It’s done – Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas take minority stake in Leeds
Three-time major winner Jordan Spieth has confirmed he and fellow golfer Justin Thomas are now minority stakeholders in Leeds. The two friends were expected to be joined by another fellow professional Rickie Fowler but he pulled out of a deal when the club were relegated from the Premier League in May. Spieth and Thomas have got on board with 49ers Enterprises, an American investment group which also owns the San Francisco 49ers NFL franchise, who took charge of the club after agreeing a deal to buy out chairman Andrea Radrizzani’s controlling stake. “Relegation wasn’t ideal but then we got involved with the 49ers group who were purchasing a larger share in Leeds United to do the stuff they do so successfully everywhere else they have touched and thought it would be a really cool opportunity,” Spieth told Sky Sports. “It’s done. Myself and Justin (Thomas) we’re involved in a very minority stake but within the bigger 49ers organisation. “They (the 49ers) renegotiated (after relegation) and then we got to decide whether we do it or not. “We always wanted to do it and it ended up possibly a better deal, as long as they can get promoted (to Premier League) soon.” Asked about Fowler’s involvement, Spieth added: “I don’t think so. I think he decided, once they were relegated, against it.” Read More Charity boss speaks out over ‘traumatic’ encounter with royal aide Ukraine war’s heaviest fight rages in east - follow live

Nasa says mysterious ‘UFO’ sightings cannot yet be explained
Nasa cannot yet explain all of the mysterious sightings that have been spotted in the sky, a major new report has said. A panel assembled by the space agency to examine Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, or UAPs, said that more and better data is required to be able to explain them. :: Follow our live blog on the Nasa report here. Recently, a number of people – primarily military pilots – have said they have spotted unrecognisable objects over the US. While some have been explained as having known natural or human-made causes, some continue to defy explanation. To better understand where those still mysterious phenomena are coming from, the space agency’s panel urged it to come up with “a rigorous, evidence-based, data-driven scientific framework” to better examine and understand them. Some of that can be done by Nasa, it said, and the space agency should play a “prominent role”. But the research must be done across the US government. Nicola Fox, the associate administrator of Nasa’s Science Mission Directorate, says begins the report by saying that UAPs are “one of our planet’s greatest mysteries”. “Observations of objects in our skies that cannot be identified as balloons, aircraft, or natural known phenomena have been spotted worldwide, yet there are limited high-quality observations,” she writes. “The nature of science is to explore the unknown, and data is the language scientists use to discover our universe’s secrets. “Despite numerous accounts and visuals, the absence of consistent, detailed, and curated observations means we do not presently have the body of data needed to make definitive, scientific conclusions about UAP.” Read More Nasa’s UFO study team reveals first ever report: Live updates Information Commissioner urges people to share data to protect at-risk children iPhone 12 is not emitting dangerous radiation, Apple says, amid fears of Europe ban

Outrage in India as government hikes taxes on online gaming to 28%
The Indian government has announced that it would impose a heavy 28 per cent tax on the funds collected by online gaming firms from its customers, dealing a blow to the country’s fast-growing industry valued close to $2bn. India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council, consisting of federal and state ministers, said on Tuesday that it has agreed to levy a 28 per cent indirect tax on online gaming, casinos, and horse racing, adding there should be no distinction between “game of skill” and “game of chance.” Industry experts have voiced concerns that the increased tax burden on the companies may lead to extra charges levied from customers. Companies have so far only paid a small tax on the fee charged from customers for playing games involving real money, but Tuesday’s new rule would impose a 28 per cent tax on the amount these firms collect from players in every game, dealing a hefty blow to their operations. “The implementation of a 28 per cent tax rate will bring significant challenges to the gaming industry. This higher tax burden will impact companies’ cash flows,” Aaditya Shah, an executive at the gaming app IndiaPlays, told Reuters. The new move also comes amid a number of reports across the country of gaming addiction and financial losses among fantasy cricket players and online card games. Commenting on the GST Council’s decision, Roland Landers, chief of the trade body All India Gaming Federation which represents firms like Mobile Premier League, Gameskraft, and Paytm First Games, said it is “unconstitutional, irrational, and egregious”. “This decision will wipe out the entire Indian gaming industry and lead to lakhs of job losses and the only people benefitting from this will be anti-national illegal offshore platforms,” Mr Landers said in a statement, TechCrunch reported. Ashneer Grover, co-founder of the Indian fintech company BharatPe and a former Shark Tank India judge, tweeted that the move may pose risks “not only for online games – but across sectors. Across startups.” “You got billions in from foreign investors as FDI (foreign direct investment). Celebrated FDI inflow! Now the same investors will apply regulatory risk discount to India and funds will dry up,” he said. “RIP – Real money gaming industry in India....It was good fun being part of the fantasy gaming industry - which stands murdered now,” Mr Grover tweeted. All the athletes that weigh the same as Donald Trump
Donald Trump has surrendered to the authorities on 13 charges of attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. His mugshot has got people talking after being released online – and so has his weight. The former president has listed his height and weight after being booked and released from the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, and no-one is buying it for a second. While his height is listed at a believable 6 foot 3, his weight is listed at a trim 215 pounds. It’s a big drop from the last time the ex-president’s weight was divulged during his first criminal indictment in April. At the time, Trump reportedly told New York officers he weighed 240 pounds. It’s safe to say people are a little skeptical, and when compared to some of the biggest sporting stars in the US, it’s no surprise. These are the athletes who have almost exactly the same weight and height as Trump is claiming to be. CJ Stroud Houston Texans quarterback Stroud is one of the young stars to look out for in the NFL, having been the number two pick in the draft. He was officially recorded at the same height as Trump and weighing 218 pounds, just three pounds heavier. Kenny Pickett Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Pickett is officially listed as 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds. Lamar Jackson Baltimore Ravens star Jackson measures 6 foot 2 and 215 pounds. Evander Craft “This is 6'3" and 215lbs (left), not this (blech/right)”, said a social media user, posting a picture of University of Toledo linebacker Evander Craft. Derek Carr Others also pointed out that New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr had the same measurements, with one writing: “Wow Trump is 6’3 and 215lbs so is Derek Carr they could be twins.” Others pointed to New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr and Minnesota Vikings signal caller Kirk Cousins being in the same range. “Lol. So Trump around the height and weight of the average NFL quarterback,” a user wrote as another added: “Got Trump out here suggesting his height & weight, and finding out he’s built like an NFL QB.” Chris Hemsworth He’s not a sportsman, of course, but Hemsworth previously revealed that he weighed 215lbs during the filming of Thor. The actor spoke about his weight while discussing Formula 1 film Rush, saying he had to trim down for the movie. "The first thing Ron Howard said to me when I got the Rush job was, 'I don’t know if Thor is going to fit into a race car'. I was filming The Avengers when I got the call for Rush, so I went from 215lbs, which is how much I weigh when I'm playing Thor, down to about 185lbs," he said.
