Arsenal winning race for Rice but Bayern face uphill struggle to capture Kane
The summer transfer market remains busy with plenty of deals and speculation. Here, the PA news agency rounds up some of the latest business and stories. Top story Arsenal’s pursuit of West Ham captain Declan Rice continues to command the most headlines. After having two bids rebuffed for the England midfielder, the Gunners’ third offer of £100million plus £5m in add-ons was reportedly accepted on Wednesday. Manchester City had been interested but, after having a £90m bid rejected, decided not to match Arsenal’s proposition. Done deals Tottenham completed the signing of James Maddison from Leicester for an initial £40m on Wednesday. The 26-year-old England international has signed a five-year deal and becomes new manager Ange Postecoglou’s third new recruit. Kai Havertz has crossed London to join Arsenal from Chelsea in a £65m deal and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has also left Stamford Bridge to sign for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli. Deals closing in Arsenal are shaping up to be one of the biggest movers in the summer window as they also close on the signing of Ajax defender Jurrien Timber. Chelsea are also reportedly in “advanced talks” over Santos winger Angelo Gabriel. Other gossip Chelsea’s interest in Brighton’s Moises Caicedo has now apparently been matched by Manchester United. This adds a layer of intrigue to United’s pursuit of Chelsea’s Mason Mount. Caicedo has emerged as a potential United target after they were knocked back by the Blues over Mount, so it will be interesting to see if this changes the picture. Meanwhile, Celta Vigo’s Gabri Veiga, who has a £34m buyout clause, is being looked at by Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City. Fulham and Nottingham Forest are potential destinations for another Chelsea player, Callum Hudson-Odoi. Liverpool are also being linked with RB Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai and the German side’s centre-back Josko Gvardiol is another potential target for champions City. Unlikely move The future of Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane remains the subject of considerable speculation as Bayern Munich apparently prepare a second bid, but the prospect of this move happening still seems remote. Bayern’s first offer of £60m was rejected out of hand and the feeling is the Germans would have to up it considerably just to get Spurs to the table. Even then, there has been no indication that Kane would be interested in such a switch. No move It was inevitable there would be some interest in Jamie Vardy following Leicester’s relegation but the 36-year-old apparently has no interest in joining Saudi Arabian side Khaleej FC. David Raya backed himself to be number one at Arsenal
David Raya insists he always backed himself to become Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper – but admits he does not know if he will start Sunday’s north London derby. The Spain international joined the Gunners on loan from Brentford this summer in a switch which, in all likelihood, will be made permanent for £27million next year. Raya was signed to compete with Aaron Ramsdale for the gloves and made his Arsenal debut in last weekend’s 1-0 win at Everton, retaining his place in the team for Wednesday’s 4-0 Champions League victory over PSV Eindhoven. Arsenal’s decision to recruit the 28-year-old to battle it out with Ramsdale drew criticism and caution from some pundits but manager Mikel Arteta believes he can keep both happy. Asked if he had to believe he could oust Ramsdale after the England goalkeeper’s strong showings last season, Raya replied: “Of course, it is something every player has to do – to back yourself to get in the team and that is why I moved to Arsenal and try to do my best for the team when I’m selected. “You never know when you’re going to play and that is the hardest thing to do. Making your debut for a club like Arsenal, and obviously having Aaron as a team-mate makes it a bit harder for you, but it came quick but you never know when it is going to be and you have to be ready. “It is a dream come true to play at the highest level so I’m very pleased to make my debut, but the main thing was the result and we got the three points in the end, so that is the main thing.” Raya will be widely expected to keep his place between the posts for Sunday’s Premier League clash at home to Tottenham, even with Arteta claiming he has considered swapping his goalkeepers during matches let alone rotating between fixtures. Making your debut for a club like Arsenal, and obviously having Aaron as a team-mate makes it a bit harder for you, but it came quick but you never know when it is going to be and you have to be ready David Raya “I understand that and I think it is the first time that two top goalkeepers are in the same team,” Raya said of the possibility of the goalkeepers being switched. “That is just part of football now and the gaffer wants two top players for each position and that is what we have to work with. I have played the last two games and now we see what happens on Sunday. “I’ve just been selected the last two games, that is just the choice of the gaffer – that is his choice, not my choice and when Aaron comes in he will need to also fight for the team and to win games. “He (Ramsdale) has been great, he is a great team-mate, a leader as well. He is a great lad and a great keeper as well, we are team-mates and that is the main thing. We are team-mates at the end of the day.” Read More Charity boss speaks out over ‘traumatic’ encounter with royal aide Ukraine war’s heaviest fight rages in east - follow live Jason Roy rejects England call as Tom Kohler-Cadmore added to squad Bruno Fernandes tells Andre Onana to stop blaming himself for Man Utd defeat Son Heung-min believes Arsenal should fear in-form Tottenham

KSI manager claims YouTuber ‘rejected more than $300m in sponsors’
The manager of popular YouTuber KSI has claimed the star rejected over $300 million in sponsorships and brand deals. In an episode of True Geordie's podcast on 8 October, manager and Misfits president Mams Taylor lifted the lid on the staggering amount KSI (real name Olajide 'JJ' Olatunji) turned down. "JJ and I have rejected maybe 300 plus million dollars since we started working together," Taylor, who started working with the YouTuber in 2018, alleged. He suggested that the offers "didn't align with making [KSI] happy," or were too demanding. The Man Behind KSI’s Empire, Misfits Boxing & Prime Hydration www.youtube.com KSI is set to go head-to-head with Tommy Fury on Saturday 14 October, as the pair make last-minute preparations ahead of the fight. August's press conference already got the hotly anticipated match off to a heated start when John Fury flipped over tables in anger. The pair will take to the ring before KSI's rival-turned-business-partner Logan Paul takes on Dillon Danis for the main event. In recent months, Danis has caused controversy when he harshly hit out at Paul's fiancee, Nina Adgal, on social media. He targeted Adgal with misogynistic trolling including old footage from her Snapchat and photos with previous partners. Subsequently, she filed a lawsuit seeking damages of £120,000 and has requested that the judge ban Danis from posting more sexually explicit images that could damage her reputation. The fight will take place at Manchester's AO Arena from 7pm GMT. It will also be available to stream on DAZN. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy.
