What is the new Password Game sweeping the internet – and how do you win?
Remember Wordle? Those were the days. Now, there’s another game in town: the Password Game. Developed by creative coder Neal Agarwal (AKA Neal Fun), the game was released on Tuesday, 27 June, but it already looks set to flood our social media feeds. Could it become the game of the summer in the same way Wordle did? You’ll need to know the rules first. Here’s how to play. How to play the Password Game It’s a relatively basic premise. You must create a unique password that satisfies a set of criteria laid out by the game. Simple enough? But here’s where it starts getting tricky: once you move past one of the criteria – called rules in the game – another one is added. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Mercifully, your password isn’t fixed, so you can change it as the game goes on, but it will need to satisfy all of the rules to win. Those rules ain’t getting any simpler though. Let’s just say the finished product is a little… complex. Struggling with rule 16? Us too One thing that makes the Password Game particularly difficult is that it brings in elements of other games. When you get to rule 16, for example, you’re asked to include the “best move in algebraic chess notation”. Now this is a tough one, because many people didn’t even know that chess notation existed before watching The Queen’s Gambit, let alone use it to solve a problem. This is what seems to have stumped many on social media so far, and a number of people appear to have given up at this point. If that’s you, never fear. We’ve got some pointers on how to beat this devilish game below. Password Game rule 16 tips and beyond Those flummoxed by rule 16 will be disappointed to know that it’s not even the halfway point. There are 35 rules for the Password Game. They begin with the usual prompts that you might get when making an actual password online – think adding special characters, numbers – but they grow more cryptic. If you don’t play chess, finding the best move might seem like an insurmountable challenge, let alone describing it with notation. But generally speaking, you should try to attack the opponent by placing their king in “check”, or by taking one of their pieces. Once you’ve done that, the notation is relatively simple. If a king moves to the g7 square, it would be Kg7. If a bishop went to e4, you’d write Be4. If you’re putting them in check, add the plus symbol (+), and if you think you’ve got a checkmate, add the hashtag (#). Nice work, genius. Here are a few more pointers For rule 5, where the digits in your password must add up to 25, you should use digits 1-9 only and don’t add signs. On rule 9, where the Roman numbers in your password should multiply to 35, the most common answer seems to be XXXV and I (35 x 1). And on rule 15, where the password must include a leap year, bear in mind that leap years are evenly divisible by four. So: 1996, 2000, 2004, 2020 and 2024. Have your say in our news democracy. Apple Watch update finally brings feature new buyers have been waiting for
Apple has finally released the headline feature of its new Watch. The Apple Watch Series 9 was launched last month, alongside new iPhones and other products. But Apple said that its top feature – the ability to navigate the Watch without touching it, by pressing your fingers together in a gesture Apple calls “Double Tap” – was not actually available. Apple said the feature would instead come later this year. And now with the latest software update numbered WatchOS 10.1, it has finally launched. The feature will also come to the Apple Watch Ultra 2. Apple says that older Watches that lack the latest chip do not have the processing power to accurately recognise the gesture, and so it will not be available on those devices. The new Double Tap feature is intended to be used when the user only has one hand free. Apple has pointed to the example of carrying a cup of coffee or walking a dog. To use it, the Watch’s owner taps their two fingers together to select whatever is on screen. The Watch’s sensors are able to detect that gesture – using the accelerometer, gyroscope, and optical heart sensor – and the software will register it as an input. That input allows users to take whatever action is displayed on screen, so long as it is in one of Apple’s apps. Pressing it will end a phone call, snooze an alarm, or replying to messages, for instance. Apple has not said whether future updates will bring the option to use the feature with third-party apps. But for now, users can control notifications from third-party apps but not the apps themselves. The feature is turned on by default but can be switched off in settings. It is automatically off in some apps, such as during workouts. French teenager dies after police car hits scooter near Paris
A 16-year-old boy lost his life after his scooter collided with a police vehicle near Paris. The teenager was taken to Beaujon Hospital in Clichy and was in a serious condition after the accident on Wednesday evening at Elancourt in Yvelines, local media reported. The boy, however, passed away in the evening. The teenager was not named by local media. At the time of the accident, another police car was trailing the teenager, authorities said. The scooter collided with the left side of one of the police vehicles. The Versailles prosecutor’s office confirmed that both police officers operating the vehicles involved were arrested on Wednesday evening. “My colleagues shot in the area, they saw him a second time, at that time he fled again. A little further he hit a second police vehicle on an intersection,” senior police official Tony Vallee was quoted as saying by BFMTV. Two separate investigations have been initiated, with law enforcement authorities saying the tragedy stemmed from the boy’s refusal to comply. An inquiry was initially launched for “involuntary injury”, but has been reclassified as a case of “manslaughter”, local media said. Additionally, a second investigation has been initiated for “refusal to comply” and assigned to the Yvelines departmental security. Several policemen were dispatched to Elancourt later during the day as a precautionary measure in case of potential incidents or disturbances. In late June, the death of 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk during a traffic stop in a Paris suburb ignited five days of riots and looting in the area. The shooting had occurred after the 17-year-old was gunned down in his car for failing to stop. He was then allegedly caught driving through a bus lane at rush hour. Nahel’s family claimed the officer “planned” the attack “in his head”. “They took my baby,” Nahel’s mother had said in a TikTok video. “He was still a child, he needed his mother. This morning he gave me a big kiss and told me he loved me. I told him be careful and I loved him.” Read More Britain’s Olympic success will be judged on athlete happiness – not just medals – at Paris 2024 King Charles set for royal first as state visit to France is rescheduled ‘Adventurous’ 93-year-old goes ‘out in style’ as ashes scattered by drone Cricket, breakdancing, 7 other sports still waiting for word on 2028 Los Angeles Olympic status BBC’s director of sport Barbara Slater to retire after 40 years at the broadcaster Interpol at 100: A mixed legacy of hunting fugitives and merging police data from 195 countries
