Anyone growing up in the late noughties will understand the cultural impact of Twilight (2008), but what would the casting choices look like if the film was made today? The movie adaptation follows the romance between human Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) catapulting the actors into stardom. There is much debate online amongst Twihards as to which stars of the 2020s would be able to play the role of these characters. Catherine Hardwicke, the director of the first film has her thoughts on this topic in a recent interview with Josh Horowitz on the Watch-a-long podcast. Horowitz mentioned that Priscilla actor Jacob Elordi is a popular choice for many people to play Edward. To which Hardwicke replied: "Oh, that would be perfect." "Jacob Elordi...I mean, he's amazing. He probably would be Edward today. Exactly." The podcast host also named Wednesday and Scream actor Jenna Ortega, as a potential Bella Swan - a suggestion that Hardwicke approved of. “I do think there’s a lot of really cool young actors today. Of course, you just mentioned Jenna Ortega, she’s amazing," she said. Pattinson famously criticised the Twilight series he starred in and Elordi similarly spoke out about his experience in the Kissing Booth trilogy where he rose to fame. “I didn’t want to make those movies before I made those movies,” he told GQ. “Those movies are ridiculous. They’re not universal. They’re an escape. "You have no original ideas and you’re dead inside. So it’s a fine dance,” the Australian actor added. While this hypothetical reboot cast with Elordi and Ortega sounds fantastic, there is already a different Twilight project in the works. Lionsgate is developing a Twilight TV series, the project is in its early stages, and it's reported that the author of the series Stephanie Meyer is involved but the project doesn't belong to a network or platform at the moment, as per Entertainment Tonight. Chelsea remain confident in their pursuit of Moises Caicedo despite Liverpool's interest and Brighton's deadline, believing they have a superior offer to the player and that they can trump the Anfield club on price. The race has created another sub-plot to Sunday's meeting between the two teams at Stamford Bridge, as both clubs have gone for Caicedo and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, in what almost appears a response to the other. Liverpool agreed a fee with Brighton on Thursday night, as confirmed by Jurgen Klopp, but it is felt by Chelsea that the 21-year-old Caicedo’s preference is to go to London. The Stamford Bridge hierarchy have indicated they are willing to go higher than Liverpool on price, which currently stands at a Premier League record of £110m. The big question is whether Brighton will accept that given they set a deadline of Thursday night for bids, but the likelihood is that money talks. Chelsea had made Caicedo their top midfield target in an area that needs strengthening, which is one reason he is so enthused on the move. Liverpool have yet to agree personal terms with the player. Ukraine have claimed that the commander of Russia’s Black Sea fleet, Admiral Viktor Sokolov, was killed in the missile strike on Sevastopol on Friday. The Ukrainian Special Operations Forces said in a social media update on Monday that he was among the 34 killed during the missile strike of the Black Sea fleet headquarters. They also claimed that 105 other occupiers were injured. The Russian defence ministry initially said that Friday’s strike killed one service member at the Black Sea Fleet headquarters, but later issued a statement that he was missing. They have not yet commented on the latest claims. Kyiv launched the missile attack on the fleet based in the port city of Sevastopol in occupied Crimea on Friday morning. Ukrainian officials said the attack, targeting what is believed to be the best of Russia’s navy, was timed to coincide with the naval commanders’ meeting. On Saturday morning, it followed this up with another missile attack on Sevastopol, according to a local Russian-installed official. The strike sent plumes of black smoke billowing from the building. Rob Page says Wrexham striker Paul Mullin will be considered for Wales selection if he scores regularly in League Two. Liverpool-born Mullin qualifies for the Dragons through his Welsh-born grandmother and has said he would love to represent Wales on the international stage. The 28-year-old has scored 78 goals in two seasons at Wrexham – helping the club owned by Hollywood actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds back into the English Football League – and won the 2022-23 FA Cup Golden Ball as the competition’s top scorer. Mullin’s eligibility has been a big talking point among Wales supporters with many keen to see him given a senior call, but manager Page was reluctant to select someone plying his trade in the fifth tier of English football. “Forget what he’s done up until now,” Page said ahead of Friday’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Armenia in Cardiff. “If he is playing in League Two and he’s scoring goals, then we will look at him and consider him.
