11 Burning Man videos that show the grim conditions at the Nevada festival
Tens of thousands of Burning Man festivalgoers are stranded at the Nevada desert due to flooding. Heavy rain forced nearby roads to be closed, prompting chaotic scenes at Black Rock. Those in attendance have been urged to conserve food and take shelter. Officials have also confirmed the death of one person "during this rain event" with no further details. Their family has been informed. Rumours online suggested the scenes were a result of an Ebola outbreak – claims officials have since shut down. In a statement to indy100, the Bureau of Land Management's (which oversees the Black Rock Desert site) public information officer for Burning Man said: "I can confirm the event entrance was closed for the year because unusual rainfall caused muddy conditions where there was a full stop on vehicles, and not for an Ebola outbreak. "We have heard no information of any participants with Ebola." Festivalgoers have since turned to TikTok to share the scenes... @burningmanfashion #burningman update by @Christine Lee #burningman2023 #burningmanvideos #thankslarry @angiepeacockmsw Burning Man is now Flooded Man. #burningman2023 #burningman #blackrockcity #fyp #nomad #vanlife @nadia_abraham Pray for him people ?? #burningman #burningman2023 #titanicsound #mud #festival @gracetbarr1 Barely made it out of Black Rock City to avoid the 2 day lockdown. Organisers of the festival believe it can "produce positive spiritual change in the world," and "generate society that connects each individual to his or her creative powers, to participation in community, to the larger realm of civic life, and to the even greater world of nature that exists beyond society." Burning Man is expected to pump $60 million into the Nevada economy, according to Work Live Play, with tickets said to cost anywhere between $575 to $2,750. "Going to Burning Man, as I’m sure you’ve gathered, isn’t a straightforward operation," We Are Global Travellers shared. "It’s not cheap, it’s in the middle of the Nevada desert and it’s not something (unless you’ve been before or have friends in the know) that you can just whip together last minute." Man who 'transformed' himself into a dog barks back at trolls who say it is a 'fetish'
A man who spent $22,000 transforming himself into a collie has hit back at online trolls who have called his desire to be a dog a “fetish”. The Japanese man named Toco has had a lifelong dream to become a collie and has dropped several thousand dollars in order to do so. But, since taking his first public “walk” in his newly transformed state, haters online have told him he needs “therapy”. Clips of Toco walking around as a dog went viral as he did tricks like rolling over, playing fetch and other dog-like actions. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter On Twitter, someone wrote: A Japanese man spent over $20K for this border collie costume. You cannot convince me this isn’t some weird sex thing.” But, Toco has hit back at online haters, arguing that it is simply his hobby and there is nothing nefarious about it. Dogs and people's reactions to seeing a realistic dog costume! www.youtube.com Toco explained: “I’m just sad that people can think that. I love animals and enjoy play-acting like a collie.” He continued: “This is my hobby, so I will carry on. It makes me happy and other people happy, too.” Toco revealed that he has been dreaming of transforming into a dog since he was a child. He said: “Do you remember your dreams from when you are little? You want to be a hero or a wizard.” Toco continued: “I remember writing in my grade school graduation book that I wanted to be a dog and walk outside.” In order to achieve his dream, he spent 2 million yen on a hyper-realistic collie costume made by the company Zeppet, which usually takes commissions from TV and film studios. The final costume took 40 days to make and involved multiple revisions to get perfect. However, Toco does understand that some people will find his hobby strange. In one video, he said: “I haven’t told anyone about my transformation into a dog,” adding, “I am still afraid that my friends will find my hobby bizarre.” Have your say in our news democracy. Former Coronation Street star Chris Fountain shares hospital updates after heart surgery for ‘mini-stroke’
Actor Chris Fountain has shared footage from the hospital following his heart surgery. The former Coronation Street and Hollyoaks star was admitted for an operation on his heart, months after suffering a “mini-stroke”. On social media, he updated his followers with posts to his Instagram stories on Friday (12 May). “I’m back, baby,” Fountain, 35, said to the camera while laying in his hospital bed. “Still feeling a little bit woozy, my groin is rather sore. But I’ve finally been allowed to eat and drink, but the cheese sandwich didn’t quite do it.” He added that his mother, who was in the room with him, would be going to find him something more substantial to eat before signing off. Later, he shared a video originally posted by Dutch musical theatre actor Martijn Vogel that explains the procedure that had been performed on him. Fountain’s surgery was to address a patent foramen ovale (PFO), which is described by the NHS as a hole between the left and right atria (upper chambers) of the heart. People with this condition are at a higher risk of stroke. If a PFO does not fix itself, the surgery to treat it consists of inserting a catheter with a closure device through the femoral vein in the leg up to the heart, where the device is left to close up the flap. In a later video, Fountain is seen walking around the hospital. “Back on my feet, they’ve cleared me to walk a little bit,” he said. “What a day! To be honest, I was really quite nervous when I went into the anaesthetist room, it all became very real.” He concluded on a positive note, telling fans that the outlook looks good so far after tests were run to check that the device is “in the right place and working, and not leaking”. The actor starred in more than 300 episodes of the long-running ITV soap, Coronation Street, from 2011 to 2013. He was fired after videos of him rapping about rape were discovered on YouTube. Since then, Fountain has addressed the impact that his firing has had on his life.
