hard to run out to see cars.” The woman posted the story, asking other users if she should consider complaining to the supermarket and it’s fair to say the responses were split. One person wrote: “'As someone who worked in retail, they should have assisted her by at least scanning her groceries while she tended to the kids. Or offered to watch them while she was cleaning up so that the kid didn't run out.” Another said: “I’ve worked in retail for over 20 years and seen so many sick kids/grandparents. Never have I seen someone clean up their mess.” But, others believe the responsibility for the mess lies with her and she should have cleaned it up. “It would be lovely if the shop staff offered, however, they’re not obliged to and it’s 100 per cent your responsibility to clean up bodily fluids,” someone argued. If you’re taking your teen to Glastonbury or any festivals this summer, you are probably thinking about all the things that could possibly go wrong. There could be a big fall out, maybe they get lost, or it may just turn out to not really be their thing. Either way, it’s best to be positive, as they are at that age where they probably want more independence, embracing more responsibility, and figuring out their likes and dislikes. Here are a few things to consider before the big event. Choose the festival together In a typical year, thousands of festivals take place across the country with some having more than 200,000 people in attendance. From music to heritage and comedy to film, it’s safe to say that you and your teen are spoilt for choice. “Taking kids to festivals is a great way of introducing some outside life and it’s good to try and make it as cost effective as possible, so being prepared is key,” said child and behavioural expert Amanda Jenner. “Make sure you pick your festival wisely for the first time and check the events so you can make a plan for the day.” And sometimes, opting for a smaller or fringe festival would make for a less overwhelming introduction. Allow them to bring a friend This wouldn’t be a terrible idea, especially if the friend is also a first-time goer. Although a festival is like a small town populated with friendly faces you can build new interactions with, it helps to have a familiar face around — close in age — who your teen can share this new experience with. It could also help ease any quiet worries they have and give them a real opportunity to enjoy themselves, escape for the weekend and strengthen their friendship bond. “Bringing a friend is OK, but it’s a huge responsibility so lay down the rules in front of both sets of parents and have a meeting point if you get separated. Make sure they have mobiles fully charged. Location settings on at all times,” Jenner added. Tell them the truth If you’ve been to a festival before, you would know what to expect, so rip the band-aid off. Give your child the heads up and let them know that there will be incredibly long queues, huge crowds and sometimes even some chaos. And yes, people will be drunk, giddy and misbehaving. “I would make your own wrist band with mobile numbers on it so you can be contacted at anytime if you get separated. And make a note of any medical conditions to be on the safe side,” said Jenner. Freeze water bottles so they stay cool all day. [For older children], explain the rules: never accept anything of anyone other than your parents. “Pack snacks for the day as it can be expensive. Nothing that would melt. Invest in a soft cool bag to keep things cold for snacks during the day. As food is pricey.” Support them in their outfit choices Thankfully the sun will be shining, but knowing British weather, you can’t put all your eggs in one basket. Remember to bring a light jacket you can layer up with, your umbrella, and hat too. That aside, festivals are for statement outfits that will ensure you stand out from the crowd. Depending on your teen — you know them best — let them choose a theme that combines their personal style with comfort. It’ll give them something to look forward to. Make a plan but be flexible Familiarising yourself with the schedule could help you better plan your time at the festival. Depending on what type of festival it is, there could be many things happening at the same time. Are there any must-sees? Things you don’t mind missing? Any non-negotiables? Dividing your schedule using these subcategories will help you both remain on the same page. “Give them some space. But perhaps for a first festival allow 30 minutes at a time to see if they adhere to the times, and let them go for a further 15 mins each time,” said Jenner. “Make sure you have a good plan so you get the most out of the day and night. A video review official has been removed from his Champions League game on Wednesday, one day after having a key role in a disputed decision to award Paris Saint-Germain a stoppage-time penalty for handball against Newcastle which contradicted Uefa’s own advice to referees. The VAR specialist from Poland, Tomasz Kwiatkowski, is no longer listed to work at the Real Sociedad-Salzburg game and has been replaced by a German match official. In Paris on Tuesday, Kylian Mbappe scored in the eighth minute of stoppage time to salvage a 1-1 draw after a ball struck Newcastle defender Tino Livramento in the chest and then deflected off his arm, and a penalty was awarded by Polish referee Szymon Marciniak following a VAR review. Marciniak refereed the Champions League final last season and the 2022 World Cup final with Kwiatkowski in his team. Marciniak initially allowed play to continue Tuesday but awarded the penalty after he was advised by his video assistant to review the incident on the pitchside monitor. However, a Uefa panel of storied coaches and former players said in April that “no handball offense should be called on a player if the ball is previously deflected from his own body, and, in particular, when the ball does not go towards the goal.” The advice to be given to match officials this season was detailed by the panel, chaired by Uefa Chief of Football Zvonimir Boban, in an April 25 statement headlined “Uefa Football Board urges more clarity on handball rule.” “The handball rule, for example, will always be disputed, but we can make it more consistent and aligned with the game’s true nature,” Boban, the former Croatia and AC Milan great, said in April. Uefa declined to comment, in line with a policy not to discuss field of play decisions. The current laws of the game allow for handballs to be penalized even if the contact was not intentional and after a deflection if a defender’s arm is judged to be in an unnatural position. “But his hand is not in an unnatural position,” Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said after the game, “(his hands) are down by his side, but he is in a running motion.” The cross from Ousmane Dembele that struck Livramento was also going backward — and not towards goal.
