Couple buy a four-storey Italian home for the price of a chocolate bar
Couple buy a four-storey Italian home for the price of a chocolate bar
A couple, who purchased an Italian a €1 property in Italy, have said "it changed everything" in their lives. Jeffrey Pfefferle and his partner Leon McNaught found out about the scheme back in 2019 – and two years later ended up buying two houses in Sicily for a combined total of £27,651. The pair opened up to CNN Travel about their decision, saying they "really fought for it from the start." "At Rome Airport, I went into panic mode when we missed the gate for the Palermo flight – luckily we were able to catch another plane later that same day," they said. Jeffrey continued: "It’s been gutted [by the previous owners] and our architect says it’s an easy fix, a blank canvas. "The electrics are fine, and the plumbing is done." They went on to discuss the "better quality of life" in the Mediterranean which for them, "values people above money." "A place that embraces a slower pace, giving more priority to the important things," they said. “We are surrounded by a community that have shown us extreme caring and kindness. "It’s a place that has taught us that time is our utmost prized possession and that time is meant for living, and living it to the fullest with those we love and care about.” It comes after another couple couldn't afford to buy a home in the UK – so they purchased an entire farm in Italy instead. The Le Marche farm was initially on the market for €200,000 (about £170,000), but the pair managed to negotiate the price down to €160,000 and bought it outright with their savings and £50,000 of loans. Rasmus Hojlund says ‘a matter of time’ until Erik ten Hag improves Man United
Rasmus Hojlund says ‘a matter of time’ until Erik ten Hag improves Man United
Rasmus Hojlund says Erik ten Hag retains the dressing room’s support as misfiring Manchester United look to kickstart their stumbling season. A promising first campaign under the Dutchman brought Carabao Cup glory and Champions League qualification but things have gone awry this term. United sit eighth in the Premier League, have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup and suffered their ninth defeat in 17 matches on Wednesday evening. The late 4-3 loss at Copenhagen damages their chances of reaching the Champions League knockout phase but Hojlund says the squad believe Ten Hag will turn things around. “A really good coach,” the 20-year-old summer signing said. “He cares about every single detail, and he helps me a lot, gives me a lot of confidence and supports me. “I think every player in the dressing room support him. I hope it is just a matter of time (before we will be successful). “The first 30 minutes today was some of the best football we have been playing this season.” Hojlund’s first-half brace had put United in control against his former club, only for Marcus Rashford’s debatable red card and two contentious goals to change the dynamics. We need a little luck at the moment. We miss the small things Rasmus Hojlund “Not so good,” the Denmark striker said of his emotions after the chastening 4-3 loss. “A special game for me. It was nice to score two goals. “But, having said that, it is a shame that we concede a red card because we were playing very well in the first 20-25 minutes.” Asked about the decisions that went against United on Wednesday, Hojlund said: “We need a little luck at the moment. We miss the small things.” Wednesday’s loss leaves the Red Devils bottom of Group A with a trip to Galatasaray and home clash against already-qualified Bayern Munich remaining. Premier League matters now take precedence as Ten Hag’s men look to build on their stoppage-time win at Fulham last weekend at home to Luton on Saturday. It is United’s final match before the international break and is set to see more Old Trafford protests against the Glazer family. Nothing has been finalised in terms of the club’s future direction nearly a year on from the controversial owners’ announcement of a strategic review. A potential full sale seems to have been put on ice, while Sir Jim Ratcliffe is understood to be closing in on a deal to purchase around 25 per cent of the club. The 1958 fan group are planning more protests against the Glazer family ahead of the Luton match as they call for the American owners to relinquish full control. After demonstrations were paused following the death of United great Sir Bobby Charlton, a protest is planned from 2pm at the North West Quadrant towards the back of the Stretford End. Steve Crompton, a spokesman for The 1958, said: “The fight remains in full force. “There was a natural impasse to reflect the sad passing of Sir Bobby but we will never give up until the greedy Glazers have been removed from our club in their entirety. “Let there be no doubt. The fight is not over. In many ways it’s only just begun.”

IShowSpeed confronts his father for viral ‘IShowMeat’ video
IShowSpeed confronts his father for viral ‘IShowMeat’ video
IShowSpeed has hit out at his dad after he sang about his “IShowMeat” wardrobe malfunction. The 18-year-old appeared on a TikTok Live stream, where he saw the video of his father singing about the incident. The YouTuber was live streaming to 24,000 fans when he inadvertently revealed his privates. Since then, footage of his dad saying about the viral hashtag “IShowMeat” has been widely circulated online – and given that his son has opened up about the impact the incident had taken on his mental health, it’s not surprising that he wasn’t impressed. IShowSpeed, real name Darren Jason Watkins Jr, decided to call up his father after seeing the clip and confront him on his behaviour. Speaking on the livestream, IShowSpeed said: “I'm calling my dad, there's no way! Chat, is this actually real, bro? Like, dead*ss, is this real, is this f***ing real? 'Cus I am about to dead*ss call my dad right now! I swear to god wallahi, I'm not trolling bro." He then questioned his father about the song he’d been filmed singing, which went: "I show the meat, to make you feel complete.” His father denied that he had been mocking his son with the song, and instead claiming that he’d been trying to take the heat off him. “I wasn't calling you that, I was calling myself that,” he said. “They're clipping out the wrong part, I was saying that 'I am...' I was trying to take the heat off you. I am looking out for you man." It comes after IShowSpeed returned to streaming and addressed the incident, saying: The streamer has since returned to the platform and addressed the "embarrassing moment," and how it's impacted him mentally. "These past days and hours, I've been suffering very mentally, genuinely," he told viewers. "At the end of the day, I'm still a human being." What time is the Europa League group stage draw today?
The Europa League is nearly upon us for the new 2023/24 season, with the group stage draw set to take place in Monaco on Friday. Four British sides will be in the hat: Liverpool and Brighton finished fifth and sixth respectively in the Premier League to qualify for the Europa League, while West Ham won the Europa Conference League to book their spot. Rangers finished runners-up in the Scottish Premiership to reach the Champions League play-offs, but they lost to PSV Eindhoven. For the final time before the competition takes on the new Swiss-system format next season, 32 teams will be split into eight groups of four. Each group will contain one team from each of the four seeded pots, and clubs from the same national league will not be drawn together in the same group. The final will take place at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on 22 May 2024.
