Watch live as authorities continue search in reservoir for Madeleine McCann
Watch live as Portuguese authorities search a reservoir near the area where British girl Madeleine McCann disappeared in 2007 for a third day. The prime suspect in the search, Christian Brueckner, is said to have visited the area “some days” after Madeleine’s disappearance, a source close to the investigation has revealed. Divers are also preparing to enter the reservoir in the Algarve again on Thursday (25 May). The Barragem do Arade is around 31 miles from the Praia da Luz resort where Maddy disappeared back in 2007. “We have indications that we could find evidence there. I don’t want to say what that is exactly, and I also don’t want to say where these indications came from,” Christian Wolters, the Braunschweig prosecutor, said of the search. Investigators believe the 45-year-old killed Madeleine, then aged three, after abducting her from a holiday apartment. Click here to sign up for our newsletters. Conor McGregor closes in on UFC return by re-entering Usada pool
Conor McGregor took another step towards returning to UFC by re-entering the United States Anti-Doping Agency’s (Usada) testing programme. The 35-year-old has not fought since July 2021 when he was beaten by Dustin Poirier for a second time and suffered a broken leg. He has been out of the Usada testing pool since, but the agency announced he has re-entered. It said in a statement: “We can confirm that Conor McGregor has re-entered the USADA testing pool as of Sunday, October 8, 2023. “We have been clear and firm with the UFC that there should be no exception given by the UFC for McGregor to fight until he has returned two negative tests and been in the pool for at least six months. “The rules also allow Usada to keep someone in the testing pool longer before competing based on their declarations upon entry in the pool and testing results.” “The Notorious” has been rumoured to fight Michael Chandler before the end of the year but that will not happen until April 2024 at the earliest due to Usada’s rules. Trump campaign spends $40m on legal fees as Georgia DA says 2020 case ‘ready to go’ – latest
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has said that the investigation into Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia is “ready to go” – in a hint suggesting a potential indictment could be imminent. “The work is accomplished,” she told WXIA over the weekend. “We’ve been working for two and half years. We’re ready to go.” DA Willis said that there will be people unhappy with the outcome of the probe and praised the actions of local officials who ramped up security around the courthouse in Georgia last week. The DA previously indicated that any charging decisions would likely come in August. Separately, an indictment may also come soon in DOJ special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into Mr Trump’s efforts to overturn the election and into the January 6 Capitol riot. This comes after Mr Smith’s office added additional charges against the former president in the case involving his handling of classified documents on leaving the White House. Last week, Mar-a-Lago worker Carlos Oliveira was charged in the case, becoming the third defendant. The property manager will appear in court on the charges on Monday.
