England vs Italy LIVE: Euro 2024 team news and line-ups from crucial qualifier as Harry Maguire starts
England are on the verge of joining Scotland at Euro 2024 and would join Steve Clarke’s side at the tournament if they defeat Italy at Wembley tonight. Gareth Southgate’s side are three points clear at the top of Group C with just three games remaining in qualifying. They come into the match knowing that a win would secure their place in Germany next summer but losing to the current European champions would not be a killer blow with fixtures against Malta and North Macedonia still to come. Tonight’s clash is a repeat of the heart-breaking Euro 2020 final where Italy won a penalty shootout at Wembley to claim the title. The Three Lions have since redeemed that loss with an impressive 2-1 win against Italy in Naples earlier in this qualifying campaign but a second victory over the Azzurri will cement England’s prowess ahead of the upcoming competition. Luciano Spalleti’s third game in charge of the national side saw Italy beat Malta 4-0 on Saturday to move above Ukraine into second place in the group and he’ll be hoping to keep that winning streak going this evening. I’ll be there for him – Dele Alli always has friend in Spurs star Son Heung-min
Son Heung-min says Dele Alli will always be part of the family and hopes his former Tottenham team-mate will not “have tough times anymore” as he looks to kick-start his career. Things have gone awry for the 27-year-old since he helped Spurs reach the 2019 Champions League final, with the England international failing to make an impact at Everton after moving there in January 2022. Alli recently revealed he had considered hanging up his boots in an emotional interview that saw him talk about how he was “molested” as a six-year-old and dealing drugs aged eight. The attacking midfielder also spoke about alcohol problems, sleeping-pill addiction and addressing his mental-health issues by spending six weeks in a rehab clinic – situations he kept away from many of his nearest and dearest. The football world has thrown its support behind Alli and he was warmly greeted at Tottenham on Saturday as he watched their 2-0 win against Manchester United, where the former Spur caught up with many of his former team-mates afterwards. “Dele was always close, as a friend with me,” the recently appointed Tottenham skipper said. “It was a really tough moment for him and obviously I’m always there to support him because he’s one of my closest friends. “Christian (Eriksen), as well today. Yeah, it’s just old team-mates but I think this relationship (with Dele) is very special. “He helped me a lot settling down in the UK when I was struggling. He was helping me a lot and is still a good friend of mine. “It’s always good to see him and any time if he needs anything, any second, I will be always there for him. I don’t want him to have tough times anymore.” Put to Son that it would be great if Alli could get his career back on track, he said: “We will always support him. “Obviously it’s up to him now because he has to recover well, get fit and play well because his quality is not in doubt because he has been showing in the Premier League what he can do. “Look, I’m always supporting him, like a member of family.” Read More Charity boss speaks out over ‘traumatic’ encounter with royal aide Ukraine war’s heaviest fight rages in east - follow live Pep Guardiola ‘amazed’ by Manchester City hunger at start of new season Mauricio Pochettino confident of rapid Chelsea improvement after West Ham defeat Zharnel Hughes inspired to historic Budapest bronze by Olympic heartbreak

Father who discovered Rachel Morin’s body speaks out: ‘I had a feeling about those tunnels’
The Maryland man who found the body of 37-year-old Rachel Morin said “he had a feeling” about the tunnels where she was found dead off the Ma and Pa Trail. Michael Gabriszeski, 49, told local news outlet WMAR-2 News that he joined the search for Morin after hearing about her disappearance from his daughter who was friends with Morin. Morin, a mother of five, went missing on Saturday after going for a jog on the trail. The following day, her body was located off the trail by Mr Gabriszeski. Mr Gabriszeski said he told police to search tunnels that exist around the Ma and Pa Trail because he had a bad feeling about them. “I kept telling them to search the tunnels because I had a feeling about those tunnels,” Mr Gabriszeski said. “I walked forward to search the one tunnel, and they searched the one, and that’s where they found her.” Mr Gabriszeski reported Morin’s body to the police around 1.30pm on Sunday. The Bel Air mother was found in a tunnel off of a trail. Morin initially left her home around 6pm on Saturday to go for a jog. When she failed to return five hours later, her boyfriend called the police to report her missing. An extensive search was conducted with authorities searching the trail and surrounding areas. The Harford County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet disclosed Morin’s manner of death but authorities in the Sheriff’s Office say foul play is suspected. A homicide investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information pertaining to Morin or with photos and videos taken the day of her disappearance should contact the Harford County Sheriff’s Office. Mr Gabriszeski said he hopes locating Morin’s body can result in a “a final resting place” so “that door can be finally closed” for the Morin family. “[I hope] they can get the investigation on and, hopefully, catch the person who did this trifling act,” Mr Gabriszeski said. He added that whoever is responsible for Morin’s death should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Bel Air is a community of roughly 10,000 people and has a low crime rate. Harford County sheriff Jeffery Gahler said the death of Morin has shocked the county. “We are a county that enjoys very low crime,” Mr Gahler told Fox News Digital. ”Our community is rightly very concerned,” Mr Gahler said. Authorities have no suspects at the moment and said it could be anyone who committed a random act of violence to a more planned attack or somebody that Morin knew. China is digging one of the deepest ever holes and might find signs of life
China have embarked on an enormous project: to dig the biggest hole in the country. The planned 10,000 metre hole will aim to pierce through ten layers of rock and could even end up finding signs of life as suggested by discoveries in past boreholes. And the objective? To reach rocks and minerals that could date back to around 145 million years ago - or the Cretaceous period. Findings from the mission may help alert China to environmental hazards such as volcanoes and earthquakes, whilst also identifying potentially valuable minerals lurking below. Past expeditions have also unearthed signs of life - with one project discovering signs of life under the surface. Don't worry, it wasn't subterranean humans or any other horror movie tropes. That borehole unearthed plankton 4 miles below the surface. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter That project won't be surpassed by this new - admittedly massive - attempt. The deepest ever dug - the one that discovered the plankton - was in Russia. The Kola Superdeep Borehole - just a really big hole in the ground - ended up reaching over 11,000 meters below sea level after being started by Soviet scientists in 1970. They had to abandon the project after hitting extremely high temperatures that they weren't expecting. Interesting. The Chinese project isn't going to be easy. It's not as simple as digging straight down into the Earth's crust and hoping for the best. It's also extremely costly and time-consuming. “The construction difficulty of the drilling project can be compared to a big truck driving on two thin steel cables,” Sun Jinsheng, an academic from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, told news agency Xinhua. So yeah, they'll need more than a JCB for this. Have your say in our news democracy. Click the upvote icon at the top of the page to help raise this article through the indy100 rankings.
