Vogue editor Anna Wintour announces Vogue World 2023 is coming to London
It seems that London will finally be given its own version of New York City’s famed Met Gala with Vogue World 2023. On 31 May, Vogue announced the second annual Vogue World extravaganza will arrive in London on 14 September. The fashion and culture spectacular will feature appearances from Stormzy and Michaela Coel, as well as dramatic performances and a runway show to kick off the start of London Fashion Week. The one-evening event will pay tribute to British culture, as all ticket sales will go towards benefiting performing arts organisations throughout London – including the National Theatre, Royal Opera House and Rambert dance company. The show comes after the inaugural Vogue World took place in New York City’s Meatpacking District last year, where A-listers like Serena Williams and Lil Nas X gathered for a street fair and star-studded fashion show. This year’s Vogue World London will be centered around a theatrical production at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, conceived by English director and producer Stephen Daldry. As for the Vogue World 2023 fashion show, the London event will highlight autumn/winter 2023 collections from both emerging British designers and household names. “Our editors have spent so much time at fashion shows over the years, around the world, that we thought, ‘Why not put together one of our own – one that tells a story about the cultural moment we’re in, but through the lens of fashion?’” said Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour in a press release. “New York did that brilliantly well, and now we will be doing it again in London to show our support for the arts,” she continued. “The arts are under threat in the UK and Vogue World will be a timely reminder of how important they are, how vital a part of our lives, and how much they need our support.” Meanwhile, British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful added: “British Vogue has been championing fashion, culture, and the magical point where the two intersect for 107 years. Now, we’re bringing its pages to life with the help of industry-leading talents in order to support the full spectrum of the creative arts in London. I can’t wait for everyone to join us at Theatre Royal Drury Lane for a night to remember.” On Instagram, Vogue shared several promotional photos and videos for Vogue World 2023 featuring Naomi Campbell, Victoria Beckham, Sir Ian McKellan, and London’s mayor Sadiq Khan. Anna Wintour will oversee Vogue World 2023, much like she did at this year’s Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The annual fashion red carpet event also raises funds for the museum’s Costume Institute. This year’s Met Gala theme paid tribute to Wintour’s longtime friend and collaborator, Karl Lagerfeld. “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” aimed to “examine the life” of the late designer’s fashion legacy as celebrities were asked to arrive in their best Lagerfeld-inspired looks. Kim Kardashian, Nicole Kidman, Naomi Campbell, and Jennifer Lopez all walked the red carpet in line with the theme, which instructed guests “to wear an archival look from one of the labels Lagerfeld led”. Others took more creative liberties in their Met Gala looks, like Doja Cat and Jared Leto who were dressed as Lagerfeld’s beloved cat, Choupette. Tickets for Vogue World 2023 will go on sale to the general public on Friday 2 June at 10am BST/5am ET. The London event will also be livestreamed on all Vogue sites globally. Madeleine McCann news – latest: Prime suspect’s friend claims Scotland Yard ‘ignored crucial information’
A former friend of Christian Brueckner, the prime suspect in the ongoing Madeleine McCann case, has claimed that he revealed crucial information to Scotland Yard in 2008 but was ignored. In his first public interview, Helge Busching claimed that the jailed paedophile had told him “She didn’t scream” during a conversation about the missing three-year-old. He told German outlet Bild that he had contacted the special hotline to report Brueckner’s comments but failed to receive a response. After leaving prison in 2017 and hearing about the 10th anniversary of her disappearance, he made a second call. Brueckner, who is currently serving a prison sentence for raping a pensioner, was named as a prime suspect in 2020. Last month, a reservoir in Portugal was searched by police after sources claimed that Brueckner had described it as a “little slice of paradise” while living near the Praia de Luz resort. Scotland Yard has been contacted for comment. Read More Sixteen years and countless heartbreaks: Where are Madeleine McCann’s family now? ‘Boo if you’re a virgin’: Jake Paul mocks crowd after beating Nate Diaz
