Lewis Hamilton crashes out after first-corner collision with George Russell
Lewis Hamilton is out of the Qatar Grand Prix after a dramatic collision with Mercedes team-mate George Russell at the very first corner of Sunday’s race. Hamilton, who started third, drove around the outside of his team-mate, one place higher on the grid, and pole-sitter Max Verstappen before making contact with Russell’s machine. Hamilton was sent into the gravel with the right-rear of his Mercedes flying off in the accident. Both Hamilton and Russell pointed the finger at one another. “Come on, what the hell,” yelled Russell. “That is two races in a row.” Russell was sent spinning round in the incident before limping back to the pits for repairs. But Hamilton’s race was over. “Yeah, I got taken out by team-mate,” said Hamilton, 38. Russell was back on the radio. “Sorry guys, I wasn’t even looking,” he added amid a flurry of expletives. “I was focused ahead and he came from nowhere. “F*** I am lost for words. Honestly. I have just seen the replays on the TV screen. I couldn’t do anything. Totally sandwiched. “F***, come on.” Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff is absent from this race – his second in a row – as he recovers from knee surgery. But the Austrian came on the intercom in a move to calm Russell, 25, down. “George, let’s race now, and get the best out of it,” he said. Bartender calls out customer asking for no ice thinking they'll get more alcohol
A bartender who seemingly rumbled one of her customers for trying to get more booze by asking for no ice in their drink – and called them out – has sparked fierce debate online. Jemima June bartends in Nashville, Tennessee, and posted a TikTok about the customer. So far, it’s got more than 1 million views. In the clip, the person is heard repeatedly asking for a tequila cranberry, with “no ice”. June responded: “Just cause you say no ice doesn't mean you're gonna get more alcohol.” “Double, that means you're gonna get more alcohol.” Some commenters said she was unnecessarily frosty, and even accused her of giving “side eye”. @jemimajune_ One person said: “OK but sometimes we just want more drink, not more alcohol, so we don't finish our mainly cup of ice in 5 seconds.” Another person said: “Lol when you literally just don't want your drink getting watery.” A third person added: “Lemme get no ice without the attitude.” But others were more supportive, pointing out that bartenders often get similar requests from people demanding more booze. One person said: “I'm a bartender in NY, where is the attitude in here exactly? She was nice.” Another person said: “He keeps repeating no ice to her and then when she hands him the cup showing him there is no ice he says are you sure. He was definitely trying to get more.” And one other added: “Us bartenders know exactly what no ice means. You knew instantly your face you're like okay no ice got it.” How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Sign up to our free indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Mark Kermode savages 'dumb' Exorcist: Believer in explosive 8 minute rant
The latest Exorcist film, Exorcist: Believer, has been savaged by Mark Kermode, who tore apart David Gordon-Green's film. Movie buffs probably should have known what was coming when Kermode of Kermode and Mayo's Take posted a selfie earlier this week with his head in his hands. When it came to offer up his thoughts on Believer, Kermode didn't require much push from co-host Simon Mayo. "You have eight minutes to talk about The Exorcist: Believer," offered Mayo, before Kermode immediately delivered. "The Exorcist: Believer would like us to see it as a 'requel' to The Exorcist from the makers of the [new] Halloween series (David Gordon-Green). It is better seen as a 'requel' by the makers of Pineapple Express and Your Highness, but it is less funny and indeed less scary than either of those films. It is not good," he said. Ouch. After explaining the plot points and kitschy throwbacks of the new film, Kermode then explains the madcap final act. "Everything then goes completely formulaic, heads get turned, vomit gets spewed, bodies get levitated - we move towards an Avengers finale in which everyone decides to have a go [at exorcism]. "Despite the absolute stupidity of it all, it is staggeringly dull. Roger Ebert reviewing Beyond The Door said 'it's all trash, but it's scary trash', this is just trash. It is not scary at all. There's a Turkish 'Exorcist' called 'Şeytan' which fundamentally understands The Exorcist better than this." Mark Kermode reviews The Exorcist: Believer - Kermode and Mayo's Take www.youtube.com As for the future of the newly established film series that Believer begins, which will mirror the Halloween 'requels' as a ready-planned trilogy, Kermode had thoughts. "It is apparently the beginning of a trilogy, after which we have Exorcist: Deciever, presumably followed by "Exorcist: Asleeper". It is a movie made by people who have seen the original, but have not seen the original. "It is dumb, dumb, boring. Bad as it could've been, and then some." Kermode's scathing review should come as no surprise - the Exorcist is his favourite film. "It works for me, and it works every time. Every time I see it, it looks a different film. I've seen it 200 times, I've taken it apart, it works," said the film reviewer and Exorcist fanatic in 2011. You can watch the latest review in full here.
