Twiglet the dachshund returned home after armed dognapping in Essex
Sausage dog Twiglet is safe and reunited with her owners, after a video of her being stolen from a family home in Essex was widely shared. Twiglet, a dachshund, was snatched by a thief who smashed a patio door. Police later released footage of the dog struggling to get away from the thief, who is thought to have sold her on. Jo Vindis, Twiglet’s owner, said she was “elated” that Twiglet was home on Thursday. “Without the video we probably would never have seen her again”. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter “Well, we do love our dogs, don’t we? I think it just resonated with everyone with a dog, or even without, just how someone from your family – just snatched out of your home – it’s just horrible.” The break-in happened at Vindis’ house in Catmere End in Essex. “Our neighbours were round the house within a few minutes of the alarm going off, but he'd already taken her at that point,” said Vindis. “It looks as though that’s what he was after. Nothing else was taken.” Posting on a lost dogs group on Facebook, the owners said: “We can’t thank everyone enough for all of the posts and reposts and noise that has meant that she most likely did become ‘too hot to handle’. “We are blown away by how amazing people have been and want to thank you all so, so much.” The 16-month-old pooch was returned to her family after “a tip-off that came thanks to all of the coverage”. “Someone contacted us and said they thought the dog they had bought was Twiglet, and that's sort of as much as we know, but the investigations are ongoing so we're hopeful that the person who took her will be caught,” Vindis said. Fortunately, the dog is back to being her normal self. Vindis added: “She doesn’t seem too traumatised by it all.” Essex Police said inquiries remained ongoing, with no arrests having been made. Premier League fixture list leaves six clubs fuming at away days
Premier League fixture list leaves six clubs fuming at away days
The Premier League announced its 2023/24 fixture list today and the schedule left many fans feel particularly disparaged by the arrangement. Supporters of six clubs in particular - Aston Villa, Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, West Ham, and Wolverhampton Wanderers - are feeling hard done-by after their teams were scheduled to play away from home on each of the opening weekend, Boxing Day and the final day of the season. Fans of these six clubs are disappointed enough to start the season away from home, with that frustration only rising that they will miss out on home days for any of the season’s three most iconic matchweeks. While anger is flowing all through fans of these six clubs, on the other end of the spectrum, six lucky clubs will feature at home during all three of these rounds. Arsenal, Brentford, Brighton, Burnley, Chelsea, and Sheffield United will all have the opportunity to play on home soil, hoping to reward their fans with outstanding performances at each end of the campaign. Aston Villa fans rushed to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction with the Premier League’s scheduling, with Villa Park set to miss out on the three big match days ahead of their first year in Europe since 2010 - with the fans left travelling for each of those occasions. Forest fans didn’t seem to hold back either, as this marked the second consecutive year that the Reds have been forced to play away on the three big match days. After a successful season which saw Fulham finish tenth in the Premier League, ahead of their close neighbours Chelsea, Craven Cottage will also miss out on any home days on gameweek 1, post-Christmas or the final round of fixtures. Fans of Wolves didn’t seem to hold their displeasure back from social media either as many fans showed their disappointment over the Premier League’s fixture list on Twitter. While fans are rarely pleased with scheduling decisions year after year, these six clubs can perhaps feel particularly justified in their displeasure with the latest schedule release.

Billy McKinlay relieved West Ham avoided upset against Lincoln
Billy McKinlay relieved West Ham avoided upset against Lincoln
West Ham assistant manager Billy McKinlay was pleased his much-changed side were able to come through a tough test at Lincoln in the Carabao Cup. The Premier League Hammers, who made 10 changes from their defeat at Liverpool on Sunday, were pushed hard by the League One Imps but battled to a 1-0 win. Only Tomas Soucek remained in the starting XI from the Anfield game and that proved vital as he scored the only goal in the 70th minute. “I thought we deserved the win, it was a tough night but we got through,” McKinlay said. “We caused our own problems a little bit and gave them encouragement. In the second half, it was a bit better and we had some good opportunities to create a bit more. “But we’re delighted to get through. “As the game goes on you’re always wary that one goal might be the one that wins the game, so we had to get it. “All in all we are happy and glad to be in the next round.” On making 10 changes, McKinlay added: “We have got a really strong squad, plenty of players are fighting for the shirt. “At the moment the boys who are playing in the Premier League probably have possession of that but that can change very quickly. “If you’re in the team and playing well you keep the shirt and that’s what we want to see.” Lincoln, who beat Sheffield United in the previous round, were eyeing another upset and things might have been different had Reeco Hackett buried a free header just before half-time. The Imps were not able to recreate a strong first-half performance but still bowed out with their heads held high. Boss Mark Kennedy said: “I thought it was a really good game of football from both teams. “It is fine margins in the end. I was really impressed with West Ham, I’m not going to say the best team lost but we definitely deserved something from the game. “We knew we had to be at our maximum and hope they’re not. “I thought everyone who stepped on to the pitch did themselves proud. “I’m incredibly proud, the players should be very proud of themselves. I thought everyone did themselves justice.”