YouTube star Jake Paul mocked the Dallas crowd as he was loudly booed after beating UFC star Nate Diaz in their highly-anticipated crossover boxing fight. Diaz was far and away the crowd favourite in Texas as Paul – who happily played the role of villain in the lead-up to the fight – was booed on his way to the ring, faced audible chants of ‘f*** Jake Paul’ throughout the fight and then continued to be jeered after his hand was raised in victory. The 26-year-old hit back at the American Airlines Center crowd during his post-fight interview however, as he cupped his hand to his ear amid the boos and stopped mid-answer to mock the supporters by saying “boo if you’re a virgin” before laughing sarcastically to himself. “He's tough, he's real tough, that's what he's known for but tough in this sport doesn't work,” began Paul, in reference to his opponent. And as the boos heightened, he continued “Boo if you're a virgin. Ha. Haha.” Paul had largely dominated the fight against Diaz, who was fighting for the first time since leaving the UFC and although proved an awkward opponent on his boxing debut, lacked the power to really hurt the heavily-favoured YouTuber. Paul scored a knockdown in the fifth round of their 10-round contest with a vicious left hook but 38-year-old Diaz got back to his feet and made the final bell. However, the judges’ scorecards showed the relatively one-sided nature of the victory as the younger man prevailed 97-92, 98-91, 98-91. That moved his boxing record to 7-1 and, having gone 10 rounds for the first time in his young career, he was keen to take the plaudits while also crediting Diaz for his heart. “I knocked him down and won basically every round, I think he won one round,” continued Paul. “But he's a warrior – I had him hurt in the first round, he kept on coming. No one is taking that much damage. “All credit to my team and my conditioning, I went 10 rounds in my eighth fight – it's unheard of. I've only been boxing for three years and beat a UFC legend who I was watching this growing up.” Before this bout, Paul had knocked out MMA fighters Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley – the latter a former UFC champion – and beat UFC legend Anderson Silva on points, although his most recent fight was a first career defeat to Tommy Fury. In that long-awaited fight in Saudi Arabia, Fury – half-brother of world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson – was knocked down but emerged victorious on points. Diaz is a longtime favourite of MMA fans – as shown by the vocal support he received in Dallas – but achieved crossover fame when he submitted Conor McGregor in March 2016, five months before losing a narrow decision to the Irishman. Last September, Diaz won his final UFC fight by submitting Tony Ferguson. Although a rematch to avenge his loss to Fury would seem to be a possibility after the Brit completes his own scheduled bout with another YouTuber, KSI, in October, Paul insisted his focus was the offer of $10m he has put on the table to face Diaz once more, under MMA rules. “I want to run this back in MMA,” explained Paul. “10 million dollars, PFL, that's the offer, let's run this back in MMA. Make it fair. I won one, now it's your chance in your home territory. MMA. Let's do it.” While Diaz didn’t fully commit to a rematch, he did sound amenable to the possibility, saying: “We're gonna have to try to do it. But I had the single leg in the first and the choke in the ninth [referencing a couple of MMA moves he tried to slip into the fight], so I already won that battle!” Read More I hate to admit it, but it’s time to face facts – the Paul brothers are generational talents Jake Paul’s latest fight is not about Jake Paul The hidden side of Jake Paul Jake Paul’s latest fight is not about Jake Paul Nate Diaz reveals ‘secret’ that he and Jake Paul share Amanda Serrano announces surprise return to MMA with PFL

Ukrainian sniper ‘breaks world record after killing Russian soldier nearly 2.5 miles away’
A Ukrainian sniper claims to have broken the world record by killing a Russian soldier almost 2.5 miles away, with a custom rifle called ‘Lord of the Horizon’. The previous record was held by a Canadian special operations sniper at a distance of 2.2 miles in Iraq in 2017. In a press statement, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said: “The SBU sniper set a world record for a successful shot. “He hit a Russian soldier from an incredible distance. “SBU snipers are changing the rules of world sniping, demonstrating the ability to work effectively at fantastic distances.” Video footage apparently capturing the shot was shared on various Ukrainian media outlets, which appears to show the target falling several seconds after the sniper fires his weapon. The weapon used was developed and made by MAYAK and is said to fire bullets that travel faster than the speed of sound for nearly 10,000ft if used with the correct ammunition. The world record was once held by British sniper Craig Harrison, after he killed Taliban fighter in Afghanistan in 2009 from a distance of 1.54 miles. A separate record is held by another British sniper who killed six Taliban fighters with one shot after it triggered the suicide vest one of them was wearing. The world-record comes just a year after Ukraine almost broke the record when one of its snipers shot a Russian soldier from 1.7miles away, thought the be the world’s second-longest combat kill. Over the weekend, Ukrainian soldiers have been using high-speed jet skis to conduct attacks, with the country saying they will continue to use them as weapons to combat Putin’s troops in occupied Crimea.
