Nigel Farage squirms over expenses claims in awkward resurfaced clip
Nigel Farage is, unfortunately, being spoken about more than ever as he entered the jungle for I'm A Celebrity... Now, an old clip has resurfaced of the former MEP being asked about his expenses where he appears to get extremely uncomfortable. The clip, from a 2014 episode of Have I Got News for You, starts with Farage saying: "I think it's absolutely disgusting, all these elected politicians using all these expenses to better themselves, it's disgraceful." Then one of the show's panelists, Ian Hislop replies: "It is absolutely disgraceful Mr. Kettle." Stephen Mangan, the host of the episode then reads aloud the following quote from Farage: "What we've seen is a Prime Minister who clearly is totally disconnected with how the voters in Britain feel about MPs' expenses." Mangan then adds: "The same Nigel Farage who in 2009 revealed that as an MEP he'd claimed in expenses £2 million of taxpayers' money." Visibly uncomfortable, Farage tries to worm his way out of scrutiny saying, "and who was it that bought up the issue of £2 million and me and taxpayer's money? Denis MacShane." MacShane is a former MP and was convicted in 2013 for false accounting in regards to expenses-claims. "Yeah he's in jail, but you're not," Hislop then pointed out to Farage. Mangan then continues: "As a tax-funded MEP Nigel Farage is an equal opportunities employer, some of our money has gone to his wife, and some to his mistress." Farage's appearance on ITV's I'm A Celebrity... has led for calls to boycott the show's platforming of him, especially once viewers learnt that he had been paid £1.5 million to appear in the jungle. Tourists slam wax museum for dodgy celebrity figures
Tourists slam wax museum for dodgy celebrity figures
Tourists have slammed a wax museum with dodgy Cristiano Ronaldo and Elton John models among those on display. The questionable lookalikes also include Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, and Mark Zuckerberg. Visitors to the Sopot Wax Museum tourist attraction have been left “disappointed” or in hysterics. Portuguese ace Ronaldo is still in a Real Madrid kit despite leaving the Spanish giants five years ago. He has played for Juventus and Man United since and is currently with All Nassr. Elton looks nothing like the retired Rocketman. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie – who divorced seven years ago – are also in the exhibition. Gangnam Style singer PSY makes an appearance – 11 years on from his one-hit-wonder. And Chiquinho Boca Grande – who entered the Guinness Book of World Records in 2010 for his 17cm mouth – also has his own statue. Other waxworks look a world away from their supposed famous faces. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg donned a curlier-looking hairstyle. Lord of the Rings character Gandalf bears little resemblance to actor Ian McKellen. Other wax works at the Sopot Wax Museum in the town of Sopot, near Gdańsk, Poland include Michael Jackson and Jennifer Lopez. Rihanna and Lady Gaga also feature. Brit Phil, who visited last month said: “Having read other reviews about the museum, we didn't know what to expect but decided to visit as we had nothing else to do. “If this is supposed to be Sopot's answer to Madame Tussauds museum, that is stretching the truth too far. “It was more like ‘The Hammer House Of Horrors’.” One tourist said: “Very poor and disappointing exhibition. “The place is very small with only a few images that mostly do not look like themselves.” Another tourist said: “Kids will enjoy it but if you’ve been to a wax museum before like the one in London you won’t be impressed.” Livid Maria said: “I read the reviews before I went here so I was prepared for the worst, that was why we went here as well. “It was not the figures that disappointed me it was the fact that all. “These figures of Einstein, trump and famous persons were not there. “I don’t know if it was because they were renovating but that was very disappointing because we looked so much forward to it. “We only paid 15 zloty for students so that was not too bad. “It was 20 zloty for adults. “Would not recommend.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. On this day in 2008: David Beckham heads to Milan to boost England hopes
David Beckham joined AC Milan on loan from Los Angeles Galaxy on this day in 2008. The then 33-year-old England midfielder agreed a two-month move to Italy to stay fit during the MLS close-season in the United States. England manager Fabio Capello, who coached Beckham at Real Madrid, said: “Milan have made a good addition. “At Madrid I left him out of the squad because he had signed a contract with Los Angeles but he continued to come on the field and train and I put him back in the team. “He is a very serious lad, very sensible, a professional. People think he is a playboy off the field, it’s not true at all.” The 108-times capped Beckham felt a move to Milan would boost his chances of England selection. Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena said: “His reasons are to stay fit and to make himself available for England, and the only way he can do that is to be training and playing in a good environment. “This, on the part of David, was a purely technical rationale. He wants to continue to play for England and this is one of the ways to do that.” Beckham began his glittering career at Manchester United, where he won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the Champions League. He joined Real Madrid in 2003 and spent four years in Spain before moving to LA Galaxy. Beckham had two loan spells at Milan and ended his career at Paris St Germain in 2013. Beckham went on to win 115 caps for England, a total only bettered by Peter Shilton and Wayne Rooney.
