Meghan Markle has just demolished a Netflix streaming record
Meghan Markle has just demolished a Netflix streaming record
Meghan Markle has just broken an unlikely Netflix record and no, it's not because people have been watching the docuseries about her and Prince Harry again. Before she was a member of the Royal Family, Markle was an actor on the hit legal show Suits which ran on the USA Network from 2011 to 2019, with Markle appearing in 108 of the 134 episodes of the show, where she played paralegal Rachel Zane. Despite the show ending nearly four years ago, it has experienced a sudden resurgence in popularity thanks to it now being available in its entirety on Netflix. In fact, the show has become so popular on the platform that it has smashed the viewing records for an acquired show having been streamed for more than 3.1 billion minutes in a week. The previous show to hold this record was Manifest which had managed just 2.5 billion minutes in a week. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Suits was added to Netflix on June 17th, making it the first time ever the show has been available on there but it has previously been available in other countries including the United Kingdom. According to Nielsen's streaming data, this marks a 36 percent increase in viewership from the previous week. Deadline adds that Nielsen believes that this will only increase as 75 per cent of those viewing figures are from just the first three seasons of the nine season show. Markle left the show in 2017 following her engagement to Prince Harry. In a statement, the future Duchess of Sussex said: "From all of us at USA Network and Universal Cable Productions, we want to send our most heartfelt congratulations to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on their engagement. "Meghan has been a member of our family for seven years and it has been a joy to work with her. We want to thank her for her undeniable passion and dedication to Suits, and we wish her the very best." Have your say in our news democracy. Kim Kardashian being named as 'man of the year' branded 'ridiculous' by confused fans
Kim Kardashian is GQ's 'Man of the Year' cover star for 2023, but some fans have been left confused over the decision. Each year the magazine selected individuals to receive awards at its highly anticipated awards night. This year Priscilla actor Jacob Elordi and fashion designer Tom Ford are part of those being honoured. Another honouree is Kim Kardashian, and fans are divided after the announcement. In her cover photo, the Skims founder is wearing an 80s-esque suit whilst eating a bag of Cheetos. Many seemingly have an issue with Kim being the cover star for the 2023 Men of the Year issue. "Kim Kardashian is your Man of the Year??? Be serious for a damn second", wrote one user on Twitter/X. "When you didn't understand the assignment", wrote another. "I'm sorry but did you just say 'man' ????? That is a [woman]." A third added: Some appeared to be quite angry over the decision. With one user arguing to was a "dunking on men" and that they will "never purchase Skims." However, many loved the photoshoot and spoke about how Kim's launch of Skims Men and the brand's partnership with the NBA were "the biggest disruptors of the mens garment industry this year." And is likely the main reason behind her gracing the cover of GQ. "Everyday I find a new reason why Kim Kardashian is really that girl... this woman does everything", wrote another fan. It seems like the Kardashians are getting bigger every year, who knows what award Kim will win next. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Lori Vallow trial - live: Chad Daybell and ‘cult mom’ texted about making children ‘scream’ from pain
The trial of “doomsday cult mom” Lori Vallow continues for another week at the Ada County Courthouse in Boise, Idaho, where the mother-of-three is accused of killing her two youngest children and her new husband Chad Daybell’s first wife. The 49-year-old is charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy, and grand theft over the deaths of her daughter Tylee Ryan, 16, son Joshua “JJ” Vallow, 7, and Mr Daybell’s wife Tammy, 49. Tylee and JJ were last seen alive in September 2019. In June 2020, their remains were found buried on the Daybell property. Tammy died one month after their disappearance in October 2019. Friday’s testimony included a detailed look at text messages between Ms Vallow and Mr Daybell that spanned their affair, referred to their spouses and children as “obstacles”, and grew increasingly romantic following her husband’s death as she ignored his son’s pleas for more information. On Monday even more texts were shown in court as well as the last videos of the two children seen alive which were found on Ms Vallow’s iCloud account. Meanwhile, the court is eyeing June 2024 as a possible start date for Mr Daybell’s trial.
