Brighton captain Lewis Dunk has signed a new three-year contract with the Premier League club. Academy graduate Dunk went past the 400-appearance mark during the 2022-23 season and helped the Seagulls qualify for the Europa League with an excellent sixth-placed finish. Dunk’s previous terms with Brighton were due to expire in two years’ time, but he has flourished under Roberto De Zerbi and will now be contracted to the club until 2026. De Zerbi said: “Long live the captain! “I’m really happy he has signed this new contract. It’s good news for Lewis and the club.” Centre-back Dunk repeatedly received praise from his manager for his commitment during the final weeks of the last season, after playing through the pain to help Brighton qualify for Europe. It subsequently meant the defender had to pull out of the England squad for their June qualifiers. Dunk made his debut for Brighton in 2010 and has been a key figure in their journey from Sky Bet League One through to the Championship and eventually the Premier League. The 31-year-old signed a five-year deal with the club in 2025, but these fresh terms will continue his association with his boyhood club. Gareth Southgate is set to name his England squad as his side prepare to conclude their Euro 2024 qualifying efforts. England take on Malta and North Macedonia in their final two Group C fixtures. Southgate’s team are yet to lose in their qualifying campaign and secured their place at next summer’s tournament with a 3-1 win against Italy in October. The manager has stressed, though, that he his intent on victory in these final two games to secure as high a seeding as possible ahead of the Euros draw at the start of December. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the squad announcement. When is England’s squad announced? Gareth Southgate will name his England squad at 2pm GMT on Thursday 9 November. When are England’s matches? Friday 17 November 2023, 7.45pm GMT, Wembley Stadium, London England vs Malta (Euro 2024 qualifier) Monday 20 November 2023, 7.45pm GMT, Tose Proeski Arena, Skopje North Macedonia vs England (Euro 2024 qualifier) How can I watch them? Scotland suffered their first Euro 2024 qualifying defeat with a 2-0 loss in Spain but qualification hopes remain alive. The Scots had won their first five Group A qualifiers including a 2-0 win over the Spanish at Hampden Park in March and needed to take something from the return game in Seville or Norway fail to beat Cyprus, to qualify on the night. In a stifling warm evening, the Scots survived some heavy first-half pressure to go in at the break goalless before Scott McTominay, who scored both goals against Spain in Glasgow, fired in a wonderful free-kick in the 59thminute only to see it ruled out after a VAR check for a Jack Hendry infringement. Alvaro Morata headed in after 73 minutes and substitute Oihan Sancet and Scotland defender Ryan Porteous clashed together for the second in the 86th minute and with Norway beating Cyprus, Steve Clarke’s men move on to the second October fixture. Scotland face France in a friendly in Lille next Tuesday but Spain face Norway two days earlier and if the Norwegians drop points, Scotland’s place in Germany will be secured while the Scots also have Georgia away and Norway at home in November. Christie did well to win a free-kick against Dani Carvajal near the byline on the left and the Tartan Army were in raptures when McTominay fired it high past Simon but after Dutch referee Serdar Gozubuyuk was sent to check his pitchside monitor, he ruled a Hendry foul on the keeper. Scotland were soon on the back foot again as Spain brought on Jesus Navas and Sancet and when Navas crossed from the right Morata skimmed a header past Gunn. It was another blow for Scotland who came right out their shell, substitute Che Adams, on for Dykes, stabbing a close-range shot at Simonwhile at the other end Porteous blocked a goal-bound shot from substitute Joselu before a mistake by Hickey allowed Joselu to square the ball andSancet and Porteous challenged with the ball ending in the net. A model has died just hours after undergoing a liposuction procedure. Luana Andrade was seen posing in a gym in tight-fitting black sportswear just hours earlier. The beaming 29-year-old was lying on an exercise mat taking a selfie. She wrote for her 490,000 Instagram followers on Monday (6 Oct): “At my favourite place.” But the influencer the following day on Tuesday (7 Oct) morning. Despite her slender figure, Andrade decided to undergo a liposuction procedure at a hospital in her home city on Monday (6 Oct) afternoon. In a statement, the hospital said she passed away of a “massive pulmonary embolism”, in São Paulo, Brazil. A São Luiz Hospital spokesperson said: “The surgery was interrupted and the patient underwent tests that revealed massive thrombosis. “She was transferred to the ICU where she underwent medication and hemodynamic treatment. “The liposuction procedure was carried out by a private surgeon and anaesthetist hired by the family.” The influencer was taking part in the Brazilian reality TV show ‘Power Couple’ with her boyfriend João Hadad at the time of her death. João said he was “broken” and living his “worst nightmare” following news of Luana’s death. He remembered his girlfriend as an "extraordinary" person who “captivated the world with her grace and elegance”. He said Luana was born and raised in São Paulo and had been living with him for around four months in Greater Vitória. One of her former colleagues, TV presenter Adriane Galisteu, said: “Oh my God, I can't believe it!. “My heart is torn apart. “My deepest condolences to family, friends and João Haddad.” An investigation into Luana’s death is ongoing.
