With a trio of indictments looming overhead, Donald Trump took time to assure his voters that he was focused on what really matters heading into 2024 — his shower's water pressure. During the keynote speech of a GOP dinner in South Carolina on Saturday, Mr Trump told the crowd that modern water pressures just weren't getting the job done. Though Mr Trump has proven in past speeches that he does not need segues — preferring instead to crash from topic to topic without regard for logic or causality — he did lead into his shower rant, sort of, by complaining about regulations. “You know I have this gorgeous head of hair – when I take a shower, I want water to pour down on me. When you go into these new homes with showers, the water drips down slowly, slowly,” Mr Trump told the diners. It is unclear where Mr Trump — whose two main domiciles are a luxury golf resort in Florida and a gilded skyscraper in Manhattan, both of which he owns — is experiencing these shower troubles. “You have suds, beautiful nice wonderful suds, a lot of money, Procter & Gamble, all that crap that they sell they say is good, probably costs ’em about two cents and they sell it for $10," Mr Trump said. "It takes you 10 minutes to wash your hair. You know what you do? You just stay in the shower about 10 times longer than you would have, it’s the same, you probably use more water. I broke all that up.” It's not the first time Mr Trump has complained about his bathroom activities being disrupted by water conservation efforts. In 2019 he made the telling-on-himself admission that Americans had to flush their toilets "10 times, 15 times, as opposed to once," blaming water regulating standards for his apparent need to flush a dozen times per use. “You turn on the faucet and you don’t get any water. They take a shower and water comes dripping out. Just dripping out, very quietly dripping out,” he said at the time. “People are flushing toilets 10 times, 15 times, as opposed to once.” The water issue was one of the few things Mr Trump did while in office that aligned with his early campaign promises; he directed the Department of Energy to ease up water conservation standards for showerheads. The former president may have changed the rules, but it didn't really change the way products were manufactured. Nearly all commercially available showerheads during his presidency adhered to the previous standards. Joe Biden reversed the measure following Mr Trump's presidency. Perhaps the most baffling element of Mr Trump's water gripes is his insistence that easing up regulations would actually save water. “[Americans] end up using more water. So [the] EPA is looking at that very strongly at my suggestion,” Mr Trump said in 2019. And later in 2019: “You go into a new building or a new house or a new home and they have standards only you don’t get water. You can’t wash your hands practically, there’s so little water comes out of the faucet. And the end result is you leave the faucet on and it takes you much longer to wash your hands,” Mr Trump said. He then told his supporters that his administration would be "looking at" the concept of "rain" and "opening that up." It is unclear what he was talking about, but here is what he said. “There may be some areas where we’ll go the other route – desert areas – but for the most part you have many states where they have so much water – it comes down, it’s called rain. They don’t know what to do with it,” he said, laughing at what presumably was a joke. “So we’re going to be looking at opening up that I believe. At least four people have been arrested after footage of a wild brawl in Montgomery, Alabama, went viral across social media. "There’s a possibility more will follow after the review of additional video," the police told The Independent. The incident occurred on August 5 near Montgomery Riverfront Park and was captured by several witnesses before being broken up by Alabama police. The alleged turn of events saw two men having an argument with a Black dock worker. Things soon escalated before many more people jumped in to seemingly defend the man. In one piece of footage, one woman claimed: "These white people jumped this black security guard at the Riverfront. The staff got off the boat and it turned into WWE Smackdown. I’m so proud of Montgomery." Another person shared a different angle of the brawl, writing: "I HATE when people jump people a majority of the time, & even more so when you want to fight or jump someone for doing their job. The footage prompted X users (formerly known as Twitter) to do what they do best: Memeify it, with the 'inventor' of the folding chair being the centre of memes across the net. "Warrants have been signed and justice will be served." Reed continued: "This was an unfortunate incident which never should have occurred. As our police department investigates these intolerable actions, we should not become desensitized to violence of any kind in our community. Imagine drinking 10 pints in a day. Achievable, for sure, but probably not advisable. Now, imagine drinking 10 pints a day for a week, a month, or even six months. The sheer size of the task – and the unrelenting, crashing hangovers – would soon catch up with you soon enough, and the impossibility of the challenge would dawn on you eventually. But not for Jon May, a 25-year-old pint slinger of the highest order, was not daunted by such a proposition. Jon has become one of the most talked-about-people on the internet after managing to sink a mind-boggling 2,000 pints in the space of just 200 days. I’m just a drunk on the internet,” he said, reflecting on his efforts. Discussing how the whole thing came about, the streamer and content creator was egged on by one of his viewers. Soon, he was pledging to do 2,000 pints in 200 days. “I was doing football content at the time. I made another video about football and all of the comments were asking for an update. In the end, I just completely changed the content to me drinking pints, essentially.” Miraculously, he achieved the feat – and it sounds like he did so pretty easily. Despite spending £8,000 on pints to manage it, he took it all in his stride. “I was drinking the same amount before. It was just normal life, and somehow I turned it into a job.” What sort of stress did it put on his body? “I put on about half a stone. I’ve got quite a fast metabolism,” he said. “Being 25, I am essentially in peak condition. You wouldn’t want to do it if you were any younger, I don’t think. But you wouldn’t want to do it in your 60s.” Half a stone really isn't much, we're sure you'll agree, and he did put some thought into his choice of drink as well as his routine throughout the week too. “Some days I’d start [drinking] at about 11. Other days I’d start at about 4. I do a lot of volunteering in a church, and I can’t be drinking while doing that. Then on Fridays or Saturdays if I was watching football I’d have about 15 to make up for the fact I’d had less during the week.” He added: “I did cider as well [as lager] because that contains slightly fewer calories. It was half cider and half lager, because it gets a bit sickly if you try and drink too much of one. It was a mixture of Cruzcampo, Madri and Thatchers. Thatchers Blood Orange was my favourite. I’d never had it before.” After finishing with the task, he’s decided to throw himself into another challenge – this time, focusing on something very different. “I’m going to cycle 2,000 miles, from Portsmouth to Land’s End, then Land’s End to John O’Groats, then back again to John O’Groats. So I’m going around the country twice,” he told us. The challenge was inspired after a social media exchange with the Hardest Geezer – who is currently running the entire length of Africa. “I literally thought of it two days ago,” Jon said. “The Hardest Geezer, when he quoted me and said something like ‘the next thing has to be something a little bit more worthwhile'. So I decided to do that. I’ll train for 200 days and then cycle 2,000 miles. I’ll do it for three charities.” As ever, it wouldn’t quite be his style if he didn’t stop for a pint or two along the way. “I’ll probably stop off at some pubs.
