Conspiracy theorist says he got the shape of Earth wrong after 'Nibiru' prediction fails
A conspiracy theorist who last week claimed the end of the world was coming, issued an “explanation” as to why the Earth was not destroyed. Mike Buckner, an American conspiracy theorist, warned people that a rogue planet named Nibiru was going to strike on Friday 18 August, ending life on Earth as we know it. Buckner told users on X (formerly Twitter) that he was “heading for the caves” for his best chance of life after claiming “few will survive”. He wrote: “THE FINAL 24 HOURS OF CIVILIZATION NIBIRU APPROACHES. THE POLE SHIFT IS COMING. FLOODS. QUAKES. FIRES. “HEAD FOR SHELTER. CAVES. BUNKERS. ALERT YOUR FAMILY. FRIENDS. NEIGHBORS. FEW WILL SURVIVE. “I AM HEADED FOR THE CAVES. GOOD LUCK” As other users mentioned in the community notes on the post, “The world did not end” on Friday. But, according to Bucker, there is an explanation as to why the planet did not end in a fiery collision. Bucker explained the reason is because he now believes the Earth is flat. He doubled down on his rather bizarre prediction by completely changing his view on the shape of the planet. He wrote: “I thought I was right. I thought Nibiru was coming. The physics worked. What didn’t work was my fundamental understanding of reality. “I now know the Truth. We live on a flat plane. We live underneath a firmament. The Globalists lie for control. More to come.” In the past, NASA has previously commented on the fact that a planet called Nibiru does not exist. The same conspiracy theory that Earth was going to be struck by “Nibiru” arose twice in 2012, leading the space agency to set the record straight. The space agency said: “Nibiru and other stories about wayward planets are an Internet hoax. There is no factual basis for these claims. “If Nibiru or Planet X were real and headed for an encounter with the Earth...astronomers would have been tracking it for at least the past decade, and it would be visible by now to the naked eye. Obviously, it does not exist.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Man calmly eating his sandwich metres from riots dubbed 'Frenchest thing you'll see today'
A man calmly eating his sandwich while police and protestors in France clashed metres away from him has become the latest hero of the internet. In a video, dozens of angry protestors can be seen hurling projectiles at police dressed in full riot gear in what is believed to be a Parisian suburb. A large fire burns between the groups sending plumes of smoke into the air. Amid the chaos the man sits on a public bench eating his sandwich, apparently unfazed. The video published on 30 June quickly went viral, amassing 9.3m views. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Twitter users praised the man’s calmness, with one person saying: “Normal summer activity in France: a person casually eating his sandwich in the midst of anti-police riots.” Another person said: “When you buy a baguette in Paris everyone knows you are allowed to finish eating it anywhere you like.” One commenter called the scene: “The Frenchest thing you’ll see today.” Another said: “This is another level of bravery.” The scene comes after nearly a week of violent social unrest in France after police allegedly shot dead a 17-year-old boy of Algerian descent, named as Nahel M. Police initially suggested the teenager drove his car towards them intending to hurt them, local media wrote. But footage verified by the AFP news agency appears to show an officer pointing his weapon at the driver through the car window and firing at point-blank range as the person behind the wheel seemingly tries to drive off. The officer who allegedly fired the gun had said he opened fire because he felt his and his colleague’s lives were in danger. He has since been arrested on charges of voluntary manslaughter. Forty-five-thousand police officers were deployed across the country on Friday evening as the government scrambled to bring the situation under control, with everybody from President Emmanuel Macron to footballer Kylian Mbappe calling for an end to the violence. The video of the man eating his sandwich echoes a similar slip shared earlier this year during another French protest. In March, diners were filmed calmly drinking a glass of wine in Bordeaux while demonstrators lit fires in the streets metres away from them. It seems that even a nationwide social uprising won't come between the French and their lunch. Have your say in our news democracy. Pharrell Williams makes his Louis Vuitton debut in star-studded Paris show
Pharrell Williams showcased his debut collection for Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2024 at Paris’s Pont Neuf bridge on Tuesday (20 June). The star-studded show kicked off the 50-year-old record producer’s tenure as Louis Vuitton’s men’s creative director. The show – themed “lovers” – consisted of “printed leather jerseys and rugbys, quilted denim, Mao-neck blazers and ghillie camo with LV logo cutouts.” In an interview before the show, Williams spoke about his role, which he has held since February 2023. “I’m the second Black man to ever experience this on the planet, the biggest fashion house in the world,” he said. “My brother Virgil [Abloh] was the first. “He made so many strides for the house and did so many things. He brought skate culture into this world – while being an American Black man. It’s unreal the fact that I get to do this as well.” Pharrell’s show was attended a number of celebrities, including music power couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z, rapper and actor Jaden Smith, his sister and fellow artist Willow Smith, supermodel Naomi Campbell, Spider-Man star Zendaya, rapper Megan Thee Stallion, Kim Kardashian, rappers Tyler, the Creator and A$AP Rocky, and pop star and business mogul Rihanna. During the show, Williams also premiered new songs, including an unreleased track with longtime collaborator Clipse. Footage of a song featuring Pusha-T and No Malice has since gone viral on social media. To celebrate Williams’s achievement, Jay-Z also delivered a surprise performance consisting of hit tracks such as “N***as in Paris,” “Frontin’,” “Public Service Announcement (Interlude),” “Change Clothes,” “F***WithMeYouKnowIGotIt,” and so on. Speaking to The New York Times about his post at LV, Williams said: “I am a creative designer from the perspective of the consumer. “I didn’t go to Central Saint Martins, but I definitely went in the stores and purchased, and I know what I like.” Williams said he wants to give the consumers “that same experience that you get when you go to Canal Street, a place that has appropriated the house for decades, right? “Let’s reverse it. Let’s get inspired by the fact that they’ll make some colourways that the house has never made. But then let’s actually make it the finest of leather.” Williams initially teased his menswear collection with a billboard featuring a pregnant Rihanna. Louis Vuitton confirmed the appointment of Williams as the late Virgil Abloh’s successor in February 2023. “Louis Vuitton is delighted to welcome Pharrell Williams as its new men’s creative director,” the fashion house said in a statement at the time. “His first collection for Louis Vuitton will be revealed next June during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris. The brand described Williams as a “visionary whose creative universes expand from music to art, and to fashion”.
