Sean Dyche praised Everton’s improved mentality away from home after he watched his side beat Crystal Palace 3-2 at Selhurst Park to make it back-to-back Premier League victories on the road. Twice in south London Everton surrendered their lead but neither time were they deterred and they finally nicked it with a goal from Idrissa Gueye four minutes from the end. Dyche, whose side beat West Ham at the London Stadium on their last Premier League away day, said he saw clear signs that his players are forging a mentality to win consistently away from Goodison Park. “Obviously topsy-turvy,” said Dyche. “We started so well, with a fantastic goal. They responded with a moment we should have dealt with earlier. They get a soft penalty from our point of view. “Then really it was a strange game after that. I don’t think anyone really gripped the first half, and second half (Palace) did. I thought they were very good. I think we had to work very hard. “I think the mentality I’m trying to work with the players on is the belief in finding different ways of winning games, and I think we’re showing that. “We had to do it last week against Brighton, so nearly won but got a good point. Then coming (to Palace) today. “Away form here was a big question mark when got here. We’re beginning to change the mentality towards these games. That was on show today.” Vitalii Mykolenko headed in Jack Harrison’s cross after only 55 seconds but Eberechi Eze, on his first start since returning from a hamstring injury, levelled from the penalty spot four minutes later. Abdoulaye Doucoure restored Everton’s lead minutes after the break, but again Palace fought back to level when Odsonne Edouard capitalised on James Tarkowski’s error to score. The hosts could not hold on to a point, though, as Gueye struck late to win it after latching on to Doucoure’s excellent through-ball. Mykolenko, who had a hand in Doucoure’s goal, put in one of his best performances in an Everton shirt and Dyche said he felt the Ukrainian’s progression encapsulated his side’s improved approach in recent weeks. “He’s beginning to mature into himself really as a player and in his Everton career,” he said. “I think he can defend, he’s beginning to show that he can go forwards, he wants to get into the right areas. “It’s a fantastic header and he’s nearly got a brace with a lovely strike, a controlled effort at goal.” Palace boss Roy Hodgson reflected on a match that ultimately slipped away from his side despite a gallant effort to twice recover from falling behind. “I’m sad, I’m frustrated,” he said. “Early goals in each half, we had to come from behind twice. “We had to work very hard to come from behind twice and put in a very good effort. Former France and Manchester United goalkeeper Fabien Barthez announced his retirement from football, on this day in 2006. The 1998 World Cup winner made his announcement on French television channel TF1, three months after appearing in the 2006 World Cup final. Barthez, aged 35 at the time, said: “I am quitting the French team, I am quitting club football. I am going to continue enjoying myself without football.” The mercurial Frenchman, who also helped his country win Euro 2000, initially quit soon after being released by Marseille at the end of the 2005-06 season. He had been France’s first-choice keeper in the 2006 World Cup, with his last match being the penalty shoot-out loss to Italy in the final. Barthez was with United for four years between 2000 and 2004, winning two Premier League titles in the process. The only club I wanted to go to was not so happy to have me. I needed an adventure and I have only done things that I want to.” Barthez’s club retirement did not last long though, with the keeper announcing in December 2006 that he had signed a deal with Nantes. But the following April, after an altercation with a Nantes fan, Barthez left the club and, although he stated his intention to carry on playing, he did not make another appearance. The popular Twitter account tracking Elon Musk’s private jet, which was suspended from the social media platform, now has a new presence on Instagram’s rival platform Threads. “ElonJet has arrived to Threads,” the new account named “Elon Musk’s Jet” run by the University of Central Florida student Jack Sweeney posted last week. Mr Sweeney was stopped by Twitter last year from posting the realtime whereabouts of Mr Musk’s private jet using publicly available data. He had started tracking Musk’s plane in 2020, and at the time of his Twitter account’s suspension, it had over 500,000 followers. The Twitter owner reasoned that anyone posting real-time coordinates would be suspended “as it is a physical safety violation” after his son was pursued by an unknown motorist in Los Angeles. “Criticising me all day long is totally fine, but doxxing my real-time location and endangering my family is not,” Mr Musk said. “Legal action is being taken against Sweeney & organizations who supported harm to my family,” the Tesla titan said in a separate tweet. Following this, Mr Sweeney began posting on Twitter with the account, ElonJet but Delayed, sharing information on the SpaceX chief’s private jet’s movements with a 24-hour delay. However, he continued to post real-time updates on the plane on rival social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Mastodon. But despite Mr Musk’s threat, no “legal action” appears to have been taken against the college student. “Remember when Elon said he would sue me. Just another empty threat,” Mr Sweeney posted on Threads on Friday. Now, finding a new home on Threads, Mr Sweeney’s new account has already racked up more than 78,000 followers at the time of writing. “I’m honestly hoping Twitter dies... As I am hindered on there, you search for my name, seems I’m search banned,” the college student told Insider.
