Pamela Anderson reveals why she plans to sell ‘all’ her old clothes – including iconic Baywatch swimsuit
Pamela Anderson reveals why she plans to sell ‘all’ her old clothes – including iconic Baywatch swimsuit
Pamela Anderson is turning the page on her old life in a big way. Speaking to People, the 56-year-old actress revealed she has plans to sell her entire wardrobe full of fashion archives, including her most sought-after piece: her Baywatch swimsuit. Her desire to clear out her closet stems from an intent to “make room” for a “new life”. “I don’t like to waste. Better to clear my mind, clear my closet. Make room for this new life,” she explained. “I can’t wait to see others enjoy these pieces.” Anderson continued: “My style has undoubtedly changed over the years, and it thrills me to think others will find the joy I did. There’s no reason to hang on to it. These memories are made to share.” As of now, she’s not announced the date of her closet sale but has expressed a will to dispose “truly all of it” in a “thoughtful, sentimental way” online. While imagining the 90s icon breaking up with her renowned looks that irrevocably shaped beauty and style fads is difficult, this isn’t the first time Anderson has mentioned leaving her old aesthetic in the past. Recently, the Borat star has been substituting heavy eye makeup with a light underpainting to enhance her natural facial features following the death of her former makeup artist, Alexis Vogel, in 2019. But, also to rebel against the now favoured exaggerated beauty features. In conversation with Elle, Anderson noted of Vogel: “She was the best. And since then, I just felt, without Alexis, it’s just better for me not to wear makeup.” She continued: “I did notice that there were all these people doing big makeup looks, and it’s just like me to go against the grain and do the opposite.” Between bouncy blowouts, skinny brows, blue eyeshadow, and cropped clothing, Anderson was a driving factor in setting the fashion of the 90s and early 2000s. Being a model and on-screen star, her visibility was consuming, prompting her to become an icon of the time. Although her focus may have been more on her career, many were enamored by Anderson’s appearances behind the scenes, especially with her infamous beau Tommy Lee. The two were known to match their looks under the same rockstar, grunge tone. Anderson stuck to bodices and mini skirts while the famed Mötley Crüe member donned leather everything. Her love for corsets was honoured by many of Vivienne Westwood’s original designs. The designer, who recently passed away, often saw Anderson as a muse for her brand, like many other fashion enthusiasts. From sitting front row at Chanel and Balmain, to stunting on the Hugo Boss runway for their spring/summer 2023 fashion show in Miami, it’s safe to say Anderson’s face is rooted in the industry. However, the Playboy model couldn’t always credit herself for her iconic outfits, as she previously revealed a lot of her style creation was thought of by her partners. “There was a time in my life when everyone was doing everything for me - even my husbands were dressing me,” she noted in an opinion piece for The Guardian. “But for the first time in my life I don’t have an army of people making decisions for me. I can finally decide for myself.” In the same article, Anderson detailed her decision to no longer sport fur or leather as an animal rights activist and spokesperson for Peta. However, the Home Improvement actor told Elle she thought her old looks from the 90s were “wild and uninhibited”. “I don’t know if it was a defense mechanism or what. I just thought, ‘I’m going to have fun,” she proclaimed. Why are 'The Good Doctor' memes suddenly everywhere?
Why are 'The Good Doctor' memes suddenly everywhere?
