Before being called up by Sarina Wiegman for the Lionesses squad to take part in the Arnold Clark Cup earlier this year, defensive midfielder Laura Coombs had not played for her country since October 2015. The manager was clearly persuaded to bring Coombs in from the international wilderness by her exceptional performances for Manchester City this season, watching her anchor a midfield that had seemingly been significantly weakened by the sales of Keira Walsh, Georgia Stanway and Caroline Weir the previous summer. The oldest member of the 23-strong England World Cup squad at a stately 32, Coombs has a reputation among her teammates as a grafter who will bring plenty of experience to a youthful side, even though her time on the world stage has been somewhat limited thus far. Originally from Gravesend in Kent, Coombs came through first the Charlton Athletic and then the Arsenal youth academies, breaking into the Gunners’ first team in 2007 aged 16 before being loaned out to Nottingham Forest and Los Angeles Strikers before finally being sold to Chelsea in 2011. There she played 52 times over six years and won the Women’s Super League and FA Cup in 2015 but was again loaned out to Barnet, the Strikers and eventually Liverpool, who made that deal permanent in 2017. A regular for the Reds for two seasons, she moved to City in 2019 and won the FA Cup in 2020 and league cup in 2021 before truly excelling as a starter this season. Birmingham funnyman Joe Lycett is now styling his way into the podcast industry, as he’s announced an audio series called Turdcast “all about toilet habits” carried out by famous celebrities, because of course he has. Lycett had previously ‘floated’ – sorry - the idea of a podcast in his stand-up (he tells indy100 it might have been mentioned during an episode of his Channel 4 chat show, Late Night Lycett), but on Friday he announced the series he has “dreamed about” is now very much a real thing. The podcast’s description on Spotify reads: “Joe has always been fascinated by the great leveller that is going to the toilet. From King Charles to Gary Barlow, we all need to jump to do a dump, flee to do a wee or grit to do a… well, you know – literally nobody is too hot to squat. “From bog standards to demon dumps, we all have a toilet story to tell and you’ll now get to hear them all in the number one (or number two) podcast from Mummy. Turdcast will reveal the side (underside?) of your favourite celebrities we don’t get to hear enough about, be it because of their shyness, modesty or downright self-disgust.” Lycett goes further in the trailer introducing the podcast, saying: “Famous people are just like you, and just like you, they sometimes find themselves experiencing a blissful quarter of an hour with a novel and a multipack of Cushelle, or flooring it down the M6 in a race against time to find a Welcome Break cubicle. “Let’s face it, most podcasts are celebrities talking s***, this is the one that makes it official.” Well, he’s not wrong. He’s even revealed his first guest as being none other than footballer turned Match of the Day host Gary Lineker, confirming the presenter tells the full story about “the infamous 1990 World Cup where he s*** himself on the pitch in front of millions of people”. Lovely. And the news is already making a splash (sorry again) with his followers, with BBC Radio 1 presenter Greg James simply writing “f*** sake” and former EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy commenting “yay”. One fan even suggested the alternative title of “Diarrhoea of a CEO”, in reference to the podcast helmed by Dragon’s Den entrepreneur Steven Bartlett. And Victorian Plumbing has offered to sponsor the podcast, because who else would be best placed to do it? When asked who his dream guest would be for the podcast when it comes to talking about all things poo, Lycett told indy100: “To be fair Lineker IS the dream guest. We’ve peaked! “And maybe Dr Giulia Enders who wrote ‘Gut’.” It's not the first time that Lycett has dabbled in toilet humour, as he created a Brexit urinal last year to "celebrate the success" of the controversial vote, and said the phrase "I've got a smelly bum bum" during a House of Lords evidence session. Turdcast’s first episode will be released at 9am next Friday (November 24), and comes just weeks after Lycett went viral for responding to Suella Braverman’s comments on homelessness by sharing a photo of potpourri and raising more than £50,000 for the charity Crisis. A hat-trick from Nicolas Jackson helped Blues head coach Pochettino enjoy a successful return to his former club, but only after a pulsating contest with two red cards – for Spurs defenders Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie – and five disallowed goals. Emmanuel Adebayor added a third for the hosts before Darren Bent pulled one back. When Robin van Persie restored Arsenal’s two-goal cushion it had looked all over, but Harry Redknapp’s men showed a new resilience and Jermaine Jenas’ late strike gave them hope before Aaron Lennon equalised at the death. Liverpool 4 Newcastle 3 (April 1996) Sure to feature on everyone’s classic list, this was the game which saw Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan slump over the front of the dugout as his side’s title chances went up in smoke. Liverpool came back from 2-0 down to level, only to see Faustino Asprilla make it 3-2 seconds later. Stan Collymore soon levelled and then won it two minutes into added time, with Tyler again taking over with his line of “Collymore closing in”. Newcastle 4 Arsenal 4 (February 2011) The game that demonstrated why supporters should never leave early. When Theo Walcott scored for Arsenal 44 seconds into this game it set the tone for a blistering period of away play, with Johan Djourou and Van Persie, who netted twice, putting Arsenal 4-0 up. However, the game turned as Abou Diaby saw red for Arsenal and Newcastle mounted a stellar comeback. Two penalties from Joey Barton and a Leon Best goal gave them a foothold, but they still needed a brilliant 87th-minute volley from Cheick Tiote to get a point. Norwich 4 Liverpool 5 (January 2016) Reds boss Jurgen Klopp lost his glasses amid wild celebrations on the touchline after Adam Lallana’s last-minute strike gave Liverpool an astonishing first Premier League win of 2016. Klopp’s men had trailed 3-1 with under 30 minutes to go, then led 4-3 before Sebastien Bassong’s stoppage-time goal levelled matters. But there was still time for substitute Lallana to mis-hit a shot into the ground and secure a 5-4 victory. Tottenham 4 Arsenal 5 (November 2004) Four years before the 4-4 thriller at the Emirates, White Hart Lane hosted a similarly high-scoring affair between the two local rivals. The home side took the lead through Noureddine Naybet, but Arsenal equalised through Thierry Henry and then went 3-1 ahead thanks to Lauren, who converted a penalty won by Freddie Ljungberg, and Patrick Vieira. Jermain Defoe pulled one back almost immediately before Ljungberg and Ledley King traded goals and, although Robert Pires added Arsenal’s fifth nine minutes from time, Freddie Kanoute’s goal made for a frantic finish. West Ham 5 Bradford 4 (February 2000) West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop suffered a broken leg just minutes into the game to hand a debut to 18-year-old Stephen Bywater, who conceded four goals but still ended up on the winning side. The comeback from 4-2 down started with 25 minutes left when Frank Lampard and Paolo Di Canio argued over who would take a penalty, Di Canio eventually winning the tussle and converting from the spot. Joe Cole soon equalised and Lampard scored the winner from the edge of the box with seven minutes remaining.
