The moment McLaren failed with a ‘dummy’ pit-stop over shrewd Williams
Williams boss James Vowles was alert and sharp to McLaren’s amusing attempt at subterfuge during Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix. Alex Albon, who has been a revelation at Williams this year, was valiantly defending sixth position from McLaren’s Lando Norris, positioning his car perfectly to maintain his place in the order. Yet McLaren, desperate to pass Albon with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton rapidly chasing behind, tried something different: a ‘dummy’ pit-stop. “Box to overtake,” McLaren told Norris over the team radio, with the British driver responding: “Yeah I’m pushing confirm.” The papaya team even sent their mechanics into the pit-lane, looking as though they were going to bizarrely pit their driver. But Williams – and the experienced former Mercedes chief Vowles – were wily and shrewd to the situation, aware that McLaren were merely dummying in an attempt to try and force Williams to pit Albon. “Heard their dummy and saw their pit lane, I thought ‘if they want to stop they can stop, but I’m not!’” Vowles told Sky F1 afterwards. “From McLaren’s perspective and Mercedes’ and Alonso, just one foot wrong and all three would’ve got through. We were very concerned about them. “What saved us was our straight-line speed [today]. We were six or seven kph up on theirs, it was just enough that they couldn’t get through. “We make it look easy, at least Alex does. Alex did a sterling job. We don’t quite have that race-pace but we have a driver out there who can get his elbows out and fight for points. That’s what he did today, he did a sterling job. “Again not a foot wrong. Seventh is just reward, the car pace was slightly behind that but he shone relative to that.” Ultimately, neither Albon nor Norris could keep Hamilton behind, with the seven-time world champion finishing sixth. Albon finished seventh – for another impressive six points for Williams – while Norris came home a place behind in eighth. Max Verstappen won the race – a record-breaking 10th in a row – with Sergio Perez second and Carlos Sainz third. Candace Owens says that Lena the Plug is in 'slave relationship' with Adam 22
Candace Owens has joined the throng of critics of Adam22’s unorthodox marriage to Lena the Plug, branding their relationship one of “master and slave”. The right-wing commentator sat down for a three-hour discussion with Andrew Tate when they turned their attention to the now-notorious couple. For those who haven’t been following the saga, podcasters Adam22 (real name Adam Grandmaison) and Lena (real name Lena Nersesian) were thrust to viral stardom, after she filmed a sex scene with porn star Jason Luv. The X-rated encounter spawned a whole number of follow-up interviews, fall-outs, and conversations, including one with the king of toxic masculinity himself: Tate. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The self-styled “Top G” was introduced to the couple during a live episode of YouTuber Adin Ross’s eponymous show earlier this month. During their discussion, Ross asked the former kickboxer for his thoughts on the Lena-Luv liaison and Adam’s part in the whole thing. “All I can say is that I wouldn't personally do that, that's not something I would allow my woman to do,” he replied. After a lengthy debate about it all, Adam “extended an invite” to Tate, saying that if he were “ever interested in doing his first ever double-penetration scene”, he and Lena might be up for it. However, he then checked this with his wife and asked: “Would he be a suitable candidate?”, to which Lena replied: “No.” Adin Ross Introduces Adam22 & Lena The Plug To ANDREW TATE www.youtube.com Owens seized on the bizarre live-streamed meeting during her interview with Tate, condemning Adam’s treatment of his other half as “horrific”. “Don't allow them to delude you to believing that this is femininity,” the presenter fumed. “It's not femininity, Lena, to have your husband offer your body to another man on camera. That's the poisoning. “They teach women that this is sexual freedom, that this is sexual liberation,” she continued. “I looked at that and I saw a slave relationship – I saw a master offering his slave to another person because he was just so, ‘I just love Andrew Tate, would you like to sleep with my wife? I would be OK with that’. “That is horrific. That is not femininity. That is not masculinity.” Nodding, Tate chimed in: “I absolutely agree with you on that point. You're totally right there, and I think that's probably one of the most misogynistic things that have happened on the internet in recent times.” He went on to say that he found Adam’s behaviour “pretty disgusting”, pointing out: “He didn't ask her, he offered her.” Bigging up his own response to the situation, he said: “I felt sorry for her so I was very measured in my conversation with them. “I could tell she was nervous, she was swinging on the chair back and forth. She didn't want to be there, she felt extremely nervous and I think that only a coward would berate a very nervous, very scared woman.” He then laughed: “I think she expected me to go at her hard, maybe I'm getting soft in my old age." However, let there be no misunderstanding here: Tate is no champion of women’s rights and values. During their ‘Adin Live’ meeting, the influencer – who is currently under house arrest after being charged with human trafficking and rape – explained why he “wouldn’t let his woman” sleep with another man. “The reason I wouldn't ever do it is because I believe that a man and a woman have a connection between them, and I think that connection is solidified by sexual exclusivity from the female’s part,” he said. That’s right, “from the female’s part”. Still, Adam doesn’t seem phased by Tate’s criticism nor by Owens’s fierce criticism. Indeed, he even shared her slavery allusion on X (formerly Twitter) via his ‘No Jumper’ podcast account. All we can say is, none of this inspires confidence in the future of respect and equality. Man City linked with Declan Rice bid as treble winners look set for busy summer
Rumours linking Manchester City with West Ham’s Declan Rice gathered pace on Thursday as the treble winners remained the focus of considerable transfer speculation. Reports suggested City were poised to launch a bid for the highly-regarded England international, who is expected to leave the London Stadium this summer. Rice has already been the subject of interest from Arsenal, who have reportedly had two bids – the second worth up to £90million – rebuffed by the Hammers. City did not comment on the reports when contacted by the PA news agency. It is already shaping up to be a busy summer at the Etihad Stadium, with the club seemingly not standing still following their successes of last season. Captain Ilkay Gundogan looks set to leave City for Barcelona having apparently turned down a new contract. It is understood the Germany midfielder has been offered a three-year deal by the Spanish champions on more lucrative terms than those proposed by City. City were keen for the 32-year-old to stay but were unwilling to match Barca’s overtures. City had tabled a one-year deal with the option of a further 12 months. Given the player’s age, this was a pragmatic decision and Gundogan will depart with their blessing. He made 304 appearances in seven years at City and won 12 major trophies, culminating in this year’s treble triumph. As skipper he lifted the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League trophies. He also played a key role in the run-in, not least scoring both goals in the FA Cup final win over Manchester United – the first of which came in record fashion after just 13 seconds. City already have one midfield replacement in the pipeline having agreed an initial fee of £25million with Chelsea for Croatia international Mateo Kovacic. The final deal could be worth £30million if certain conditions are met. The 29-year-old, who joined Chelsea from Real Madrid in 2018, had been entering the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge. He would arrive at City as a four-time Champions League winner after three successes with Madrid and one at Chelsea. A deal for Rice, if pursued, would dwarf that. West Ham accepted after their recent Europa Conference League win that their 24-year-old captain was likely to move on before next season. They reportedly value him in the £100million bracket. He has one year remaining on his contract but the Hammers have an option to extend that by 12 months. There is also uncertainty over the future of three other senior City players in defenders Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo, and midfielder Bernardo Silva. All three have been linked with moves away.
