Chaos erupts as protester in prison garb jumps in front of Trump motorcade
Chaos erupted in Miami after a protester jumped in front of former President Donald Trump’s motorcade as he left the federal courthouse after pleading not guilty to the 37 counts against him in connection to his alleged mishandling of national defence information. In an interview with The Independent before the incident took place, the protester identified himself as Domenic Santana. Speaking about why he was at the court, he said: “Hopefully, someday he has to be locked up. He should have been locked up a long, long time ago. He's gotten away with it. He's the master of spin, a graduate from the New York School of Rats and he has a master's degree and he knows how to spin it. He's going to spin it on this one. ‘It's political. It's because I'm running for president that they're accusing me.’” “He has his case made up. He doesn't need lawyers to defend him. He already knows the spin. Before the election, ‘Oh, if I lose it’s because of fraud’. That day he lost – ‘Oh, fraud, fraud fraud’. His Attorney General – ‘There was no fraud’. ‘You're fired,’ the next day. Come on. Enough is enough,” Mr Santana added. Footage from the scene appeared to show Mr Santana being tackled to the ground and arrested. Earlier on Tuesday, Mr Santana told the Sun Sentinel that supporters of Mr Trump “came for me. They were calling me a communist. Trump is a rat who graduated from the school of rats. He should have been locked up a long, long time ago”. Mr Santana is a Cuban-American retiree, according to the Palm Beach Post. He said he came to the court to confront Mr Trump’s “cult-like” following. “These charges are just the beginning of his lies.” On Monday evening, police separated Mr Santana from the crowd following a confrontation with supporters of the former president. Mr Santana, who lives in Miami, showed up at the courthouse the next day in the same old-school prison outfit and carrying his “Lock him up” sign. “He should have been locked up a long time ago,” he reiterated, according to the Miami New Times. Ukraine-Russia war - live: Putin’s ‘air strike on Kharkiv postal centre kills six and injures 14’
Six people have been killed and at least 14 injured in a Russian missile attack that hit a postal distribution centre in the war-devastated northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, Ukrainian officials have said. Oleh Synehubov, the region’s governor said on Telegram that several of the wounded were in serious condition in hospital, adding that all those killed and injured were postal workers. “Russian missiles hit the Nova Poshta centre - an ordinary civilian object,” President Volodymyr Zelenksiy said on the Telegram messaging app. It comes as Ukrainian forces damaged and destroyed almost 50 Russian tanks in just 24 hours as Vladimir Putin’s troops launched a fresh offensive in the Donetsk region, according to a US war think tank. The Insitute for the Study of War (ISW) said Russian forces launched a renewed attack near Adviika on Friday and “marginally advanced”, indicating Moscow’s commitment to offensive operations in the area “despite heavy materiel and personnel losses”. This includes the damage and destruction of almost 50 Russian tanks and over 100 armored vehicles by Ukrainian forces during the past day of fighting, reported the Ukrainian General Staff on Friday, according to the ISW. 'Wolves' actually beat 'Spurs' twice at the weekend
Football fans will likely have enjoyed Wolverhampton Wanderers’ last gasp win over Tottenham Hotspur this weekend - well those that don't support Tottenham – but they weren’t the only Wolves to beat a Spurs team. Wolves were trailing since the third minute of the game, when Brennan Johnson darted in front of Wolves right back Nelson Semedo to score a tap-in and put Spurs in the lead. Then, in the 91st minute, Wolves winger Pablo Sarabia took the ball down brilliantly off an early cross to volley home from eight yards. Mario Lemina completed the comeback in the dying minute of the game, with a scrambled finish from a Sarabia through ball. However, eagle-eyed sports fans noted that Wolves actually did the double over Spurs this weekend, after a basketball match in the US. Minnesota Timberwolves edged out San Antonio Spurs 117 points to 110 in the opening game of an NBA Western Conference in-season tournament. Karl-Anthony Towns was the star player there, to ensure that it was a good weekend for all wolves teams. One X/Twitter user, referencing Tottenham’s World Cup-winning French former goalkeeper who left over the summer, said: “Spurs have got to be regretting sending Hugo Lloris to their NBA side. Can't believe he conceded 117.” The football result boosted Wolves to twelfth in the Premier League table, while Spurs continued their recent downward slide to fourth. Manager Gary O’Neill said of the upset: “It was the most proud I have been of a group I have coached, to produce what they produced against a top side. “I would have been very proud of the group even if the game had finished 1-0 to Tottenham. “I spoke to the boys at half-time, that the scoreline was irrelevant. We were the better side, don’t let the scoreline dictate how you feel. “I try to make the team resemble me but I was never good enough to produce a performance like that. “To be 12 weeks in, we’re ahead of where we expected to be. There was a lot of noise around the place about how much of a struggle it might be but we’ve beaten Man City and Spurs, the top two, early on in the transition. We’re ahead of the curve.” How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Sign up to our free indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy.
