Mikel Arteta praises ‘really convincing’ Arsenal after Champions League rout
Mikel Arteta praises ‘really convincing’ Arsenal after Champions League rout
Mikel Arteta admitted it was a “genuine dream” watching Arsenal’s dominant 6-0 victory over Lens at the Emirates Stadium which saw them qualify for the Champions League last 16. The Gunners topped Group B with a game to spare after they battered their French opponents with six different goalscorers. Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard struck in the first half before Jorginho added their sixth from the penalty spot late on. Arsenal boss Arteta talked up his team’s determination which secured the club’s 100th Champions League victory. “It was a genuine dream,” Arteta said. “We had a chance to qualify today and we’ve done it in a really convincing way against a really good side. The team from the beginning showed a lot of aggression and determination to go for the game. “It’s great we’re able to win in this way and we showed at home not to concede any goals and score a lot which is a positive factor. The players need to believe we can do that against big opponents.” The Spaniard noted that qualification with a game to spare allows him to rotate in Arsenal’s final group fixture against PSV Eindhoven on December 12. Arteta added: “Every time we play a football match we’ll prepare in the best way but it will give us some room now certainly in relation to the state of the squad by being able to use certain players more or less.” Havertz scored his second in as many games after the German netted a dramatic late winner in Saturday’s 1-0 Premier League victory at Brentford. The attacker’s influence in recent games has impressed Arteta after a difficult start to life in north London since his reported £65million move from Chelsea in the summer. “Kai again scored two goals in two games and that’s really good for the confidence of the player,” he added. “He’s scoring goals, playing well, participating in wins. Those are positive attributes and you can see the reception of his team-mates and the crowd singing his name and being with him in every positive action. We had a chance to qualify today and we’ve done it in a really convincing way against a really good side. The team from the beginning showed a lot of aggression and determination to go for the game Mikel Arteta “These are good things that are going to help him show why he’s a tremendous player.” Declan Rice had another flawless game in midfield and Arteta applauded the England international’s consistency and decision-making. He said: “He was superb again today with the consistency and understanding of the game that he’s showing. “The decision-making all the time and the action and timing to win the ball back is so good.” Read More Arsenal show how Champions League should be done – Man Utd and Newcastle take note... Barcelona accidentally recreate classic meme during title winning celebrations
Barcelona accidentally recreate classic meme during title winning celebrations
Barcelona have created history after beating rivals Espanyol to reach their first La Liga title since 2019 – but most importantly, they recreated a classic during the celebrations. Barcelona beat their city rivals 4-2 and moments after the game saw Espanyol fans run onto the field, chasing off the players in chaotic scenes. The dramatic images played out after the club’s first La Liga win in four years - and one person who looked to be enjoying all of it was Joan Laporta. Laporta is the president of FC Barcelona and has been a key figure since the club were on the brink of financial ruin a few years back. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Now, footage has been revealed of him entering the team dressing room after the game and people have been pointing out that it’s a perfect recreation of one of the classic sporting memes. It’s a new take on the viral clip which sees basketball coach Roy William dancing in his team’s locker room - and the internet was here for it. The game itself saw Robert Lewandowski score twice, while Alejandro Balde and Jules Koundé also scored to secure the title with four rounds remaining and two years after Messi left amid the club’s financial struggles. Barcelona now has 27 league titles, eight fewer than Real Madrid. “It’s a magnificent feeling, a feeling of job well done,” Barcelona coach Xavi said. “This is important to give the club’s project some stability. The league title shows that things have been done the right way and that we have to stay on this path.” Have your say in our news democracy. A £4 hay fever tablet which ‘cures all symptoms’ is selling out
A £4 hay fever tablet which ‘cures all symptoms’ is selling out
A brand of over-the-counter hay fever tablets are quickly selling out after being hailed a “miracle cure” by social media users. Several videos from TikTok creators have gone viral in the past week after they discovered that Allevia, an antihistamine that retails for as little as £4, could relieve them of hay fever’s symptoms. The tablets, which claim to provide relief for 24 hours, were previously only available on prescription but were re-classified to general sales status by the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency in December 2021. The active ingredient in the tablets is fexofenadine hydrochloride, which works by blocking the effects of histamine in the body, subsequently reducing symptoms such as itching and sneezing. One TikTok user who was previously struggling with hay fever said all of her symptoms were “completely gone” after taking the tablet. Another shared an in-depth review on the effects of the tablets after a full day. After five hours of taking the medication, she said she hadn’t sneezed once. “This actually works. I’m impressed. My eyes are not bulging because they are itching. I feel good, I can enjoy the sun,” she said. She gave another update eight hours after taking the tablet, telling viewers that she had been out all day “around nature and plants” and still showed no symptoms. @tianarene1 it worked for me, but lmk your experience! They are also available in Boots and Superdrug. Due to high demand, at the time of writing they are sold out on the Boots, Asda and Tesco websites. People have also praised the effects of Allevia on Twitter. “Those that suffer from hay fever, stop using the Piriteze tablets and buy Allevia tablets – it will stop your sneezing or throat itching within seconds,” one person wrote. Another said: “Allevia has changed my life, what a drug.” “I have gone from having the worst hay fever you will ever see anyone have in your whole life, to feeling like I’ve never had it. Allevia, you have cured me,” a third person said. Side effects of Allevia include headaches, dizziness, nausea and drowsiness.
