Miley Cyrus fans are just discovering what her birth name was before she changed it
Miley Cyrus is a household name around the world as a pop star, but some people are just finding out that the singer had a completely different name when she was born. In a resurfaced clip from Entertainment Tonight (ET) back in 2008, the then 16-year-old mentioned how just changed her name and gave her thoughts on her original birth name too - and let's just say she wasn't a fan of it. "You've officially, legally changed your name, to what?" the reporter asked. "To Miley. What I've always been called, yeah," Cyrus replied. When asked if she had a middle name, Cyrus shared that it is Ray "just like her dad," Billy Ray Cyrus. The musician then didn't hold back her feelings about her previous birth name "Destiny Hope Cyrus," as she made a vomiting gesture, prompting laughter from the reporter. "Never again, it doesn't technically legally count!" she commented in jest. Meanwhile, in another old clip, Miley appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show with her father who revealed the reason behind Miley's birth name and the nickname she's now known as. "Before she was born you know I had this vision that her name should be - this is going to be long," he informed his daughter who didn't appear thrilled at the story. @unholyloz Replying to @L A Y the story behind mileys name is so precious ? #mileycyrus #miley #cyrus #fyp #viral #destinyhopecyrus "Destiny Hope Cyrus is her real name but from the time she was born she just smiled all the time, we started calling her Smiley and that evolved into Miley. He added that before Miley's birth he "felt it was her destiny to bring hope to the world." Since these clips have been making rounds recently on social media, some have shared their surprise at learning his new fact about Cyrus. One person wrote: "I never knew her real name was Destiny Hope." "I NEVER KNEW HER NAME WAS DESTINY," another person said. Someone else added: "Damn she’s got a lotta names. Destiny, Miley, Hannah," also referring to her Disney role as Hannah Montana. "You learn something new everyday," a fourth person commented. Photo of Sarah Huckabee Sanders beaming next to frowning kids goes viral as child labour laws rolled back
Children under the age of 16 no longer have to obtain permission to work in Arkansas. To mark the day that the child labour law rollback went into effect, social media users circulated a photo of Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders wearing a massive smile - with frowning children sitting beside her. The photo was taken on 8 March 2023 when Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed an education bill into law. But New York Times reporter Hannah Dreier resurfaced the photo on X – formerly known as Twitter – on Tuesday to highlight another bill that went into effect that day—the “Youth Hiring Act of 2023”—to try to illustrate how kids may be feeling about the new law. The post drew a wide range of reactions from social media users, from criticism to sarcastic comments. Orlando Sentinel reporter J.C. Carnahan wrote sarcastically, “The kids look enthused about it. What could go wrong?” “The kids in this photo look super stoked,” another said similarly, and yet another wrote, “kids look thrilled.” Another user remarked, “Talk about turn back the clock--good ol’ Huck-a-Buck just returned her state to the early 1900s. Way to go!!” One user went so far as to say, “They’d rather put little kids to work (because kids will be glad to get any amount of money) than raise the minimum wage.” Ms Sanders’ communications director spoke to NPR after the governor signed the bill into law in March: “The Governor believes protecting kids is most important, but this permit was an arbitrary burden on parents to get permission from the government for their child to get a job. She added, “All child labor laws that actually protect children still apply and we expect businesses to comply just as they are required to do now.” In 2022, the Department of Labor reported that there were 3,876 minors illegally employed; the highest figure in the past 10 years. A March report by the Economic Policy Institute said that 14 states have either introduced or passed bills that roll back child labour laws. Katharine McPhee reveals she and husband David Foster suffered a ‘horrible family tragedy’
Katharine McPhee has revealed that she and husband David Foster have suffered a “horrible family tragedy”. The singer, 39, shared a statement to Instagram on 11 August to announce that she’ll be missing the rest of her husband’s tour in Asia, where she’s been performing as a guest, due to a family emergency. Although she didn’t specify what the tragedy was, she wrote that she’ll be heading home to be with her loved ones, while implying that her husband will still be doing the shows this weekend. “Dearest Jakarta fans, it’s with heavy heart I announce I have to miss our final two shows of our Asian run,” she wrote. “David and I have had a horrible tragedy in our family and at least one of us needs to get back home to our family.” She concluded: “Please know how sorry I am and how much I wish to return someday and perform for you all. Love, Katharine.” Many friends and fans of the couple took to the comments of McPhee’s post to send her kind messages amid the family tragedy. “Sending my love and prayers for your family,” Masked Singer judge Nicole Scherzinger wrote, while Linda Thompson added: “Sending you and David love, & hoping that everything is okay.” “Sending you loads of love. I’m thinking of you guys,” Amanda Kloots also wrote. Foster, 73, is still set to play at the Sentul International Convention Centre in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 11 August and 12 August, according to his official website. He will then be on a hiatus from his tour, before returning to the stage on 1 November in Warren, Michigan. The Independent has contacted a representative for McPhee and Foster for comment. Foster and McPhee made their official debut as a couple in 2018, before officially tying the knot the next year. They welcomed their first child, Rennie, in February 2021. Since then, they have continued to post about their son on social media, hinting that he also has a musical side. In June, Foster shared a video on Instagram of Rennie playing the drums, alongside the caption: “PROGRESS!! Two years three months.” During an interview with Entertainment Tonight in October, Foster acknowledged that although his youngest child has developed an interest in drumming, it’s still soon to tell if he’ll become a musician like his parents. “You know when you look at somebody like Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, their kids are very talented... but they’re not tennis players, so we don’t know,” he said “He’s so young.” McPhee also agreed, adding: “It makes sense that he’d be musical, but we’re not really sure. He’s certainly obsessed with the drums! Or imaginary drums, for that matter.” Read More Katharine McPhee reveals whether she and David Foster want more children David Foster opens up about raising a toddler at age 73 Katharine McPhee defends husband David Foster after backlash over postpartum body comment Gemma Atkinson slams trolls who called her ‘fat’ just three weeks after giving birth Mother diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, anorexia and incurable cancer 7 ways for parents and carers to ease back-to-school worries
