The long-serving captain, now manager of Burnley, announced he was leaving City after 11 successful years to take up the role of player-manager at Anderlecht. Consequently the defender was the star of the show as City celebrated the 2018/19 season’s historic domestic treble with an open-top bus parade through Manchester city centre. Speaking as the parade culminated with a stage show outside Manchester Cathedral, the Belgian said: “I’ve given everything I could for this club. I can’t tell you how proud of that I am. I have nothing left. I have given everything.” Kompany’s future had been the subject of speculation for some time but he realised the time was right to leave when he scored a spectacular winner against Leicester earlier that month. His long-range strike, in their penultimate game of the season, took City within one game of retaining their Premier League title. He said: “The moment that ball against Leicester went ‘top bins’ I knew I was done! I couldn’t do anything better. It felt right.” Kompany, who ended his speech with a mic drop, said: “Eleven years at this club, what a journey we’ve been on. We were always a great club without silverware but now we’ve got silverware and I’m really proud. “This group of players – we’ve given you something you deserved for a long time. Now this team is ready to achieve so much more.” Kompany won 10 major trophies during his time with City, culminating with the 2019 FA Cup final victory over Watford. He’s the biggest name in chess at the minute, and Hikaru Nakamura has responded to the cheating allegations against him by going on a crazy winning streak. Streamer and grandmaster Nakamura dismissed “garbage” claims that he had cheated recently after going on a 15-game winning streak and blowing away opponents. In case you missed it, chess grandmaster Vladimir Kramnik appeared to have accused Nakamura of cheating in a cryptic post after referencing a number of “interesting” statistics behind his incredible form. Magnus Carlsen had a little fun at his expense earlier this week, and didn’t seem to be taking the whole thing too seriously. Since then, Nakamura seems to have been galvanised by the accusations and he’s gone on to win a staggering 43 games in a row. It’s an impressive feat to say the least, and chess master Levy Rozman seemed to sum up the thoughts of the community by writing: “This is insane. Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura has just won 43 blitz chess games in a row, live on stream... he is clearly sending a message regarding the recent comments from Vladimir Kramnik.” The allegations have clearly inspired him to some of the best form of his chess career. Nakamura already hit back after grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi shared a screenshot of Kramnik’s post implying Nakamura had cheated. He hit back by writing on Twitter: “Vladimir appears to be referencing my record…is he really accusing me of cheating? Anne Hathaway fans have defended the Devil Wears Prada star after a viral video purported to show her skipping over Priyanka Chopra Jonas to greet Zendaya at Bulgari’s fashion event in Italy. Hathway, Zendaya, and Chopra Jonas all arrived at the Palazzo Ducale in Venice, Italy, on 16 May to celebrate the launch of Bulgari’s new jewellery collection. The three stars – who are also Bulgari ambassadors – posed for photos together, each wearing dazzling Bulgari necklaces. In a TikTok video shared by Harper’s Bazaar France, the Princess Diaries star is seen walking in front of photographers to greet the Euphoria actor. Chopra Jonas, who is standing beside Zendaya, watches and smiles as the two exchange cheek kisses. The three brand ambassadors appear to compliment each other’s stunning gowns before snapping pictures with Bulgari CEO, Jean-Christophe Babin. Despite the pleasantries, many viewers assumed Hathaway had snubbed Chopra Jonas in favour of Zendaya at the fashion event. As some people claimed Hathaway “ignored” the Citadel star, others chimed in to defend the Ocean’s 8 actor. “Why didn’t she greet Priyanka lol,” commented one TikTok user. “She totally ignored her,” another said. “Priyanka waited for her hug,” a third person wrote. This isn’t the first time fans have defended Anne Hathaway after she was accused of being “rude” on the red carpet. Earlier this month, a resurfaced interview showed the Ella Enchanted star declining a journalist’s inquiry about a conversation she had with Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. The interview, which took place at ELLE magazine’s Women in Hollywood event last October, came after Hathaway sat next to Wintour at the Michael Kors New York Fashion Week show.
