Lauren Boebert caught on video sprinting to vote she claims she missed on purpose
Colorado far-right Representative Lauren Boebert has been caught on video sprinting to a vote that she later claimed to have missed on purpose. She argued at the time that she missed the Thursday House vote on the raising of the debt ceiling as a “no-show protest”. But footage shared on Sunday by Morgan Rimmer of CNN shows Ms Boebert running up the stairs of the Capitol on the night of the vote. As she runs up the steps in the footage, Ms Rimmer tells Ms Boebert, “they just closed it”. “They closed it?” Ms Boebert asks before continuing up the steps. She seemingly missed the vote and then tried to claim that the mishap was intentional. “Deals cut in the dark are why we’re headed to 36 trillion in debt, and I refuse to be a part of it,” Ms Boebert said. Ms Rimmer tweeted: “Here is a clip from that night outside the Capitol, showing Rep. Boebert running up the stairs as though she was trying to make the vote, and me telling her that it had closed already.” Ms Rimmer tweeted the footage in response to the video shared by Ms Boebert on the platform. “Call it a protest — there’s absolutely no way to ever justify adding another $4-6 trillion in debt. This is more DC self-created garbage that I will always fight against,” Ms Boebert tweeted. According to Ms Rimmer, Ms Boebert entered a statement into the congressional record following the closing of the vote that she was “unavoidably detained” at the time and that she “would have voted no”. President Joe Biden signed the debt ceiling legislation on Saturday following its passing in both chambers of Congress to avoid a default on the US’s sovereign debt which is likely to have prompted a global economic crisis. On Friday night, Mr Biden addressed the nation from the Oval Office, telling Americans not to abandon the idea of bipartisanship. He said the aim of the debt deal was to “keeping the full, faith, and credit of the United States” and putting in place “a budget that continues to grow our economy and reflects our values as a nation”. “Passing this budget agreement was critical. The stakes could not have been higher,” he added. “Our economy would have been thrown in recession. Retirement accounts for millions of Americans would have been decimated, eight million Americans would have lost their jobs,” Mr Biden said. “Default would have destroyed our nation’s credit rating, which would have made everything from mortgages to car loans to funding for the government much more expensive and it would have taken years to climb out of that hole — and America standing as the most trusted, reliable financial partner in the world would have been shattered.” “No one got everything they wanted but the American people got what they needed. We averted an economic crisis and an economic collapse,” he added. “We’re cutting spending and bringing deficits down. And, we protected important priorities from Social Security to Medicare to Medicaid to veterans to our transformational investments in infrastructure and clean energy.” The bill passed the Senate by a margin of 63-36 and the House by 314-117. Jonah Hill’s girlfriend Olivia Millar gives birth to first baby
Jonah Hill’s girlfriend Olivia Millar gives birth to first baby
Jonah Hill, the Superbad actor and filmmaker, has welcomed his first baby with his girlfriend Olivia Millar. Hill, 39, was absent from his sister Beanie Feldstein’s wedding on 20 May and he did not appear in any photos or anywhere throughout Feldstein’s Vogue profile, raising speculation that the baby’s arrival may be imminent. The 21 Jump Street actor’s girlfriend was first seen with a baby bump in late March, in photos published by The Daily Mail. Hill’s representatives have now confirmed to the American publication People that Millar gave birth to a child in May but did not announce the baby’s name. Millar is the co-owner of an online vintage shop called Chasseresse, a business she owns with her sister. She was first spotted with Hill in August 2022 and the pair have been romantically linked ever since, keeping their relationship out of the public eye. Hill was previously engaged to photographer Gianna Santos before splitting in October 2020. Hill was then linked to surfer Sarah Brady and shut down claims that the two were engaged in February 2022. The Don’t Look Up actor, who has been more candid about his personal life in recent years – mainly his mental health – revealed in an open letter to fans that he has long dealt with anxiety and panic attacks. His Netflix documentary Stutz, a conversation between Hill and his longtime therapist Phil Stutz, was made to give other people the tools he learned through therapy. Hill decided not to promote the film but instead wrote a letter to his fans, which read: “The whole purpose of making this film is to give therapy and the tools I’ve learned in therapy to a wide audience for private use through an entertaining film. “Through this journey of self-discovery within the film, I have come to the understanding that I have spent nearly 20 years experiencing anxiety attacks, which are exacerbated by media appearances and public-facing events.” Read More Triathlete proudly shares ‘beautiful’ racing photo where she bled through swimsuit while on her period Prince William overheard telling Kate to ‘chop chop’ at Jordan royal wedding A Place In The Sun’s Jonnie Irwin admitted to hospital amid terminal diagnosis

On this day in 2014: Man Utd break British record to sign Angel Di Maria
On this day in 2014: Man Utd break British record to sign Angel Di Maria
Manchester United smashed the British transfer record when they completed the signing of Argentina’s Angel Di Maria on this day in 2014. The Red Devils, in a rebuilding phase following the departure of their hugely successful manager Sir Alex Ferguson the year before, paid £59.7million for the then 26-year-old. Di Maria, brought in by the club’s new Dutch boss Louis van Gaal, arrived at United fresh from helping his old club Real Madrid seal their 10th European title the season before. Di Maria said at the time of his signing: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining Manchester United. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Spain and there were a lot of clubs interested in me, but United is the only club that I would have left Real Madrid for. “Louis van Gaal is a fantastic coach with a proven track record of success and I am impressed by the vision and determination everyone has to get this club back to the top – where it belongs. I now just cannot wait to get started.” However, things never really clicked for Di Maria at Old Trafford on the pitch. He also endured a fairly miserable time off it, after an attempted burglary at his home in February 2015. Less than a year later, he joined Paris St Germain, and told the French media that he did not have a great relationship with Van Gaal. Di Maria spent seven years at PSG before joining Juventus in 2022. Last year was a special one for him, as he played and scored in the World Cup final as Argentina beat France on penalties. Earlier this summer he rejoined Portuguese side Benfica, his first European club after leaving Rosario Central in 2007.