Viral trends are nothing if not unpredictable, so we shouldn’t be surprised that a six-year-old hospital drama has suddenly been thrust into the limelight. The Good Doctor – which stars Feddie Highmore as an autistic medic with savant syndrome – has been running since 2017, but it’s taken until now for it to really catch the attention of social media. A scene from season two of the ABC series is taking the likes of TikTok and Twitter by storm. It shows our protagonist, Dr Shaun Murphy (Highmore), passionately shouting: “I am a surgeon!” And of course, the beauty of viral memes is their total separation from any context, enabling us to apply them to the scenario of our choice. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter But it’s still interesting to know the source of these snippets. In this case, Dr Murphy’s outburst comes from an episode titled ‘Breakdown’ in which he confronts his boss, the hospital’s chief of surgery, Dr Jackson Han. Earlier in the series, Han had relegated Murphy to lab work. But, after successfully saving the life of a patient, the younger doc wants his job back. After all, he is a surgeon. @hnjiaajuz14 #movie #foryou #riddit #fypシ #pyf Since going viral, the scene has undergone a series of extreme edits, featuring SpongeBob, laser eyes, and catchy remixes. And whilst Dr Han (played by Daniel Dae Kim), is basically the show’s heartless baddie, he’s also become the internet’s favourite heartthrob. Still, the show isn’t without its critics, with many condemning the simplistic portrayal of autism as a kind of adorably awkward superpower. Another clip that’s been doing the rounds, taken from a season one episode titled ‘She’, shows Murphy confounded while treating a trans patient. The implication that his ignorant tactlessness is a result of his autism hasn’t sat well with viewers, and was called out well before ‘The Good Doctor’ became a darling of the meme circuit. Still, most people are just enjoying the random beauty of the show’s sudden virality. Thanks to these mystifying algorithms, anything can blow up on your timeline: good (doctor) or bad. Maya Le Tissier ‘more hungry’ after missing out on England’s World Cup squad
Maya Le Tissier ‘more hungry’ after missing out on England’s World Cup squad
Maya Le Tissier has emphasised her determination to keep improving after returning to the England squad following the “bittersweet” experience of her summer. The 21-year-old Manchester United defender was part of the Lionesses’ preparations for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, but not their subsequent run to the final, having been named as one of two standby players that flew home as the tournament began. Two-cap Le Tissier, who says it was “devastating” to not make Sarina Wiegman’s World Cup 23, is now back as a member of the first squad selected since, for matches in the inaugural Women’s Nations League against Scotland on Friday and the Netherlands four days later. She said of her summer: “It was bittersweet. I loved Australia, loved being with the girls. I really enjoyed my experience out there, it’s such a cool country. “Just being a small part of the preparation going into the tournament has definitely made me more hungry to be selected for the next tournaments to come. “Obviously it was devastating when I got the call that I wasn’t selected in the 23, but there was nothing else I could really do apart from be as good as I could for the team and try to put myself in the best place I could, helping them prepare for the World Cup.” Asked how desperate she was to make the cut for Euro 2025 – England players also have the target of next summer’s Olympics with Great Britain, qualification for which can be secured via the Nations League – Le Tissier said: “(I’m) extremely desperate, but it’s in two years – there’s a lot that can happen in two years. “I just need to focus on playing football and getting better. I’m still young so I’ve got a lot of things to learn and improve on, so if I can do that, that’ll put me in the best place to be selected. “I’m just focusing on the present, doing well in these next two games with England and starting the Women’s Super League season (on October 1). “(I need to) just keep playing well and doing well for United, doing well when I’m here, and hopefully be a big part of the team in years to come. “I think I can look at the players and take a lot from them, and see how I can develop. “They’re European champions and they just got to a World Cup final. I’m very inspired by the rest of the team and I just have to perform, day in, day out, as well as I can and consistently. “I’ve still got a long way to go, so it’s exciting to see what happens in the future.” England kick off their Nations League Group A1 fixtures by playing the Scots at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light. Le Tissier said: “I think Scotland-England is a game everyone wants to be a part of. “They want to beat us, we want to beat them, and it’s going to be an exciting game, especially up north. They’re massive football fans up there. “I watched the men’s game the other day (a 3-1 win for England at Hampden Park) and it was a crazy atmosphere as well, so we’re really looking forward to the game. “They’ve got some good players but we’ll be focusing on ourselves and seeing what we can do to beat them.” After that contest, England then head to Utrecht for the Netherlands match.
