Host Maya Jama’s glamorous Love Island outfits cost over £10,000
Host Maya Jama has wrapped up the summer series of Love Island 2023 in suitable style. She revealed that Jess Harding and Sammy Root were the winning couple of the competition, wearing a glittering Noughties-inspired two-piece of a bralette and mini skirt. The Vittoria Two-Set from Annie’s Ibiza retails at £1,350, and Jama wore it with simple silver heels and her newly highlighted hair in beachy waves. Radio DJ and TV presenter Jama, 28, has become a fashion It girl over the past few years, and appeared on the August cover of British Vogue. Her style for Love Island has been bold, with lots of bright colours, form-fitting ensembles and on-trend cut-outs. Six of the main outfits she wore for the summer series of the show clock in at £10,765 if bought at full price – and that’s not considering shoes, accessories, or even the ensembles Jama wore for the weekly Love Island: Aftersun show. When singer Rita Ora did a surprise performance on the show, Jama tapped into the growing fashion trend for crochet. The knitted yellow dress was a custom outfit from Manchester-based designer Ella Mia, who later sold similar versions of the Maya Limited Ladder Dress in Yellow Gradient on her website for £225, which has now sold out. For another outfit, Jama donned a white two-piece from Singaporean designer Grace Ling, which had previously been worn by Jennifer Lopez to perform on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The white Pillar Drape Skirt retails at £1,021, while the matching Vertebrae Bralette costs £309. Lopez wore the ensemble with a white cropped jacket over the top, while Jama kept things simple and summer-ready without it. The presenter also chose white to make her entrance into the villa when the show kicked off in early June. She chose a daring crochet dress from Miami-based brand Cult Gaia, a go-to for models including Hailey Bieber and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. The Accalia Crochet Gown costs £2,400, and Jama paired it with gold strappy sandals and her hair in loose waves. Jama’s Love Island wardrobe was all about risque cut-outs – as seen in this electric blue knotted dress from French fashion house Balmain. The Balmain Alys Knit Dress retails at £3,895 on the Flannels website, but is currently on sale for £2,749. Jama rarely chose black for the show, but when she did, she wore a knock-out dress by up-and-coming London-based designer Nensi Dojaka. The Strapless Cutout Stretch-Jersey Maxi Dress had a plunging neckline, a cut-out at the bodice, and Jama wore it with poker-straight hair and simple strappy black sandals. Originally retailing at £1,565 on Net-A-Porter, the dress is currently on sale for £1,017.25. Secondhand September: The best places to buy pre-loved fashion online
This month marks the start of the autumn/winter fashion season and it’s also Second Hand September, Oxfam’s annual event encouraging consumers to avoid buying new items for 30 days. You don’t have to go rummaging through charity shops or car boot sales if you want to refresh your wardrobe for autumn or stock up on basics – there’s now a swathe of amazing sites that let you shop for pre-loved clothes from the comfort of your own home. By saying no to new, you can help prevent good quality garments from going to landfill and save money when you bag a bargain for a fraction of what it would have cost originally – and you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to pre-owned clothes shopping online. From resale platforms where users list their unwanted or unworn garments to vintage and designer-focused e-commerce retailers, here’s our pick of the best secondhand fashion sites… Vinted A peer-to-peer marketplace with a community of 75 million across the world, Vinted lets you buy direct from other users. The site has become so popular you might find the sheer array of products overwhelming at first. The key is to filter as much as possible. Try narrowing search results down by ticking the brands you usually buy on the high street (and avoiding the ones you don’t like), then sorting by price to find the cheapest options. Depop Hugely popular with Gen Z fashion obsessives, Depop is the go-to site for current trends, upcycled pieces and the latest vintage finds. Listings show how long ago an item was uploaded, so if it’s been on the site for a while you can try offering a lower price to the seller. Facebook Marketplace Connecting buyers and sellers in the same area, Facebook Marketplace is often the go-to site for people looking to clear out an overstuffed wardrobe or get rid of clothes when moving house. You just need a Facebook account to log in. Payment is completed via Messenger and you can arrange local pick-up or delivery (if the user offers that option). As well as individual items, look out for sellers offloading bundles of clothing in one size. eBay Having partnered with Love Island and appointed two former islanders as pre-loved ambassadors, online shopping behemoth eBay wants to be known as a leader in sustainable fashion. To simplify secondhand clothes shopping, the site now has a dedicated pre-loved fashion hub, where you can find items grouped by brand, trend, season, occasion, and more. ASOS Marketplace Focusing on the latest looks, ASOS Marketplace hosts independent brands and vintage boutiques – so make sure to tick the ‘vintage’ option under ‘condition’ when browsing for secondhand items. Charity shop sites While it’s great to support your local charity shops, you can also find some brilliant bargains and hand-picked premium pieces on charities’ online stores. Oxfam and Shelter have dedicated sites, while British Heart Foundation and British Red Cross have eBay shops. Vintage retailers If you’re lacking any decent vintage boutiques near you, don’t worry, because some of the biggest names in the game have online stores packed with gems from days gone by. Check out well-known brands like Beyond Retro and Rokit for retro threads dating as far back as the 1940s. Designer resale sites In the last few years, a crop of slick websites has popped up to serve shoppers hunting for secondhand luxury fashion. Head to sites such as Vestiaire Collective, Sellier, Lampoo and The Cirkel for designer clothes and accessories from brands like Burberry, Chanel, Gucci, Fendi and many more. What time is the FA Cup final?
A derby day at Wembley beckons, with Manchester City hoping to take another step toward equalling history - and Manchester United desperate to keep that particular page for themselves. The Red Devils are looking to emulate Liverpool from last season and win both the League Cup and FA Cup in the same season; the former is in the bag and now the latter is the target for Erik ten Hag’s team. Pep Guardiola’s Premier League winners, however, are in search of a treble. With the domestic title sewn up and a Champions League final on the horizon against Inter Milan, this match is the second part of their quest which would underline their dominance on home soil. City’s last FA Cup triumph came four years ago, while United are without this title in seven years. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the big day. Team news Pep Guardiola eased concerns over the fitness of a number of key Manchester City players ahead of the FA Cup final. Jack Grealish, Kevin De Bruyne, Ruben Dias and Manuel Akanji all missed the champions’ final Premier League game of the season at Brentford last week but those players have all since returned to training and are expected to come back into contention for both the Wembley showpiece. Guardiola has also confirmed second-choice goalkeeper Stefan Ortega will start at Wembley, in keeping with his usual policy for domestic cup fixtures. Antony is “unlikely” to be fit for the final due to an ankle injury and is set to join Anthony Martial, Marcel Sabitzer and Lisandro Martinez on the sidelines. Other than squad backups Donny van de Beek and Tom Heaton, everyone else is available. Predicted line-ups Manchester City: Ortega, Akanji, Dias, Ake, Stones, Rodri, Silva, Gundogan, De Bruyne, Grealish, Haaland Manchester United: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Lindelof, Shaw, Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes, Sancho, Garnacho, Rashford Odds City 11/21 Draw 39/10 United 11/2 Prediction Pep Guardiola’s team are naturally superior to Erik ten Hag’s across the board, but stopping a rival emulate your own history is a powerful motivator.
