Jordan Peterson mocked by UFC fighter for threatening people who call him 'cis'
Jordan Peterson mocked by UFC fighter for threatening people who call him 'cis'
Former UFC fighter Ben Askren called Jordan Peterson's bluff after Peterson threatened those who call him 'cis' on Twitter. Cisgender is term that refers to a person who identifies with the sex given to them at birth. The phrase was coined in 1994 by Dana Defosse PhD., MPH to refer to people who aren't transgender that avoided marginalising transgender people. The Latin-derived prefix 'cis-' means "on this side of", and 'trans-' means "across from" or "on the other side of". The use of the term cisgender has increasingly upset some, mainly those who are anti-trans, and Jordan Peterson has appeared to have threatened anyone who referred to him as "cis". Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Peterson responded to an article written by the online publication Spiked, a British outlet launched in 2001. In spiked's tweet they write that "the term 'cis' is an invention of trans activists." Peterson then replied saying "call me cis to my face and see what happens" Out of the various replies to the Canadian psychologist's tweet, Askren, a former MMA world champion in Bellator and ONE Championship simply said: "Lol you'd do nothing" Whilst Askren appears to agree with Peterson's general view towards the term cisgender, he still had no problem criticising Peterson. Responding to a comment that said "you approve of this nonsense then?" "Lol of course not. I just no Jordan Peterson would do nothing. Maybe get really really mad and that's it." Askren clarified. Askren walked away from combat sports in 2019, leaving a lasting impact on various promotions such as Bellator, ONE Championship, and the UFC, as evidenced by his impressive MMA record of 19 wins and 2 losses. Teenager's essay that made English teacher cry has TikTok 'sobbing'
A teen’s heartwrenching essay that made her professor cry has gone viral on TikTok leaving readers “sobbing”. Teenager Ryan Harman penned the personal essay when she was just 18 years old after losing her mother to cancer. The TikTok has been viewed almost 7 million times and racked up 1 million likes as Harman shared screenshots of the story she penned about her mother’s untimely death. Harman’s heartbreaking story began with her explaining that her mother had been diagnosed with Sarcoma cancer in January 2021. At the time, Harman explained, her mum made it her mission to be around to see her children graduate and attend prom. The TikToker wrote: “She never asked the doctors for a time expectancy, she wanted to live the best she could with her 3 children and her husband. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter “My mom had a goal from the start, to watch me go to my senior prom and to see me and my sister, Madeline, walk across the stage at graduation. She achieved both of those goals.” As her mother’s condition worsened, Harman described the agony of knowing she was going to lose her mother, writing: “My heart shattered into a million pieces.” Harman recalled being by her mother’s side almost constantly towards the end and feeling a sense of “relief” when the final moment came that “my mom passed away just the way she wanted to and I knew she wasn’t in pain anymore”. The essay left other TikTokers in tears, with many in the comments commenting on how proud her mother would be of her. “I can’t stop crying,” one person commented. Another said: “Beautifully written, I know she is so proud of you.” Someone else wrote: “I’m sobbing.” One TikToker commented: “This has me ugly crying right now, you’re so strong. I know your mom is so proud of who you’ve become.” Have your say in our news democracy. Click the upvote icon at the top of the page to help raise this article through the indy100 rankings.

I always want more for myself – Phil Foden targets England goals and assists
I always want more for myself – Phil Foden targets England goals and assists
Phil Foden has backed himself to add goals and assists to Gareth Southgate’s England side in the build-up to Euro 2024. The Manchester City forward collected his 30th cap in Friday’s drab 2-0 win over Malta as England all-but secured their place as top seeds for next summer’s finals. It was Foden’s cross that Malta defender Enrico Pepe inadvertently diverted past his own goalkeeper to open the scoring as England toiled at Wembley. Harry Kane doubled the lead in the second half, finishing off a flowing team move in which Foden was an integral part. The 23-year-old has scored just four goals since making his debut in 2020 and a place in Southgate’s starting XI is still not guaranteed, with Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka often preferred on the right side of the attack. “I always want more for myself, I think I can add goals to this team – and assists,” Foden told beIN Sports. “I was involved in both of the goals (against Malta), maybe we weren’t at our best but we got the job done in the end and that’s the most important thing. I always want more for myself, I think I can add goals to this team and assists Phil Foden “I’m enjoying my football a lot at the moment, I’m expressing myself, I’m playing really well. So yeah, I need to keep that up, keep pushing myself to score more and get assists.” With Foden and Saka competing for a place on the right, 62-goal skipper Kane leading the line and the likes of Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish also pushing to start games, Southgate has an embarrassment of riches in attacking positions. The fact Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling has failed to get back into the squad since the World Cup in Qatar only proves how deep the options are for the national team – although his Blues team-mate Cole Palmer is now involved. The 21-year-old joined Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer, where Foden had seen what he could offer at close quarters. “He’s so relaxed on the pitch,” Foden said of Palmer. “He looks like he’s been there for years and he’s such a young lad with tremendous quality and is someone I know really well. “I tried to help him as much as I could at City when he was coming up and he is at Chelsea now and doing really well so I’m delighted for him to get his debut. “It just shows that if you work hard through the academy, it comes through so I’m really delighted for him.” Read More Can King Kohli be stopped?
